    Lettuce 2 for $1

This market sells a variety of fruits and vegetables depending on what's in season. Some of the stuff looks really fresh but some look really bruised and old. It just seems like a hit or miss depending on when you go and what they have in stock. I think their prices are on par with the lowest in Chinatown if not cheaper. I picked up a couple of lettuce 2 for $1. If I had bought these at Safeway, I probably would have paid around $2 for one. These will be great when I visit the Tilden Park Animal Farm to feed the animals. I think what surprised me about this place was that the people that work here were mostly not Chinese. There doesn't seem to be a language barrier issue. I thought they were very nice and respectful of the Chinese people that shop here.

A must for us every single visit is the Honey Glow pineapple -- if you haven't tried one, you're missing out. They are incredibly sweet, almost like biting into pure sugar, but in the most natural and refreshing way. It's the kind of fruit that's hard to find at your average grocery store, and Berkeley Bowl delivers consistently. Beyond the pineapple, the quality across the board is impressive. The blueberries are plump and flavourful, the oranges are bright and juicy, and the wider fruit selection never fails to catch our eye. It's clear that real care goes into sourcing what ends up on those shelves. For anyone living in or passing through the East Bay, Berkeley Bowl is absolutely worth a stop. It's one of those places that makes grocery shopping genuinely enjoyable, and the produce alone is reason enough to visit.

This is good as it means they use fresh fruits for their smoothie. I got the cantaloupe and strawberry smoothie. It was so good. Their menu explains the benefit of each drink and has lots of choices. I finally tried this out since we were eating at a place nearby and got lucky and parked right across from this shop. They not only have juices and teas. They sell other items, fresh veggies, fresh fruits and California Lottery Tickets. ----LOCATION---- - Located in Chinatown - Street Parking, plan accordingly or drive with someone and have a friend hop out of the car for order pick up ---HOW TO ORDER/PAY---- - Order/Pay in Person or on a variety of food apps like Uber Eats but also you can order through YELP. - I recommend ordering on YELP or another food app so that pick up is quick and efficient. ____DRINKS____ ----CANTALOUPE & STRAWBERRY JUICE---- - I created this using their "3 Choice" Juice option - Super refreshing! Especially on a hot day - Keep in mind that they are no added sugars, it's straight up fruit and not so sweet - Super healthy! ---- VITMAIN C TEAM---- - This is one of their pre-made juices that is ready for purchase. - They make it themselves - Great for if you're feeling sick, around sick people or for before/after a trip and you need that extra vitamin c boost! - A heads up, the ginger taste is strong in this ----DRAGON FRUIT SMOOTHIE---- - This is was refreshing and tasty. I liked how it wasn't too sweet. My boyfriend originally ordered this but didn't like it so much because it tasted like "Earth" but that's the whole point for it to be no additives and straight fruits and no artificial flavoring... more for me because I drank his smoothie LOL ---SERVICE---- -Service is amazing. They are very kind and grateful. If you have any questions regarding their drinks, they will explain them to you. ---RESTROOMS/INTERIOR--- - No restrooms - It's a small corner shop - This is a more of a grab and go type of establishment ----REASONS FOR MY 5 STARS---- - Variety of fruits and veggies for drinks - Great customer service, they were/are very patient and kind to everyone that they interact with while I was waiting for my drinks

Because I've finally had it with the lackluster, tired attitude of most of the staff who work here. WHAT'S HAPPENING, Berkeley Bowl West Management? Why aren't your employees happier? There is a huge difference between your workers (particularly the checkers) and the checkers at Trader Joe's, as one example. The latter are usually pleasant, friendly, cheerful and seem to enjoy their jobs for the most part. Everyone has an off day once in a while, but every time I shop here, the checkers seem to be anxious for their next break. There is a crack in your foundation. It's also a drag to so often have overcharges that would go unnoticed by me if I had not taken a receipt. I can't recall a time I was UNDER charged, but overcharges happen often. I love, love, love that you do not play music in your store. My sensitive nature thanks you, very much.

Fun fact: this place is famous for carrying hard-to-find and foraged produce and has been a quiet favorite of Bay Area chefs for decades, which explains why half the fruits look like they belong in a cooking show challenge. That said, the quality isn't flawless. This past summer the corn on the cob was disappointing, with a few ears already rotten at one end once you peel back the husk, so definitely inspect before buying. Also, the clientele is usually fine, but this visit featured an unnecessary checkout cameo from a full-volume Karen who felt the need to explain how standing in line works. The cashier chose silence, which felt like a statement. Still a great market overall, just keep an eye on the corn and maybe bring a little extra patience to the register.
