We live about 2 hours west, and wanted to venture around Natchitoches. We stopped at Almost Home for lunch, and am now wanting to make more plans in the area just to come back for lunch. The family atmosphere is better than advertised, and we even got to meet the young son of a waitress who entertained us with his T-Rex hand puppet. We will definitely be back! read more

I would definitely like to thank the Yelp community for mentioning this place... Chrissy, you have good taste! This was one of the best porkchops I have ever tasted, although this is not traditional buffet as most people think. Buffet here means that all the food is out, and you pick what you want, but you only go through one time. Update on price, it is now $8 for one meat, three sides, and a roll or cornbread. Tea is $1, soda $2 and dessert $2. The meat choices were porkchops, hamburger steak, chicken spaghetti and taco casserole. They had wonderful stewed okra and Friday nights is an all you can eat catfish fry. read more

Almost Home's awesome buffet is one of the very few things I liked about Natchitoches when I was there as a student. "Mom and Pop" were super nice and the food was delicious yet cheap. In 97, you could get a drink, meat, two vegetable sides and a dessert for under $5. I remember they had outstanding fried pork chops,meat loaf and coconut cream pie. The tea was questionable on some days, though. Most days it was delicious but some days it tasted like "sweet tomato trash." This place is absolute must to stop at while in town. We stumbled across this on the way out of town on Yelp and so glad we did. Food is fantastic and the family that owns it so sweet and helpful. If you're looking for a home cooked meal like Grams used to make, probably your cup of tea. Personally wasn't impressed with the limited buffet style of over cooked and very bland food choices. And a bit pricey for what it was. read more

We recently came for the first time. The food was good, and the server attentive. The price is a bit much, but fairly reasonable. You get a meat, three sides and one bread for $110. Dessert was 2.50, and delicious. read more

Back to Almost Home and dern if that big sour puss of a woman was still there strutting around checking plates to make sure everyone didn't get 2 types of meat or more than the required veggies. Honestly, she is ruining the man's business. I don't know why he has not fired her. We have been visiting relatives for a few days now and this was our last stop. Our kids love the Mac & Cheese, Sweet Potatoes and there is a type of meat casserole they liked. Hub loves the Pork Chop but I just drank a glass of tea because I don't think I could stand eating and having that woman GLARE at us. So I would give it more stars if it were not for HER. We stopped at a gas station and filled up when leaving town and I had some wonderful Nakatosh Meat Pies. read more

I had lunch here one day after hearing several. Coworkers tell me how good it was. There was a good selection at the buffet but the food just wasn't good. The hamburger steak wasn't bad but was really small and you only get one meat so I couldn't have more. The mashed potatoes were imitation and had no flavor at all. You would think the gravy I put on the potatoes would help but it was horrible and had to be instant gravy. I ate cheesy noodles and that small hamburger steak and left. $12.00 for a horrible meal and I won't be back. K read more

Strongly recommend going ANYWHERE else in Natchitoches than this place. I've been coming here off and on since I was able to walk. My grandparents loved it so Sunday lunch was spent here for several years until it went under new management. Since then we have returned every now and then. Today I went to purchase a large take out order for the men that work at my school (I'm a student worker) getting ready for the new school year. I came in to get a quote and a menu for my boss to look over. While I was in there the older lady (mid 40's, tall, slightly heavy set) was rather rude to the younger lady (early 20's, slim) working there too, but I got my info and then later called in my lunch order. I got there to pick up, and was informed that my tax exempt form would not be honored nor would she take the credit card I've used at every other restaurant in town. Therefore, I told the afore mentioned older lady that I could not pay for the food and she then began ranting at me and then made me call my boss so she could rant at him too! I was going to return to buy my own lunch from Almost Home, but needless to say, I did not. Almost Home took my day from the usual to 'almost' fired in a matter of 30 minutes. I wouldn't give this place one star if I didn't have to for my review to post. read more
