What an amazing experience! My partner and I took the beginner basics course with Sledge. He is truly so knowledgeable and awesome. All the information given in the 3 hour class was so helpful. We were very new to firing guns prior to this course. We had bought our own firearms and went to a local shooting range to use them and I always felt scared but willing to learn. Sledge is great. This is my fifth class with him. I did the scoped rifle course with zeroing concepts. I had never shot a scoped rifle before, and before I knew it I was hitting targets 600 yards away as well as transitioning smoothly between targets at different distances. Buying a firearm and just going and using it with no sense of safety, handling, awareness, physics, aim, stance, and a lot more other basic principles is what many people who don't think it through do, just because you can. Then on the flip side, you have a section of people who are totally against firearms and a section of people who should not be having access to firearms. Was a bit apprehensive at first of whether to register for the Basic Pistol Course (BPC) having only shot a firearm once in my life and never a handgun. But after some soul-searching and research, I decided to take this class and chose Unified Tactical Defense because of its wide range of knowledge, vast experience, and convenient time (Sunday from 11 am - 2 pm). Football season ended the weekend before. Instructor Sledge introduced himself and provided background re: his experience and outlined what the 3-hour course would involve including safety, handling, usage and storage. Sledge was very knowledgeable of the law and well versed and organized in his approach for safety and use. The 5 students spent the first two hours in the classroom with the remaining hour spent in the indoor range with Sledge's guidance and counsel. He was very supportive and recognized everyone's tendencies and was able to provide immediate constructive feedback. I highly recommend this course regardless of your knowledge or skill level as Sledge is able to provide you insight no matter what your experience has been. Surprisingly, I don't know what I enjoyed more - the information I gained or the excellent results I had with my target practice. Went in nervous af and came out ready to shoot it up lol! In all seriousness bc firearms are no joke... Did the BPC with the only knowledge of firearms was from movies ‍ it was a 3hr course. First half was inside a classroom with legit hands on training. Super informative things that will stick with you. Things you wouldn't really think about until you see it in front of you. Hands on training to get a feel before going into the range. It seemed long in the beginning but, the more in-depth the instructor got, the more it made sense and made the class time seem shorter. Instructor invited ALL questions. Don't have a firearm? He had the answers. Don't know the laws? He had the answers. And if he didn't have the answers, he'd help find out. Second half was in the range. Ammo was included and if you don't have you're own firearm, he provided it. Depending on how many ppl were in your class, it rotates in shooting. I was in a class of 4 so I thought I was perfect. I shot in one lane with another guy and the other lane had the other 2 guys. Each time we did 3 rounds and he would access each of those. He knew exactly what was "wrong" each round and would literally fix it in that moment. Over all, this was a great experience. Something everyone should look into doing. Gun safety should be made a priority regardless of you owning a firearm or not. Instructor Sledge was great and super informative on everything. Made the class engaging and there was no biased bs at all. It was a class to learn the basics of a pistol and I got just that. Definitely planning on taking the shotgun course. Thank you UT!! We completed our basic firearms safety class today. Sledge was our instructor. This was a very positive experience. Sledge was an outstanding teacher. We were able to ask questions and get clarification as needed to pass the test. The course was an hour long. We were given study videos and a reference guide before class. The test was very easy to pass with this information. The availability of the class and price was superior to other companies offering the same outcome. I'd gone shooting with friends a handful of times, but figured I should get some professional instruction to catch any bad habits I might be reinforcing. I booked my appointment but my brother wanted to go last minute so I emailed them the night before to ask if I could bring him and they were fast to respond and they were very welcoming to my brother n me. The instructor had an outdoor section and had alot of scenarios, we did practice with 2 other people but it was actually fun. Professional, Personable and Patience are the attributes that Ed aka Sledge provided. I am a new weapon owner and had been hesitant on relying on friends or family to learn and or be taught as this in my mind requires a professional. I looked for training in my local area an found UT. Price seemed reasonable compared to others and after class it was literally the best bang for the buck. Sledge took me through basic gun safety rules and handling, taught me the in's and out's of my specific weapon. How to safely transport, store , maintain , load and fire the weapon. For a basic pistol course he covered a lot of ground and was going at my speed , he explained targets , habits, good and bad, shot grouping and threat readiness. He left me with a great understanding and what responsibilities a gun owner has and not to take them lightly. He left me with drills to work on and handling, cleaning and things I will need for his follow on classes if I was interested. I will definitely work with Ed again.
