Imagine planning a relaxing getaway to Hot Springs, hoping to get an appointment for a bath at one of the legendary bathhouses, and after repeatedly calling and even visiting in person, you can but then you can't. This was our experience with the Quapaw bathhouse. We first tried to book online. Since I wanted to book both my husband and I, it was suggested that we call, so we did before our visit to Hot Springs. I expected to talk to a receptionist since we called in the afternoon during their regular business hours, but we got their voicemail. I left a message to please call us back so that we could book an appointment during our stay. After not receiving a call back after a day or two, we decided to visit in person once we got there. We waited in line at the Quapaw. I was excited because it looked so nice and relaxing inside. There were about 5 receptionists at a long counter, and after about 10 minutes one pulled us aside. We asked if there was any availability in the next couple of days while we were there. The receptionist looked iffy at first, then pulled up the information I had added when I tried to book online and told us she had a 2:30 open and blocked it off in their system for my husband and I. She was explaining to us who our masseuses would be, adding the kind of aromatherapy we liked, and that we needed to arrive ahead of time. As she went to swipe our credit card, she and another staff member started talking about our appointment. Apparently a staff member named J.J. overruled the time our receptionist blocked off for us seconds earlier and booked another couple that walked in behind us, but I guess J.J. was a faster typer? Maybe? We still don't know, because once she realized it was double booked we were told too bad, that's all they had, and nothing could be done about it. My husband and I looked at each other puzzled, like "what just happened"? So in essence, they booked us then canceled us. I even got a welcome email, then a cancellation email that I'm still scratching my head over. After pretty much saying "sorry, too bad" in front of the other people waiting in line, they all went back signing people in like we weren't even there. It was really awkward and not to mention a big disappointing let down. My husband and I left, stunned as to having an appointment, then not, not to mention the treatment after...and not really knowing what to do about it After talking about it, we decided to call to speak to someone about our experience, since maybe that was just a bad day. I've called, I've emailed, and I still haven't received anything back, not even an I'm sorry. My husband and I are on our way home, and we still haven't heard back from anyone at the Quapaw. I even waited to post this hoping we might. We got to do some really fun things in Hot Springs. The Quapaw experience or in a way "no" experience left us kind of down and not to mention kind of angry. Just so weird. I expected so much more than "sorry, bye", but that's exactly what it was. We really wanted to try a bathhouse to experience the old school vibe just to go back in time but darn the one that was recommended to us by several people was closed on Wednesday, so the golden age of bathing went down the proverbial drain and we had to settle for the one for the masses, four pools ranging in temperature from 95 to 105 that you share with another 75 or so people When they opened there were already 25 people ahead of us, was ok but not what I wanted since I had heard so much about the private and individual nature of the next door bathhouse but like I said they close on Wednesdays for maintenance, I was willing to pay the 115 that included a 20 minute massage and a private bathtub rather than the pool you share with so many If I go back to this National Park I would try the one next door even if it is three times more money read more

I visited hot springs and was looking for a bath house to enjoy the famous hot springs. I decided to go with Quapaw for several reasons. - for one low price you have access to all of their thermal pools. I think it was about $30 plus taxes for one adult admission to the public pool, no reservations needed. They have a total of 4 pools, one with a low temperature which they recommend you start off to get your body use to it. They have a medium heat and a hot heat pool. The 4th pool is a regular pool temperature that comes from a cold spring. Now you do have to wear proper swimsuit and rinse off before you jump in. - no appointment needed if you are doing the public pool, they stop admission to it 30 minutes before they close. Early in the morning you will see a line of people wrapped around the building waiting to get an appointment for a massage or a couples soak or something. I did not schedule any of those so I cannot speak on those. - The admission price comes with a locker where you can store your stuff in. Towels are included and you can stay there as long as you like. Other bath houses on the row charge slightly more for only a 25-30 minute soak. In the other bath houses if you purchase a private soak in a tub clothing is optional but like I mentioned before its only 30 min max. - once inside the pool area they do have water available for people to stay hydrated. They do not allow outside food or drinks here but they do have a cafe you can order light lunch and drinks. No phones are allowed here and I really appreciate that and noticed that people did follow these rules. - the staff was great and you could tell they really put in the work to keep the place running efficiently so big kudos to them - from what I seen, they do not have a gift shop where you can purchase swimsuits , so bring your own. They do require you to bring in slides or flipflops to wear inside. If you dont have one they have some for rent(?) maybe idk since I brought my own. -towards the end of the day the showers can get busy and the dressing room is a humid so its hard to get dressed comfortably. Some of the lockers were broken and it took me a while to find an available one. When I go back I will for sure visit them again and hopefully get one of the other spa treatments. read more

