Bad experience, two weeks without a toilet, then lied to about job specifications and what we needed done.

What a nightmare. In buying a home, the inspection revealed high radon levels. A radon mitigation system was written into the offer, with the seller covering the cost. I don't know who recommended Alpha, but I sure wish that they hadn't. The installer came out, saying there was only one place the system could go, which was outside a bedroom. He installed without hooking up the electrical, which has said he wasn't qualified to do. That meant that we had to engage an electrician, the charge falling to us, something that the sales offer didn't cover, an unexpected extra expense. When the system was switched on, the noise was excessive. Not just noise, but the vibration in the house. It was kind of like trying to sleep in the same room with a really bad 1970s refrigerator about to die. The only person from Alpha who came back to check on the system was the radon level test person, who said that he knew nothing about dealing with noise issue. I spoke with Arial on the phone, whose only response was: the fan is the quietest in the industry and, the system was installed in the only place possible on the house. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, he said he would look into it and call back. He never did. Doing my own online exploration, I found that possibilities include a defective fan motor, changing where the system was strapped to the house, adding padding between the strapping and the house, and/or adding sound dampening inside the system. None of these options were even suggested by Alpha. Service after the sale from Alpha was abysmal. I feel like they took the money and ran. read more

So, I had a sewer scope on a house I'm trying to purchase. The Tech that came out was excellent and their equipment good quality. The problem I have is with the video. They put it on YouTube. So, when I asked for copy of the video for my records, they said. I should have asked before the scope was done and it cost $10 extra. Which I would have gladly paid. BUT NO ONE TOLD ME THIS WHEN I WAS SCHEUDLING THE SCOPE. This is definitely poor customer service. read more

