Great location but the food absolutely below ordinary and the prices higher than any other spot in Natchitoches.

You're not a true Louisianan if you don't crave this cuisine. And sometimes other places that offer it make it too pricey or too spicy or too over-done. Not here! 'Boy howdy,' did this spot get it right & sail the flavor boat around the world without stopping!! Quick & friendly service. Lots of options with a la cart goodness. Seasoning that was JUST RIGHT!! Heat and warmth lasted throughout the meal so mine didn't get cold quickly. Sassy (which tastes buttery and salty) or Swamp (think Yum-Yum) sauces are fine selections to dredge the goods. My goodness, I forgot all about the competition across town at first bite. My crawfish claws and tails were SO fresh and tender I could easily crack it or pull out the meat and suck the umami juices. And when sucking the heads, the clear hint of lemon was there, just slap yo' mama already!! As we sat and ate, car after car after car pulled in and this was mid-afternoon, no lunch rush. People have been getting the memo that this Cajun spot is the place to go. Plus, the shrimp are YYYYUGE!!!! Only down side: not enough places to eat. Just the bar. The stools with no backs are hurting the hiney after an hour-long feeding and a thorough cleaning had to be requested as well as some paper towels/napkins at the minimal bar area to sit and chow. May I suggest more open and spaced seating arrangements could be added? T-Johnny's will be my go-to in Natchitoches in the quadruple parish area & it should be yours too--totally worth it!

I ordered the combo plates with catfish and shrimp. Well when it arrived i was really disappointed in the size of fish filets. They were very small and you could tell they had sliced a whole filet in half to make 2 pieces and gave half of another to make 3 pinky dink piecs of fish. Kinda a rip off . Considering it was 22+$ meal. Really pathetic. But it tasted good and shrimp were ok to. Also would've been better if they made their own cocktail sauce or put the things to make your own on the table. You could tell it was cheap bottled commercial sauce. Tater sauce was same way. Anyway id probably go back again but try a different dish next time. This place could be great if they went that little extra mile to make their own sauce and portions that made people feel like they got their money's worth. Spent 41$ + tip for my meal . 1 person.

Well seasoned . Portion sizes were adequate. Bella our server was friendly and efficient. Our visit lasted about an hour. When we left at 2pm , nearly everyone had cleared out. They dont make their own cocktail sauce which is easy to do. The brand they use is thin and tasteless. Barely any horseradish in it. Ill try it one more time and order something different next time. Maybe it will be better. The taste of the fish was fine and shrimp was ok also. Boudin dip was good. Kinda high also when they just throw some tostidos on the plate with it and dont make their own chips which is easy. It could be a great place if they put a little more into their dishes and not use store bought chips and sauces. Spent $41 + tip on 1 person meal and felt cheated.

I wrote a 4 star review for Catfish Inn several years ago, and forgot about it, until I saw it when…read moreI came to post this one. About a week and a half ago, I was on the phone with my oldest sister. I didn't realize I was being loud, but I was basically updating her on my prognosis, which is a grade 4 glioblastoma. It's an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer, and I have been given about a year to live. The waitress overheard me, and when she brought our food, she said our meal was on the house. I was confused at first, before realizing that she heard my conversation. I stood up and hugged her. It was very difficult not to cry. This meant so much to me. I found out I had a glioma tumor in January. February 7th, I was informed that it was a glioblastoma. Then a week later, I was informed that it was a grade 4. There is no grade 5. Before all of this, I had been taking care of my mom, who passed away last February. After I lost my mom, I have been staying with friends and family, battling depression, extreme anxiety, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, and anger that has plagued me for years. In the time that I found out about my tumor, I have been shunned by friends I thought would ALWAYS be there for me, thrown out of my relative's house, and just tonight, after finally reaching my other sister and telling her that I am dying, she tells me I'm going to hell. Why? Because I'm not a christian, and don't believe in god. I've lived a good life, and have treated others the way I want to be treated. But my own sister tells me I'm going to hell, because I don't believe in HER god, completely ignoring the fact that there are over four thousand different religions, all believing that THEIRS is the one true religion. It is unbelievable how "friends" and family can treat you like dirt during the worst possible time in your life, and a complete stranger shows complete, unselfish compassion. If not for my five year old daughter, I would have already committed suicide. It seems as though not three days go by without a family member or someone I thought was my friend says or does something that crushes me inside. I've lost track of the number of so-called friends who told me that we would do something (insert day here), only for that day to come and never hear from them. I even had one "friend" get mad and hang up on me, because I wouldn't tell her where I was staying, so she could come pick me up. She had been drinking, with her husband telling her in the background that she wasn't going anywhere. She started insulting him. I told her to stop insulting her husband because he was right, and she told me to go f**k myself, and hung up.This was AFTER she called, crying and apologizing for avoiding me. This is supposed to be a review, and I've gone a bit off track. The food and service at Catfish Inn are always excellent. They have a delicious buffet, burgers, and soft serve ice cream. There is nothing I dislike about this restaurant. Small town restaurants have the best food and staff! I consider myself a strong man, but it almost feels as though nearly everyone I love has turned against me, and it hurts like hell. No, not almost. That is exactly what has happened, and it's sickening. Thank you, Catfish Inn, for showing me sympathy I haven't known from those I considered closest to me. When I told my dad via phone two weeks ago, all he could say was, "Wow. I hate that." then proceeded to talk about how the cost of his Dish Network has increased by $30.00 for the next 20 minutes. Places like Catfish Inn and the people who work there deserve our complete and utter support. If only for the food alone. But the kindness I was shown that day, especially since I am struggling financially, meant the world to me.

If I lived in the area I would likely be calling the Happy Cajun my second home. The bar is full of locals. It was a Saturday night when we stopped in and every Saturday is karaoke night. Steve H and I quickly made friends with the guy running the karaoke - he was awesome and did a great job! I drank some gin and tonics and had a couple of shots and enjoyed the atmosphere. The shots were a little small, so not sure what was up with that. I assumed it had something to do with the dry county and how you have to have a membership to drink. This is the kind of place where people are friendly and everyone is welcome it seemed. I saw all walks of life in the bar, which is always a good thing. The bartenders were great! There were pool tables and people having a great time all around. I could tell the people singing karaoke get lots of practice and likely sing the same songs over and over, but that is another reason why this bar was so awesome. It almost felt like going back in time a bit here too. The bar is a little divey and kind of a whole in the wall place, but this all adds to the persona of the bar. If you are camping down the road at Martin Dies State Park or just need a place to get away, have a couple of drinks and meet some nice people then stop in at the Happy Cajun because this place was bad-ass and a diamond in the rough!