My friend and I didn't want to leave town without trying some of the hot springs water and this fit the bill. We were looking to soak for a few hours and relax. We came on a Sunday morning. It was right at opening and it was overcast and drizzling a little bit, so it felt great to get into the hot waters. There wasn't much of line to get in and we were able to use the waters for several hours. There was four different pools with four different temperatures and we tried them all. We spent the most time in the pool that was around 95 degrees. The other ones get hot, pretty fast. The service was great and the employees explained the process of using the pools. The lockers were easy to use and you have private showers for before and after using the pools. It was around $30 and well worth the money. read more

This is what everyone comes to Hot Springs for. A relaxing and enjoyable soak in the natural hot springs water. My wife and I signed up for a aromatherapy couples bath and we were fortunate because we came in last minute and luckily there was one opening available. I'd recommend booking in advance. We arrived around 15 minutes before our scheduled time and after checking in we were directed to a waiting room that has a small bar with drinks and snacks for purchase. At our appointed time there were attendants that came to show us to our bath. The baths are in private rooms and are very clean. When we were shown to our room the aromatherapy was added and the tub was filled with the hot springs water. The soak felt amazing, whishing I could sit in there all day. The water felt healing and with the aromatics it added an additional layer of relaxation. After our time was up we simply got out, dressed and could lounge in a waiting area until we were ready to leave. read more

I cannot recommend Quapaw, at all. Not because it wasn't a good experience, though. It's because we were unable to ever experience their services. During our 8 hour drive to Hot Springs, we called numerous times (over a dozen attempts) and were never able to speak with an actual person. Each time, it went to voice mail. Then, we would get a text message after each call, asking how they could be of assistance. Almost replied with "just answer your phone". But, finally responded about needing to make reservations. Never got a reply message & never got a call back after leaving a voice mail message. So, I will not waste my time with a business that obviously couldn't care less about earning my dollar. There are other options, in Hot Springs, that will get my money. Quapaw should be ashamed. read more

What a terrible experience! We couldn't check in at 10:30am (for 2pm massages) it was too soon. Came back at noon and we would have to wait behind 11 other walk-ins! Then at 1:30, when it says you MUST be checked in... we still had to wait! Do not expect to spend time before your scheduled appointment enjoying the pools- you won't. It seems they prefer walk-in hourly patrons for the "public pools" than folks who make appointments and spend money on spa services. What a shame. read more

One word of advice is if you are wanting special services of massages, facials, etc, be sure to book a few weeks in advance as there is nothing available closer to the date. The public baths are $30/person and include four different baths all with varying temperatures. The actual baths look quite nice, but for some reason do not feel as clean as you would quite like. They try to keep the number of people limited, but towards the end of the day it was feeling a little crowded. You can stay as long as you like at the public baths, but I am not sure many people stay much longer than an hour or so as you just go in and out of the pools and likely get warm/pruny/ready to leave. We loved our experience here. We booked the aromatherapy couples bath and spent some time in the thermal pool before. We liked the different temperatures of the thermal pools. Sitting underneath the waterfall feature was amazing. Definitely recommend. Lilly and the other bath attendant in the thermal area were so kind and helpful. I bought a last minute bathing suit for only $27! And was super pleased w that purchase lol Thermal bath is first come first serve. We went in the afternoon around three and didn't have any issues. I had walked in that morning to book a couples bath because I couldn't get anyone on the phone (my only small complaint) The couples bath was a nice experience. We both agreed that thermal pool + couples bath was a little exhausting? lol we were drained afterward, but in a good way. My husband went back the next day after our hike for another soak. This is a must do when in Hot Springs! The staff was very friendly and made you feel special. We got the private bath, Swedish massage, foot scrub and facials for couples. The only reason I marked them down a star is because of the amount of time we had to wait for each element. I wish they would transition you from the bath to the massage but we had to sit in a waiting room for about 40 minutes. We left feeling relaxed and pampered. read more