Where to start. If I was in the business of removing toxic substances from someone's home, I would make sure it was done right, and proper. I get that we were a small 3k job compared to your city contracts, but I expected more than this. We were told this normal, its how it is. Our Real Estate agent, several other contractors, and others in DIY groups were shocked this was done by a licensed business. The first time we asked for the work to be completed, the employee would only do work as pointed out by my wife, rather identify issues and remedy them. That leads me to believe that A) they dont know WHAT a good job is, or B) they have no interest in doing it correctly, just the minimum required. I waited a week to allow the anger I felt to subside, but leaving asbestos dust on the walls, counters, and sills is still causing me to feel some way. We are hiring someone to undo some of the damages done, and prep the ceiling for painting, which they may not tell you is what you should prep for and is "perfectly normal" for this type of work. We are still reaching out to others and will likely contact the Contractors Board and DEQ, to make sure that proper steps were indeed taken and that qualified work was completed. For those that have received quality work from them, I am happy for you and am glad your family wont have to worry about asbestos or whatever work you had done, but the work, to me, should be reliable and consistent across the board. We are selling our house, and during the home inspection the home inspector wrote down there are mold in the attic, loose bathroom exhaust pipe. The sellers request to correct and treatment for mold, and loose pipe. With the buyer's agent recommendation we asked Alpha to inspect the attic and give us a quote for correct the mold situation etc... I called Alpha on last Friday, and immediately I got scheduled on Monday. This is a really quick response because I called several other mold treatment companies, none of them could schedule us until Wednesday at earliest. The technician or the inspector, think his name is Russ, came on Monday as promised, I showed him the photos in the home inspection report, first he just reassured me not to worry about, and he would do a thorough examination of the attic and pay special attention to the photos related area. After he went in the attic, I could hear he walked up and down the attic for quite some time. He came out, and told me there were no mold issues in the attic, the attic is as dry as it could be, the exhaust pipe is secured and no leaks. This is really a very happy surprise for me. Later on I were told if in a home inspection report says there is a mold problem, in many cases the mold treatment companies would conduct mold treatments even though in reality the mold may not exist. We see these kind of practices all over the places, such as car repairs, even in some medical cases. So I consider Alpha business integrity is impeccable, and my realtor told me this is really rare, many businesses would be glad to make the money to do some mold treatment. So I want to express my thanks to Alpha to save us quite bit money and calm us down for the fact no mold in the attic. Who knows if I asked some other company for the examination, I may get a mold treatment in the attic even it doesn't need one. Also Alpha also offered a report for the details of this inspection. We sold our home and the buyer wanted a sewer pipe fixed! Tore my whole yard apart without any regard to how it looked before! They came into our cudlasac and block people's driveways including mine, did not ask just did it and did not care! Asked them to move and it took three hours of their lazy ass to finally move! Good thing not a medical emergency!!! When done they left dirt and rock in the street and a big ass mess of my yard which I know was a selling point for the purchaser! My realtor recommended Alpha for the testing of popcorn ceiling on a house I was buying and drove my sample to their office. They were extremely kind and helpful. The testing came back with asbestos. They gave me an estimate to remove the popcorn ceiling and I schedule the service. Dame and Ally were very helpful and accommodating with all my concerns and questions. I also needed to have the ceiling textured and painted and received another bid from a different company. Matt Micheletty came out to assess the job and thought it would be more convenient and time efficient to have them do everything. There was a wooden partition I needed removed and they were happy to include this in the job. They were quite a bit higher on the bid to do the texture. After discussing this with Matt he went over and above with a great solution. He contacted the other company to have them do the work and said if we were both satisfied with the results he would adjust the invoice to reflect the difference in pricing. In buying this home there were a few projects to be done. Before starting any of them I needed the popcorn ceiling removed first. It is almost impossible to write all the positive things, the outstanding service, the professionalism of all the workers, and the great job they ALL did. I had NO idea how much was involved in the removal of a popcorn ceiling, and to texture it afterwards. Our realtor recently contacted Alpha Environmental to do a mold remediation inspection under our dishwasher based on a previous home inspection by our buyer (we are the seller). Chris Pinheiro with Alpha Environmental was instructed to remove the dishwasher to determine the cause and how extensive the mold issue was in our kitchen. He then wrote us a bid for over $1700 to remediate the mold. He even suggested the kitchen cabinets should be removed as well, potentially driving the cost even higher for a handyman. Fortunately I pulled the dishwasher out myself to verify the extent of the damage before paying thousands of dollars. When I called him to discuss he admitted that he didn't pull the dishwasher out but he took a moisture ready under the sink and it was off the charts. However when I looked under the sink it was completely dry as we'd been gone for a entire week. The next day I had two other mold remediation companies come write bids and they both told me it was easy to fix and would be only a couple hundred dollars to remediate. We had all of the popcorn ceilings removed in several rooms and hallways in our home..... super unhappy with the results. honestly wish we would have went with the other 2 companies we got estimates from. They were both less expensive too. REASONS TO STAY AWAY: Lack of Integrity, Lack of care with our property, sloppy cleanup with the waste material left in our drive for a week, and poor customer service when dealing with these problems, these would be the reasons for not using Alpha Environmental. ON ALPHA'S INTEGRITY......BEWARE IF YOU GIVE YOUR CHARGE CARD FOR 50% PRIOR TO THE PROJECT START!!! The remaining 50% balance will be charged on completion, automatically. Our card was charged AT THE END of the project without our approval or any notification that the charges were being made. There is a kind of the standard in the industry I have experienced. You pay upfront for half and pay the balance upon completion upon satisfaction of the job. We were extremely unhappy with the results of the work and would have not paid the balance until the company performed some type of resolution to our issues. I talked, emailed and met in person for resolution. While they did listen and acknowledge the complaints as far as doing anything to help us out...NONE WAS OFFERED, not the slightest attempt to make good on any of our issues. Communicated our expectations of what was very important to us, with a representative of Alpha, prior to the project start. The expectations were not met. When I let the representative know, he immediately went into a rehearsed response to complaints, blaming regulations and state requirements etc. covering up for his crew's lack of care and attention to detail. He also said it was why they added a lot of language to their contracts to protect themselves as these were common complaints in the past. BASICALLY, READ THE FINE PRINT was the gist of all conversation that they keep circling back to. Grade: F minus in customer service and integrity. NOT ONE THING WAS OFFERED. ZERO. They looked at trim around windows that had 3/4-inch-deep gouges in six inch to foot long sections missing and said that was normal. In fact that the result looked good to them. Pictures below are a sample and do not begin to show how damaged they were by Alpha Environmental. CARE WITH OUR PROPERTY: Expect lots of damage and large chunks of wood to be ripped off of trim in your house. I knew in advance that there could be some glue residual, staples left by crew too busy to remove, (As the representative said a few times, " They don't do finish work") and potential for some damage but did not expect large gashes in the wood trim in every room of the house. Also the amount of tape left randomly that seemed easy to remove was excessive. I removed some prior to the person who came to the house as carelessly leaving tape and other materials was not a big deal as to ripping the wood. We give them an F on care with our property. CLEANLINESS: They were not particularly great in the cleanup. Lots of residual dirt, tape and materials left. Countertops in rooms where they didn't work had a film of who knows what on it. A DUMPSTER FULL OF THE HAZARDESS WASTE WAS LEFT IN OUR DRIVE WITH THE DOOR OPEN. FOR A WEEK. Excuses made for the company that removes the container. No mention from the rep that leaving a container full of asbestos with the door open during windstorms might violate some state regulation. Just blame the container company. D on cleanliness and F on accepting responsibility. The work itself was okay. In the opinion of 3 drywall contractors who came to give estimates to repair the ceilings and texture and paint. The removal work was just okay. Not great not bad. Also, they were all surprised at the amount of damage to wood. The company rep when I told him what the drywall people said, wanted the names of the contractors. Supposedly he wanted the advice of the drywall contractors on improving. Hmmm. Thought that was unprofessional on his part. He a couple of times said that he sent one of his best and most careful and experienced crews. Sure, am glad we didn't get the unexperienced careless crews. I can't state enough our dissatisfaction with getting charged automatically when the work performance did not meet expectation and the lack of care in so many ways with the job. Hazardous materials left in our driveway for a week. And the unhelpfulness in responding to our issues. Again, ZERO compensation or remedy was offered. I added a few pictures. We used Alpha for asbestos removal in our bathroom. Our contractor couldn't find a company to do our "small job" and left us hanging saying he was working on it but no one was available in the area. So I checked out companies and found Alpha. There were responsive, professional, and easy to communicate with. They were a bit scheduled out but due to a last minute cancellation, they were able to do our job literally the next day! While doing the job, they started working on removing the floors on both of our bathrooms even though only one had asbestos. Once we clarified the second bathroom didn't have asbestos, they proceeded with finishing removing the rest of the floor rather than leave it half finished (and didn't charge anything extra for doing so). Would gladly use them again, though I hope we don't have to. Definitely recommend them! read more

