Had a stop in Calgary and stayed at this Aloft. It was decent. Bed was comfortable, staff was nice, and the hotel was clean. The room had a damp smell to it, so I had to keep the AC low to try to air out the room. There are no microwaves in the room, but microwaves in random places of the hotel. The pool area was cool. It was indoor and had a lot of chairs to lay on. There was free continental breakfast, but I was not a fan of it. The chicken sausage was overcooked and almost burnt. Eggs and potato lacked flavor. read more

Aloft Calgary University is a relative new hotel in the area. As expected, it was clean and modern. I love Aloft's amenities and had stayed in a few of them around the World and never been disappointed. Staff at the reception/registration is so welcoming. The whole lobby just have this young and energetic vibe. The room is well appointed with great amenities. Love all these little touches around the room. Highly recommended and will definitely be staying here again next time when I am in town. read more

Convenient location near a C train station and the highway. Indoor parking, pool, free breakfast. Our room was clean and quiet, with refrigerator, coffee maker and a safe. Staff are obliging. There's some fast food places nearby as well as restaurants and bars. Short walk to McMahon Stadium. On the downside the shower has soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers, which weren't refilled through our stay, so maybe bring your own. Price was reasonable. read more

For what seems like a decent 3 star hotel I would only give it about 2 or 2.5 stars. I'll give it a 3 to be nice. I had to stay here for a work conference and was underwhelmed. It has such impressive decor that I was expecting a bit more maybe? We had no wifi connection in our room even though there was apparently nothing wrong with it. They even had me come down and give my phone to them to check. Nothing? My other coworkers had no wifi either. This was a bit of a problem because I need to work here and had to hotspot off my phone. I wasn't expecting to incur extra charges on data. If it was just a me problem I would think there was something wrong with my phone but since others were having the same issue I know the wifi was just not working - no real effort to fix it either which isn't great because a lot of people this hotel caters to are professionals looking to do work. Our room had some old trash in it and it was clear the sink had not been wiped out. Not a huge problem but surprising since these things are usually taken care of. I wiped the sink area myself in order to feel a bit more comfortable. Beds are quite comfortable and there are a lot of outlets. But no wifi so its not like you would have much to charge. Breakfast bar was gross. There were things in there that I thought were completely inedible, such as the hashbrowns. The oatmeal was OK but for how many optioned there were I expected them to actually taste good. I think your best bet is to have oatmeal with a banana or something. Their juices taste like sweet water, absolutely no actual juice flavour but very sweet. Not a fan. Something I liked here was the XYZ Lounge (I think that is what it is called) which was actually awesome. You can get SO MUCH food there for so cheap! I've attached an image to this review and you can see how much food is there... our bill was literally $50. FOR ALL THAT FOOD!!!! Definitely the highlight of my stay there. Our server was also fantastic. And of course the rest of the staff were fine too. My commentary is mostly on the hotel itself and no negative feelings towards employees. The pool was also fun and a lot warmer than I expected so I liked that. It also looks like there is a fitness room that people were utilizing so I was happy to see that! So would I stay here again? Probably not. I need a wifi connection to work and this was a work trip. I also really did not like the free breakfast - I thought it was quite bad to be perfectly honest. So I've changed my rating a few times. The hotel staff worked very hard to address my concerns and really came through to make me happy. I appreciate their efforts. Old review: My room reservation was not honored. I was told they were sold out on that type so they couldn't honor it... BUT THATS WHAT I BOOKED! who else is getting the room that I booked? Move them! Not someone who has to stay here for multiple days! Also, I did not want to be on the first floor as I am a woman traveling alone... I stressed this at check in, but it was not honored. This is a nice hotel and, if you ask for rooms in the back of the hotel, you could be very happy here. I stayed on business and needed a quiet room with good wi-fi. I was given a front room which had great wi-fi. Unfortunately, the bed was like one of those coin-op massage beds which shook so dramatically that I thought we'd had an earthquake. Then it happened again. I called the front desk. Oh, they said, that's the train (there's a light-rail train across the street). Do you want to change from your King to a Double? No, not now that I'm all unpacked, in my jammies and my feet hang off the end of a Double bed. How long does the train run? Should end at midnight. OK I'll just stay here. Bad choice for me. I was up all night. And a 2-light blinking (every 5.6 seconds) smoke detector (I'd not noticed while the lights were on) positioned over the bed made it that much worse. Everything else about the hotel, from room design (a long upholstered bench for your luggage or to put on your shoes), to amenities and even the morning breakfast were all good things. But if you are in town for early meetings and can't sleep, what's the point? read more