I had a issue with my shoulder that was causing me lots of pain and she worked on it for quite a while during the massage and it felt much better afterwards. The whole experience was amazing. There were 4 of us. We all opted for the co-ed pools. About $30 per person gains you access to the pools for as long as you want to stay. 4 pools with a varietiy of temperatures, from 98 to 104. There are wooden lounge chairs to sit on along the pools if you need a break and 2 cool showers to use if you desire. You start in the locker room where you leave everything except the bathing suit you are wearing, your towel and flip flops. The pools are easily accessible. There is a small cafe where you can get a sandwich, a drink, a fresh fruit smoothie and tables at the far end of the pools to eat. They offer other spa services as well, massages, foot scrubs, facials. It is clean, modern and very inviting. We all highly recommend. Two of our group had a spa package that included a Swedish massage, a foot scrub and a facial. They were very pleased with the service. It gets pretty warm so getting dressed in the same room is quite uncomfortable cause you just can't dry off. But the "cucumber water" and cool towel after is a nice touch. I went with my daughter and her boyfriend/partner and the facility was very clean and inviting. They offer four different pools of increasing temperature from about 98 degrees to 104 degrees. Staff and customers were very friendly and helpful. My daughter and partner totally loved it. I found that the baths were very good for my joints and muscles (I have chronic fibromyalgia and four joint replacements-both shoulders and both knees) but the pools were very hard for me to get out of. After spending 15-20 minutes in each pool I had to have assistance to get out of the third and fourth pools, and other bathers were extremely helpful. Installing ramps for people like me would make the experience much more enjoyable. read more

This spa is very difficult to work with and make appointments with. It's as if they don't want your business. I called 3 weeks ago and left a message, then sent an email that received no response, then called and left another message. I also called several times and no one ever picks up the phone, only allows you to leave messages. Over the course of 3 weeks I called around 5-6 times; left 2-3 messages and sent an email. FINALLY they get back to me today and say sorry we are booked when you would like to come. That's the reason I have tried to make an appointment for over 3 weeks! They acted like they couldn't care less when I told them about the difficulty getting a hold of them despite many efforts. Simply not a customer centric place by any stretch. Americans are form over function so you may over look this locale but you are in good hands. This area has a proud history of being a wellness spot over the centuries. Fast forward the current structures represent man's attempt to cement a time capsule of sorts of the once common institutional structure that provided natatorium like facilities (indoor swimming). And this building and its sister buildings are a part of the national register. Ownership and facilitation of the Quapaw space is leased by the Federal government and then privately operated. First Off: The limitations of leasing a historical structure confine and limit inclusion of form or familiar fenceposts to an individual in this century that this is indeed a place for wellness and not a throw back to Shelly Winters and Jack Nicholson movie, The Shinning nor One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. No nurse Crachett here. The spa functions well until it doesn't with a burgeoning crush of phone calls, voicemails that go to the sky with no communication loop closure, online booking does not exist. That being said, come anyway. You will be glad you did. This is a community space that allows locals at a discount to enjoy the public hot spring fed indoor pool. From a community standpoint and a thoughtful marketing strategy adding before opening hours with an option for water aerobics to support the community and increase space for wellness tourism would be a nice way to get community buy in & longevity of support. Three levels of experiences. The top floor hosts massage. The main lobby showcases the pools (staggered by water temperatures) and the basement floor is the facials space. All throughout the building are nooks and crannies of additional spa services such as make up, hair salon etc. There is a boutique as well if in case you forgot your bathing suit. I have been here before and previously had a great experience but sadly this was nothing compared to what I had before. Even though I was on time, I was rushed out of my bath. A service worker BANGED on the door and yelled at me saying she needed to clean the tub. My magnetic door never shut all the way and my tub was dirty. I felt too uncomfortable to do anything there. There was one girl who was nice but the other girl with short hair rushed me and obviously did NOT clean the tub. The streak was disgusting and the jets were full of scum. As soon as my bath host turned on the jets, hair and black clumps of debris were circling around the bath. This was BEFORE I got in. Last time I came, they offered robes and this time I was not even offered one so I felt super uncomfortable putting my winter cloths on immediately after a hot bath when I was supposed to be going into my ten minutes "cool down" period. It was our first time in Hot Springs, and we were still trying to get the vibe and figure out how the bath house system worked. Buckstaff had a sign that said walk ins welcome, but had a huge line. A couple of buildings down at Quapaw, was full of people but no line outside so we stopped in. The First Lady was polite and informed us that a reservation was needed and to go to the desk and make one. The women at the desk were not so nice. In fact, they were rude and dismissive. After I said we didn't have a reservation but would like make one, she said "could you" and then gestured with her hand for us to get out of the way "so I can deal with the people that DO have a reservation? We gave them all the space they needed after that. I will never go back and I'm making sure to tell everyone I know, about our experience.