In speaking with the folks at Alpha, they were able to schedule a visit within days, performed the services as needed, and with very reasonable charges. Given that they were recommended by my realtor, I expected them to be professional, on time and do a great job. They are what I expected them to be. I had constant contact with Paul, their Septic and Drain Cleaning Department Manager, who had arranged everything for us a month in advance. We were given accurate dates and hopeful dates. The workers all showed up on time and did the job in a very timely manner. We had to connect to the city sewer line and bury our old septic tank. The workers came in on a Monday and by the end of the week, we had working sewer by the end of the week. Not only that, they went above and beyond recommending a plumber for us so we can have a gas connection to the house. They contact NW Natural for us, got a gas meter installed for us and they also found a plumber for us so we can have gas connection throughout the house. I am pretty impressed and the level of professionalism shown by these guys. I think the only downside is that given that there are shortage of people doing these type of work, their schedule may be a little bit far out and their communication can sometimes lag. They will always get back to you but maybe not in the time period you expected because they are incredibly busy. I will recommend them for any future jobs. read more

Great experience working with Alpha to assess my homes' air quality and the possibility of radon. The radon test showed levels over 3 times the maximum level considered unhealthy. I had Alpha install a radon mitigation system and it has dropped the radon level well into the safe zone. Communication from the Alpha staff was fantastic, techs were always on time, work was good quality, and everyone I interacted with were friendly and professional. It is terrifying to think about what might be found and what might be entailed in its removal and cleanup. Alpha Environmental was requested to perform a sewer scope on a house we are buying in the Raleigh Hills area. The homeowner led Carlos, the technician, to what she thought was the sewer line but she mentioned she wasn't certain. He asked her to run water in the house and then he began the sewer scope. After the scope was complete, he quoted over $8,000 in repairs due to root protrusions, offsets, and pooling. We were all very concerned about these invasive and costly repairs that would require extreme excavation, rerouting the sewer line, etc. so we decided to get a second opinion. A few days later, Environmental Works came out to do another sewer scope and determined that Alpha had SCOPED THE WRONG PIPE!! Alpha had scoped the STORM DRAIN instead of the sewer line. When Alpha was there, it was a rainy day and I think that Carlos just assumed the water in the pipe was coming from the house; when it was in fact just rainwater. After Environmental Works scoped the correct sewer line, it was determined that no repairs were needed. We were all relieved but very concerned that Alpha could make such an epic mistake. Especially after learning that a simple call to Clear Water Services provided us with a detailed map of exactly where the sewer lines vs the storm drains are in our area. Very disappointing. I called Alpha to inform them of their error and requested a refund. They apologized and agreed to issue a refund; however, the sewer scope was $150 and they only refunded $75. If you're buying a home and want your sewer scope done correctly, I recommend using Environmental Works. read more