Update! Very sad, 20 days a year I stay here and they would always waive the dumbest fee in the world, or tax grab, the DMF. Says right on their web page; "A Destination Marketing Fee (DMF) is voluntarily collected by hotels in some communities, where it is used to enhance tourism marketing and community initiatives. These fees are not legislated by government." There is absolutely no enhancement from this tax, nor is there any marketing value, nor is there ANY COMMUNITY INITIATIVE. Why would a property (hotel) even consider this fee??? this is the Letter after my reso from property manager. Dear Mr. Smith I noticed in our reservations that you have 2 prepaid rooms for arrival tomorrow. Thank-you again for choosing our hotel. I have mentioned this is the past, and am bringing it to your attention again, we will not be reimbursing/adjusting the destination marketing fee from a guest stay. As the hotel has signed on for another year, Tourism Calgary/Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association will not be providing the hotel with any reimbursement for this fee. We have also followed up with other Starwood properties here in Calgary to ask if they are also charging DMF they confirmed they are and not providing any adjustments. I thought it was important to tell you so that you are aware should you reserve with Aloft hotel again. There are hotels out there that do not participate in the DMF fund, however they are now created a new fee on their bill called carbon tax fee. This is now being added at a few hotels in the city. We have decided at this time not to implement it, but it may change in the future. John , if you do not wish to keep your reservations because of this, please let me know and we'll reimburse you the prepaid rate. Please let me know if you have any questions. The hotel is pleasant and the lobby/restaurant is clean. The workout facility is better than expected. Everyone is super nice and the rooms are clean. Restaurant is just ok. I had dinner at the bar, because nothing decent is near the hotel. the quinoa salad is awesome. I then ordered the chicken in a sauce i couldn't identify, but was good. The chicken was too dry to really eat. The server said it was made fresh daily. It was a little leathery . The drinks are just awful. They pour out of a measuring cup to insure they don't over pour. Which I'm ok with. But then the pout into your glass full of ice and it splatter all over the bar. My drink probably ended up being half a shot. Charge me a couple extra dollars and make me a drink. It's ridiculous, careless and cheap. The bartender, who i believe was the manager or at least bar manager was nice, but annoying. She was apparently short handed. Which i can appreciate being an issue, but she felt compelled to tell every one she was down a bartender and she was just doing the best she could. They were not even that busy. Maybe i was just tired and annoyed, so don't over think this last comment. Overall, a decent place to stay, if not the best location for me. read more

I stayed at the Aloft on the weekend of Sept 30/Oct 1 2017. All of the staff were very friendly, courteous, and professional. Vanessa at the front desk had the utmost patience, and always made me feel like I was welcome. All the other staff were just as good. My room was clean, welcoming, and very comfortable. The free continental breakfast was above average, and even included a hot buffet. I will definitely return on my next overnight visit to Calgary. Why only four stars? Only because of the driveway in front of the hotel. As you're leaving the hotel, exiting from the canopy area, there's quite a dip in the driveway. Even a couple of taxi drivers told me they've scraped the bottom of their front bumpers on it. Besides the driveway, everything about the Aloft is great! read more

This hotel would have been a 5 star except for a couple of issues. First, we loved the staff - they were fantastic and helpful in every way. The location of the hotel is good because it is central to anything you might want to do in Calgary. This is a dog/pet friendly hotel. I love that. Except that: -there were no places close by to take your dog to poo. - No grassy area near the hotel -there was no information on where the closest dog friendly parks were located. A couple of things we would have liked: -there was only 1 chair, we had to get a second from the bar -the desk, work space, was next to the air conditioner ( freezing) - easy to change -the fridge does not have a freezer- some people need to freeze ice packs for insulin etc -front desk should have a list of dog friendly parks and restaurants Even with these criticisms, I would say this is a very good hotel. read more

For two days, my friend and I stayed at the Aloft. Quite the swanky hotel, with a lounge area and an indoor pool surrounded by colored lighting. The place is pretty clean, and the rooms are spacious enough. I don't know if they have them in every room, but our room came with pixel art body pillows with a lady's face and pink hair - something you'd see in minecraft or something. Uh... I'd just say it was amusing to see. I was about to crack up laughing as I saw a similar pattern on the window blind, but to my relief it was just a splash of color in the same pixelated color scheme as the pillow. Breakfast is pretty bad. It seems like the breakfast was previously for purchase prior? I definitely feel sorry for those who had to pay for that breakfast. Sausages were rubber and disgusting. Fruit apparently tasted off. Eggs were definitely just instant. I'd say they definitely need to improve their breakfast. I'm assuming most people are in town to explore the parks, etc., so a good breakfast will definitely rake in the customers. Apart from that, the hotel is pretty clean and a good spot to rest in between some packed days! read more

This hotel had what we needed, a clean bed and restrooms. I like that they had free breakfast so I could get my morning coffee. However the hotel smelled dirty and old. I think they need to change the air filters so that it does not smell like dust. FYI: The pictured make it look nicer than it actually is. I would not stay again. read more

