I had a layover in Calgary and stayed at the Sheraton. Our flight was delayed but the shuttle was there when we walked out of the airport at 11:30pm. It was -23 and it was wonderful to be whisked away to a comfortable and warm hotel. The room was large, the robe was super comfy, and the people could not have been friendlier. We were back out the next morning, so I didn't get a chance to try the restaurants or pool, but the service was excellent.

The boys and I were here to attend a friend's wedding reception. When we walked in, we discovered that there were two other wedding reception dinners going on at the same time but only one set of washrooms. Were all three groups expected to share the same set of washrooms? It's not like the staff were taking extra precautions to clean regularly during the evening -- yikes! The hospitality staff were friendly and efficient. Dinner was served in a timely manner and included a Caesar salad and roasted striploin with red wine demi glaze and seasonal vegetables. My striploin was well done but seasoned perfectly(while other tables had their striploin medium rare). Overall, the ballroom that the wedding party and guests were seated in was very spacious and well ventilated with a high ceiling.

Amazing family weekend getaway!

We wanted a family weekend getaway and this place delivered big time! We had supper downstairs and it was good, front staff are friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean and well stocked. We requested two housecoats and extra towels and they came quickly. The pool/oasis is amazing. Staff give you towels at check in, beach side "pool chairs" that are well spaced out, lots of room, tonnes of life jackets to borrow. Staff are extremely present and they checked the pool quality a few times. We will definitely be back just for the water park. I suggest bringing flip flops and a pool bag to bring things you need, also kid housecoats for going to and from water park on main level. Only recommendation for the room would be earplugs as second floor you could hear lots and an eye mask if worried about light at night, as the door has a slight space at bottom so light comes through a bit. My kids and myself give this 2 thumbs wayyyyy up!

Great hotel. They have a free airport shuttle which is good but you have to wait 20 minutes for it to arrive. The hotel itself is very well maintained. It's big & brightly lite with at least 1 bar & 2 restaurants. The room that we stayed in was a King with a great bed & modern design. The bathroom was well equity & modern as well. The only minor issue...not a fan of the bed cloth. The bed cover is made up of a couple pieces that fall apart when used. The other minor issue...heating unit. Ours sounded like a transport truck started in our room when it came on. That took some getting used to. With Comfortable rooms, great lobby seating area & a very central location to where my family lives, this is a win for us.

They also had a fully stocked minibar and 24 hour room service, which is always a nice bonus when you are coming back late from meetings or events. I did not get a chance to try the restaurant, but it looked very nice and upscale. What really stood out was the location. It was centrally located and made it easy to walk over to Scotiabank Arena to catch a Flames game, and there were plenty of food options nearby as well. Overall a really convenient and comfortable stay. Would definitely recommend it if you are visiting the area for work or a game.

The Palliser was a great location for all things Stampede especially the parade. We met one of the restaurant managers who showed us around and even got us great seats on the street for the parade (thanks Sultan!). We did have rooms overlooking multiple train tracks and we could hear the train all night which isn't as romantic as one may think but the lighting in our room was almost non existent. Bed was great! and a shout out to Darren - not sure what department he was from but he was Johnny on the spot helping us with everything from hangars to luggage racks to ice. The spa treatment was fabulous but opted to stay out of the pool as it was noisy from all the little kids. Fairmonts are wonderful and they did an amazing job with all the cowboys and activities going on. so close to restaurants and fun. I'll be back.

The building also includes a nice gym, laundry room with a good number of washers and dryers, and even a first-come first-serve "office" room on the first floor which we ended up using for when we needed to take calls. Breakfast was included in the room rate and we really appreciated the quality and the options of what was available (from standard continental breakfast fare to waffle machines, eggs/bacon/sausage/tater totes, to oatmeal and congee). Coffee was not our favorite but the good news is there are plenty of wonderful cafe options outside the hotel. The hotel has both valet parking and self-parking options available. The self-parking option that is affiliated with the hotel is outdoor parking that is located a little distance away from the property. There is a second self-parking option (Indigo Neo) that is underground and part of the property but is not at all affiliated with the hotels. We chose the Indigo Neo option for convenience. Payment was license-plate based and managed online--the hotel staff were really great about emphasizing the need to remember to pay for the parking as Indigo Neo team are strict about ticketing those who don't pay. Service was 5+ stars. All of the team members from the front desk to the chef team and wait staff to the valet were all very kind, courteous and accommodating. The team was extremely proactive when they noticed that our in-room phone line had static and within minutes, maintenance was at our door. And when our trip had to be extended by one extra day due to an unexpected situation, the front desk team (Mercedes) was so patient and helpful in helping us navigate the situation and resolve it. At breakfast, I even heard the head chef agreeing to help a student sports team get breakfast and make it to their game on time by coming in earlier than usual. Amazing kindness by the whole team! Location is great with plenty of places to eat (pro-tip: Noble Pie is a block away and a must-try pizza spot) and shops that are walking distance away. Some blocks are rougher than others but nothing unexpected for a city. Great place for work or play. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Calgary!

But once you get the hang of it, not too bad. The other thing to note is the homeless population in the area. There are a lot. Other than that, the rooms are nice, with everything you would need if you were there for a long stay, including a kitchen with a full fridge and dishwasher. The bar has some good that was ok, nothing great and the service is slow. Since it was the weekend, the rate was reasonable. At check-in, we were given free water bottles and our room was on the 9th floor. One of the elevators was out of order but the waits weren't long. I didn't know there was a restaurant so that was convenient for our dinner. That evening, we noticed that the bedsheet was coming off the bed and we tried to get it back on the corners but with no luck. The heater was blasting cold air. With these issues, we had someone come up. He explained the temperature control was missing a setting that would turn off the fan. He tried to put the bedding on but wasn't able to and said it was due to bedsheets shrinking in the wash. Should that get larger bedsheets to fit over the mattress? They moved us to another room which was better as the bedsheets didn't reveal the mattress. There was a sofa which was better for one person to watch TV. From the bed, the TV had to be turned and the position wasn't ideal for all viewpoints. We had a large fridge, stove top, cups, plates, and cutlery. The shower was nice but to turn it on, you would get splashed by the water so you may get a blast of cold water. Our room was above the train so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. The gym was nice but two of the ellipticals' displays didn't work. The pool and hot tub also looked nice but the water in the hot tub wasn't very hot and just one jet that was powerful and the rest didn't seem to work. I also saw a large bug on the pool deck but luckily it did not join me in the hot tub. The hotel restaurant was ok. It was busy for one server so the service wasn't excellent. They have happy hour specials so we did get a discount off of our drinks. The location was convenient to walk to the Saddledome and there's a Superstore a block away.

The staff were also very helpful throughout my stay. A few minor things to note: my room didn't come with robes or slippers, and the in-room coffee station used standard drip packs rather than espresso pods. I also experienced a fair amount of noise from an adjacent bar in the evening even though we were on the 23rd floor. Noise continued beyond 10pm and it was louder than the tv. Once we had a room, Rodrico checked that our bags would be picked up in the morning and he determined that the tour company was planning to drop my 80 year old brother-in-law at a different hotel than us. Rodrico got on the phone and made sure that we would all be at the same hotel in Banff. He then made several calls for us to make sure that the Tour company hadn't made any other mistakes.
