I'd been experiencing pain for about six months before finally making an appointment so didn't expect all of the damage I'd done to be erased in one visit. Jenn asked a lot of questions and got to work. At first I saw Jenn every few weeks. She has used a combination of deep tissue massage, cupping, medi-cupping and has also used a variety of CBD lotions dependent on my pain levels. I really appreciate not only Jenn's abilities as a talented massage therapist, I have also gained so much knowledge from her on other holistic approaches to my healing: stretches and herbal remedies being only a few. Every appointment starts with a discussion about any issues I've had....and lots of times I just tell her to find the areas that seem tight...it really is amazing how she can find the spots to make other parts of my body feel better! Jenn is incredibly dedicated to her business and clients and I appreciate that she is willing to go above and beyond when we discuss issues I experience and how I can supplement my massages. Although I haven't taken advantage of some of the other offerings at Modality, I think that her addition of other treatment methods shows her dedication to providing options for anyone. When entering the lobby, I was greeted by a friendly, lonely checkin girl. I was a little surprised by the minimalistic, cold concrete environment. Usually most spas are warm and calming. This location had cold concrete floors and a hard wooden bench to sit and wait. However, once you went into the massage area, it was soft lighting and a unique spa area without your typical rooms, rather they were canvas dividers. This provided visual privacy but was limited on audible privacy. I could hear those in the adjacent area. They did have a nice ocean sound machine instead of the typical spa music. I kind of liked it. As for the massage, I felt listened during the initial consultation. I wanted a firm deep tissue massage. My therapist did a great job at checking on the pressure and overall pleasure of the experience. I will definitely do the 80 minutes massage next time. I went with the 50 min for my initial experience since I have been having so much bad luck with horrible massages. I liked this massage enough that I would enjoy a longer session next time. Overall my experience was very positive. I didn't sign up for a membership because I'd like a few more experiences with this spot before committing to more regular sessions. Plus, I feel they are a little overpriced compared to other places, especially when they up charge the deep tissue massage.

The sheets and blankets are a little thin and scratchy, but my masseuse (a small Asian woman) was still able to dig deep into knots, using hot stones midway through. I took away one star for the fact that she had me uncovered for a good portion of the massage and I was COLD, and she was a little skimpy on oil/lotion so there was a lot of pulling on my skin; however my partner did not experience these issues. It might've been partly my fault for not speaking up when I was bothered. 60 min massage was $60; using credit card added tax $4.50 (but not if you use cash), but it was worth the convenience of not having to search out an ATM. Despite the slight discomforts, the massage did more than a "medical massage" I got the week prior. We'll probably come back next time we're in town and in need of massage.
