To whom this may concern, You should be aware that Allview Liquors in Ellicott City is advertising one price on the shelf of every item and charging a different amount at the register on every item. I spoke with the manager, Justin, and I spoke with his employee, Alex. Alex said "Americans are stupid. They don't read." Something along the lines of how people are not going to notice the difference between the shelf price and the register price. For example, I purchased 6 bottles of moscato wine. The shelf said each item was $7.99; however, when I got to the register, it came up as $8.23 per bottle. I explained to Alex how 25 cents per item per person would really add up and that it was deceitful. He said that they didn't want to pay the 3% credit card fee and that's why they were charging people extra, but this is unbeknownst to the customer. They have a 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch sticker on the door and by the cash registers, saying something along the lines of how the shelf price is the cash price. They very well know that people don't carry cash anymore. I asked repeatedly how do you know what you are paying before you pay for it? They would not answer the question. Eventually, I got the answer that it is 3% more, because they don't want to pay the credit card fee. They have one small line on their receipt about a cash price, but they also say "all sales are final. No returns." My understanding is that this might be illegal--advertising one price consistently over and over throughout your whole store, but charging another for every item at the register. read more

This is a great local liquor store. I mainly shop for tequila and bourbon. They have a great selection of both, including a number of excellent store picks. The staff is very knowledgeable and are a great resource if you are looking to try something new or are unsure how to differentiate between offerings. Will never come back to this particular liquor store. I stopped in to get some tequila silver for me and a friend. Headed towards the register, a female asked for my ID. So I gave them my ID, it should be noted I'm from out of town. Specifically, Dunwoody Georgia. So I have and gave them my Georgia ID. The female at the cash register looked At the front and the back of my ID for about 10 mins. Asked one of coworkers to take a look At my ID, which in my head implies that she thought it was fake, this rubbed me the wrong way because of how she went about it. You work at a liquor store and sell liquor, but don't know how to spot a real ID from a fake one!? read more

Greatest liquor store around! I found this place, tucked away behind the Dorsey Search Giant awhile back and love it. I haven't found a better price and better selection anywhere else in Columbia. Once I bought a box of bottled Sam Adams and discovered once I got home and opened the box and even opened a bottle for my husband that there was a broken one inside. I immediately went back and to my surprise they took the whole box and gave me a new one and told me not to worry about the one we had opened. I was blown away by their generous costumer service! They have won my business for a lifetime. In short: Great group of people working there. Great hours! Unbeatable selection (for the area, I'm sure there's other places with more but Allview is very close to me :D ) and fair prices. Keep up the good work guys. read more

After having grown up in Columbia and recently relocating here after 20 years away, I must say that Allview Liquors is a most happy familiar stop & shop and I'm pleased to be back in its neighbohood. In terms of location, it is set back from the main road a bit; however, it's but a mere mile from Route 108, 2 miles off of Route 29. I do take umbrage at the indication that there is "sketchy" clientele. Allview serves both suburbanite & ruralite alike (as well as the occasional "out-of-towner" who cannot be served on a Sunday in their neck of the woods.) The selection is varied, the layout is well-thought out, it is clean & brightly lit and the staff is always courteous and helpful. It also backs into Leelynn's, a quaint & cozy restaurant where you can find a great meal to accompany your adult beverages. read more

Finding this place was a happy accident aided by GPS (and you'll certainly want one to find it). We were bemoaning the blue laws keeping liquor stores from selling alcohol on Sundays in Carroll County. However, the third place we called was just over the border in Howard County - success! The clientele were a little sketchy, but the staff friendly. The selection was surprisingly good given the size - we found some unusual gems, like Limoncello Cream Liqueur. (Yum.) read more

Just went there and I enjoyed the visit. It is in a little hideaway area, but they seem to have everything you could ever need. The staff was incredibly nice and friendly, even going so far as to help carry my bottles out to the car for me and recommending trying some of the whiskey I bought with limeade during the summer. Open til 12 am weeknights and 2 am weekends, staff is friendly and helpful, selection is great, and I joined their email which lets me know what t.astings they have for the week and the sales they have going on.