The rooms are clean and we like how they are decorated, the beds are very comfortable. There's a minors friendly lounge with really great food. There were board games a pool table and computers, couches and couches to lounge on to watch tv on a giant tv. The staff were friendly and helpful. The design of the whole hotel is so different from other hotels but in this case different is good! There's a small pool with a nice patio area with lots of spots to sit and relax. The W XYZ Lounge was a pleasant surprise and a great way to relax after a long day of driving. The bar menu choices were way above average and there were a variety of local beers on tap. My corporate travel co switched from Marriott to the Aloft in Calgary as preferred hotel last year. As a firm Marriott fan I wasn't thrilled, but have to admit I don't really have anything to complain about. The hotel has all of the amenities I need, and we get a SUPER reasonable corporate rate that actually really blows me away! I like the food selection for room service/bar, and the free breakfast which saves me so much time, effort and money every morning. It really does mean a LOT! Most importantly, I have had a couple of incidents where I either had to cancel due to weather or I actually booked incorrectly, and the hotel has worked with me each time to ensure I'm not penalized for my own mistakes/ situations. I know I'm not spending my own money but I appreciate even MORE that they treat my company's money respectfully as though it was my own. Additionally, I find the staff friendly, personable and reasonable - a refreshing thing when so many hotels have corporate drones working with customers. I'm always happy with my stay at the Aloft -just need to check out the spa soon I think! Note: on my first stay I had a room at the front of the hotel where I could hear the public transit constantly and didn't sleep well, but since then I've asked for a room at the rear of the hotel and while it's a hike to get there every time ai sleep like a baby.... read more

Upon arriving at aloft my first impressions were great, the Decor was absolutely beautiful and the place was spotless. This hotel defiantly has a wow factor and is aesthetically very different to the typical hotel. Our room was very clean, it had a new flat screen Tv, modern decor, and a beautiful bathroom. The bathroom was all charcoal slate tile had a large shower with a rain style shower head. The pool was small but beautiful and there was a neat pool side lounge. The gym was new, very clean and featured built in speakers. The only thing that detracted from our experience was the some of the staff. While some of the staff were amazingly friendly others NEEDED a lesson in hospitality. Our experience at the Wxyz lounge was particularly disappointing, due to a rowdy young crowd a less than professional server and a 45 minuet old microwaved grilled cheese ( that they attempted to charge us for). Overall aloft hotel was beautiful and clean, but lack of professionalism by some of the staff detracted from what could of been a five star experience. read more

Aloft is just a great deal for what you receive. A modern room with everything you need! The shower head feels like you are taking a shower in the rain and a comfortable king bed with lots of soft pillows. This facility has a cute swimming pool, free parking (surface and garage) and free HOT breakfast! There's a bar inside along with a place to work out, an actual spin studio and great customer service if you need anything! All the people we encountered were hospitable and kind! read more

Staff was friendly and helpful even after we asked 3 times how to get to the spa ( posted signs on walls would have been helpful ) Room was clean, nicely decorated. Loved the mini fridge..so useful , more hotels should add those. Bathroom clean, modern fixtures. The pool onsite is great. There's a 24 hour snack shop which is super convenient especially if you don't care for vending machines. They serve a hot continental breakfast on the mornings and it was great food compared to lots of other hotels we've stayed in . Will return . read more

Ok hotel. It tries to be hip however it looks like poor construction. The carpet on the walls aren't lined up straight and you can see gaps on it. The sound barrier is horrible you can hear every fart from other rooms. Not a real closet in the room. I have given it three stars for having me bed bugs. I could stay here again. read more

Pleasantly surprised.....as a resident of calgary I needed a place to stay while my home was being renovated. I chose this hotel namely because it is a newly renovation SPG Sheraton. It is a swanky, modern hotel that perfectly suited my needs. I also chose this hotel as it accepts dogs.... I was so delighted to find a large dog bed, treats, bowls, and balls in my room upon arrival! They conveniently placed us on the main floor to make it easy for me to take the dogs out for a walk, however it is a bit of a hike to the front lobby! I like that the room is partially tiled for the dogs. There is a fridge, complimentary water, coffee maker, comfy pillows and overall the room is well decorated. My only complaint would be that there is no bath tub...only a shower. The lobby offers a cafe with 24 hours snacks and food. Buffet in the morning. I tried out the spa and was delighted that they offered a registered receipt for their massages.....$80/1 hour and $120/90 minutes. This is a great rate for a hotel spa and the massage was excellent. I saw Mary-Lou for a deep tissue and was very impressed with her strength and ability. Let's just say that I will be travelling from the other end of the city in the future for my massages! I also visited the W XYZ lounge in the lobby.....great service, great salt and pepper wings and great atmosphere. I recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone visiting our city. I just may come back here with my husband for a night getaway. read more

We needed a place to stay for our trip to Calgary and Aloft was a breath of fresh air. We had to find a place last minute and they delivered. Modern decor, very clean, staff was accommodating and friendly. Couldn't really ask for more. The rooms were not huge but the beds were very comfy and the room itself was spotless. If we would have had more time I would have checked out the pool area or the spa. They even offered a 24 hr snack area. Good to know they accept pets as well. If we have to stay in Calgary again we would definitely stay here again. read more

Surprisingly, after reading the reviews I almost expected too much from this hotel. Maybe it was because of that I was a little disappointed at the size of the rooms. Pool is amazing, the pool table was very cool! The breakfast was grand and enjoyable. Why, you ask, did I rate it four stars then? The washroom! The washroom in the suite doesn't have a lock, which in theory isn't too bad but it just comes down to a lack of privacy which made me feel very uncomfortable. That's probably the only con in my opinion. read more
