We were looking for "someone in our corner" to help prepare us for and guide us through what could be a very long and difficult induction. In the end, Lindsay failed to meet those basic expectations, and we had to ask her to leave our birth after only 2 hours of her being present. Lindsay was disorganized and stretched thin in our prenatal meetings. The childbirth class she offered was primarily a Q&A session, which was somewhat helpful. However, the last 45 minutes were spent with Lindsay giving an anti-vaccine lecture. When she arrived at our birth, Lindsay was on her phone with another client. She then had to run back to her car for something before she ever checked in on me. She was very hands-off and said little to nothing the entire time. We finally asked her to leave when I noticed she was in the corner reading a book after I received an epidural. Before hiring Lindsay to support your birth, you should know that she will site inaccurate, unscientific information about vaccines for both you and your child, she will provide information encouraging against circumcision and vitamin K shots, and she may also arrive late and unprepared to your birth.

My toddler went to her immediately and loved hanging out with her. While I was laboring she tidied up my kitchen so everything was clean for the next day for my husband. She supervised my little one while he came in to see me, and took him to another room when things got intense. He even let her put him down for a nap which I was super surprised by! My husband was able to focus on me the entire time without having to worry about the little. My labor was fast and intense so I was really thankful he was there for support. I would definitely recommend having a sibling doula from labor of love at your home birth, or if you need someone to be with your kids while you're at the hospital.

Our midwives had practiced in homes over the past 11 years, but were getting calls from women who did not want to be in the hospital to give birth, but were not desirous of home births. These were young educated women who often contacted us after they had done hours of research on their own and had finally found what they were looking for; someone who would respect their opinions, provide them with resource and then give them options on where and how to birth. Research was done, a plan was launched, permits were acquired, a building was secured and renovations began. We were able to now have the best of both worlds, a home-like environment and easy access to medical facilities should they become necessary.