I live in Silverton and was pleased to find out that Alpha has an office in Stayton so they service the mid-Willamette Valley. In searching for radon mitigation companies, I received a competitive online bid without site visit from Alpha and called to initiate the agreement and work. Communication, site visit, scheduling, and the installation was a snap with Zachary, the Salem Branch Manager, who was personally involved with the work. This included a specific installation through central conduit for my HVAC and not involving additional piping through an exterior wall and up the side of the house. I reduced my radon from 7.8 PiC/L to 0.5 according to their testing and my own verification using an Airthings Corentium. Very friendly and compent seeming technicians. However I was not given accurate information on the phone regarding the scope and cost of service. I ordered a sewer scope and locate, assuming the basement lines would be fully located. I was quoted a price of $100 for the job. I had to call them back to locate two basement branch lines. They could not trace one line, traced the other 15 foot line, and charged me an extra $50. I paid by credit card. The emailed statement showed a balance owed of $175 for a radon test that had not yet been performed. Should have been a simple set of interactions, unfortunately, it was neither simple nor satisfactory. read more

Next day a guy came out unannounced and gave me an obvious lie about how he was asked to come out and recheck. Alpha decommissioned my HOT in April of 2018. They answered any question I had about the service and were up front with what the costs could be with the decommissioning process. I was desperate for a plumber on Saturday afternoon due to a major plumbing issue from my main line. I called 25-30 plumbers (most who advertise on their websites that they offer 24/7 emergency service), and got voice mail for all of them. I left messages and no call backs. The only company that was available and responsive was Alpha. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone, assured me someone would be here shortly. Matt came right over at 7:30pm and worked very hard to clear out the problem. I have been very disappointed in Alpha. We sold our House and the buyer used Alpha for our sewer inspection. They did not know where our clean out was, so without our permission the technician got on top of our roof not knowing that we have a metal roof which dents very easily. They failed our sewer line saying that we had root intrusion, two obstructions and deteriorating pipes. They of course bid the repair for more than $10k. I had another sewer company come out and re-scope and their findings were we had no root intrusion, no obstructions, and only average deterioration with the pipes still being completely fine. I wasn't sure who to believe so I called out a third company and they confirmed that our sewer line had no issues. (I of course had to pay for both of those companies to come scope my sewer line.) To Alpha's credit, they did retract their original assessment but the damage was already done and they did not offer to reimburse me for having to have 2 other companies come out. I hope the buyer at least received a refund. Moral of the story, if they fail your sewer line, get a second opinion. BlackRock Underground did my second scope and they were awesome. read more

They also upsold me on the testing I needed and I later found out I could have had all the required testing done for about 20% of their cost. The icing on the cake was receiving a huge run around from their accounting department. Definitely recommend using another company, there are lots of options out there. read more

Zachary and his crew at ALPHA did an outstanding job on our oil decommissioning project. Our tank had leaked and needed to have the contaminated soil removed from the site. We were having nightmares about how much our brick back patio and concrete/brick steps would have to be destroyed as the tank sat right under our stairs. To say the least it was a major job and the crew keep as much of our existing patio and landing in tack so we would not have to do any more rebuild than necessary. Any questions we had of Zachary were always addressed very quickly and professionally. The crew that performed the actual job on site was always polite, hardworking and professional. I really appreciated that they got me an estimate in just a couple of days....so I could get the project completed. I got another bid a week later from another company and when I let them know, Alpha offered to "meet" their competitors price.
