Owning a firearm has been on my to-do list, however self training isnt always practical. I have been to a shooting range, but was never really taught proper form. I have also been very interested in classes such as combat training & close encounter defense tactics. Here, they teach it all. Form, rules, regulations, expectations, practice, self defense, familiarity, mental awareness, & practical experiences. Both my brother & I have been here about 2 months now & its been a great experience all around. Booking is pretty easy. & I love the fact that we can go at our own pace. Lastly, I firmly believe everyone should have some form of training in any type of self defense. Here, you'll find it & more. I highly recommend this facility & all its staff.

Updating my Review .. as per the Business owners reply…read more. The business owner responded with flat out lies about the nature of the issue. I have never threatened bad reviews.. In fact I almost never give a bad review.. this is the very first review I have ever done on Yelp. The business has NOT extended my credits over and over.. The issue of credit extension was raised only when my original contract ended, and they told me that $49/mo alumni would preserve my unused credits. . The issue has arisen presently to this review on yelp because when I went to use the credits I and to my shock I find they are not there. I asked them to restore them and they thus have refused.. only agreeing to give me 60 days to use six months back alumni credits.. The alumni program gives a credit every month.. This is not restoring my credits from the prior program that I was promised the alumni would preserve. Nor is 60 days a reasonable time to use the few credits they are granting.. given the difficulties with scheduling oversold classes. I understand the business owner saying a credits can't be extended indefinitely IF there wasn't some form of consideration, which is what I was led to believe the alumni subscription was providing at $49/mo. Since I started that alumni program they have collected over an additional $1000 without extending the credits as promised. Why this is so hard for them to simply extend the credits I paid for is beyond me.. Perhaps they have scammed so many people that if they begin to accommodate, the dam will break. The scheduling is a REAL problem.. I presume it's because they have OVERSOLD the program and that makes getting into classes very difficult and perhaps that may have been by design.. knowing they would expire out those credits and just keep the customers money without providing service. All I want from this business is to honor what they promised.. It's really not that big of accommodation being requested.. go figure.

My teenage daughter wanted to take a training course for her birthday, and that is what we did, opting for the introductory pistol course. It was an interesting experience learning all of the detail and function behind these weapons, as well as getting to handle and become familiar with the different types, from the six-shooter to the 9-mm semi-automatic handguns. After watching an extensive training video, we got the opportunity to do some actual target shooting on the range. Our instructor was excellent and did a great job showing us how everything actually worked and providing useful tips on how to shoot. I would definitely recommend the training course for anyone with a curiosity about guns or if you simply want to know more about it. Five stars.

I took my initial CCW 16 hour two day course with Artemis Defense Institute and it was comprehensive, rewarding and even fun. Steven and Sandy Lieberman have this coursework mastered. Steven led the class and has vast knowledge in concealed carry and constitutional law. It was refreshing listening to the legal parameters as it relates to 1st, 2nd and 14th amendment issues and recent changes affecting concealed carry and future insights and possibilities. The class is enlightening and held in a comfortable and well designed conference classroom. Steven outlines the doctrine of necessity, Cooper's colors, the importance of mastering at skill at arms and the preservation of human life as core essentials. Professionalism at arms and the preservation of existence was a true focal point during the coursework. I so enjoyed Steven's style of teaching with real world scenarios, application and of course humor. This class is a must for anyone looking at a first time CCW, renewal or refresher, it's fantastic. Steven covers all aspects of SB2 (AB1078), philosophical doctrine, constitutional law, threat cycle, strategic and tactical environment characteristics and so much more. Sarah who manages the front end, provides training, handles all documentation inclusive of applications for additional CCW states such at AZ and UT and so much more. Sarah is phenomenal and another key player and pleasure to have in your corner. The team at Artemis is highly skilled, knowledgable, professional, helpful and caring. Kavon was our live fire qualification instructor and what an amazing professional and quality individual. Kavon is skilled in all aspects of firearms safety and operation and is another key staff member to compliment this amazing defense institute. Sandy was not present during our training due to a family emergency but Steven provided a summary of her background and skill traits as co-owner of the facility and her skills are quite impressive as well. I also purchased Steven's book which is available on Amazon titled Sword and Quill co-authored by Steve Tarani another self defense professional. I highly recommend this coursework through Artemis Defense Institute as this was rewarding and I plan to take additional training throughout the year when my wife and I are not traveling. 5 stars plus

He breaks down fundamentals in a way that's easy to understand without ever talking down to you. You can tell right away you're learning from someone who takes safety and skill seriously. Assisting Instructors Emilio and Julie were both excellent -- attentive, professional, and supportive throughout the drills. The whole class felt structured and well run, but still relaxed enough to enjoy. It never felt overwhelming. By the end of the day, I was noticeably more comfortable handling and operating my firearm -- from basic fundamentals to controlled drills and clearing malfunctions. Everything just felt smoother. I recently completed the 16 hour initial CCW course with Roger and it was an excellent experience…read more His course is accepted by LA County and he does a great job making sure you truly understand both the legal and personal responsibility that comes with carrying. What really sets Roger apart is his depth of experience. His background in the military and as a shooting coach is obvious in the way he teaches. He explains things clearly, gives real world context, and focuses on building safe habits and confidence. You can tell he has spent years training others and knows exactly how to communicate effectively. The simulator training was one of the most valuable parts. It puts you in realistic situations and forces you to think through decisions, not just focus on shooting. It made the class much more engaging and practical. Roger also made the environment welcoming and comfortable and even provided snacks and refreshments during the class. Overall he is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about his students. I highly recommend Roger and Basic Gun Safety to anyone pursuing their CCW. I was visiting from out of town (Oakland, CA) and stopped in to shoot. It was a weekend afternoon,…read moreso there was a bit of a wait. All in all, it was worth the wait. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It sounded like they made special accommodations for myself and some other shooters, by opening up the "tactical" range, since there were no members shooting at that time. That was awesome, because it got me on the range sooner. I also brought with me a new firearm - Canik Mete MC9LS with a new optic. I forgot my regular range bag with my tools; however, the range staff allowed me to use one of their tools to adjust my new optic. I don't know how the targets move on the regular range, but on the tactical range, you can push buttons to automatically set the targets at a specified distance, move the targets manually back and forth, and automatically have the target return. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable. $20 per lane and $0.50 targets - WAAAAAY better than prices in the Bay Area. If I were a resident of the area, I'd definitely become a member. (I overheard one of the staff members informing another customer of the benefits and price.). Top Notch outfit in my opinion.

I attended their intro to handguns class, covering the basics of safety and proper form, and getting in some introductory shooting experience. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. Definitely will make it a point to stop by again.
