Blow away The…read moreDomizil is my personal "Hotel of the year - and I have my share of hotels through my travels: It's a relatively small, family run hotel next to Erfurt's dome and citadel at the heart of Erfurts astonishing historic old city center. The rooms within the old building (17th century) are just recently renovated and have been tastefully but functionally furnitured: while it's nice the business traveller finds a desk to work and a comfortable chair. The TV in the room is actually a set you could think of having at home, lacking the annoying hotel TV services. Given all that, what actually blew me away was the great service: the owner herself, a very nice lady, takes care of the customers and insisted in my case to provide a breakfast (eggs, bread, cheese, ham, cappuccino, orange juice ...) at 5:30 in the morning. I tried to talk her out of it, she insisted, it gave me a great start. Their tag line "historic modern" can be extended to "historic, modern, home" - as Domizil (Latin for little home) suggests. I stayed at RE4 Hostel and I'm here to tell you, it was ONE OF THE GREATEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE. Talk about a great place. The people that work there, the food, the place itself, just awesome. I wanna take all my family members there and take over the place. The people that work thee, so friendly and nice...OMG!! What a great experience. And the people staying there, just great people. The travelers!! Great! So nice and really hip. I loved it. I really love German people! Everybody was so nice to me. Really wanna go back. And while I'm out here, I would like to take this time to apologize to all of Germany.......FOR DONALD TRUMP!! HE IS WORSE THAN G W BUSH!!!! AMERICA IS TURNING INTO A TURD POOL!!!

They cater for all types of guest, from the ones who want to travel and stay as cheap as possible, to those like myself who prefer hotel quality but Hostel prices. I stayed in a double room with a shared bath room with one other room, as well we had our own kitchen to use. The reception staff were very friendly and keep the recpetion maned up until 22:00, when the hostel closes for the night, but with a back door for guest you can come and go as you please. I found this place to be very clean and mostly quite all the time, the only time i heard noise was when a big group of people moved through the building. All in all a very posative experence.

I e-mailed the owner (who was the wife half of the couple [we never saw the husband when we were there]) and she responded soon & pleasantly - although her English wasn't good and I needed clarification about something, to which she promptly responded. A few months later - when we were getting close to departing for Germany - I had some other questions and I e-mailed her, but I never received a response. After waiting two days, I called Booking.com - and the (pleasant) person called the owner, who said she'd never received my e-mail (although I'd received my bcc copy immediately). I then resent the e-mail while we were both on the phone with the person from Booking.com and she said she still didn't receive it. I sent it yet again and that time she received it. She responded promptly - but she didn't answer one of the important questions, and her English was almost unintelligible re: my other question. I responded and explained the situation, but she never responded. After waiting two days, it was then just one day before our departure for Germany (six days before our arrival in Weimar) and I wanted Booking.com to resolve the problem - so I called them and a (NOT-so-pleasant) person called the B&B. She then told me a man had answered (presumably he was the husband), and he told her (very UNpleasantly) that he didn't speak English. She then connected me to a colleague who was fluent in German and that woman called the B&B. The man answered again - and when the woman from Booking.com began explaining the situation, he HUNG UP ON HER. The wife NEVER responded to my e-mail, so I decided it was hopeless to try e-mailing her again. Meanwhile, we arrived yesterday at the planned-on time (in late morning) - and she never mentioned my e-mails or her husband, and neither did I. Initially she was quite brusque (which certainly didn't surprise me). We left our luggage and quickly returned to the train station (via taxi), as planned - and later we returned after an early dinner. Upon our return, another (German) couple were talking to her outside and we joined the conversation. They were fluent in English & were very friendly, and the proprietor was very impressed that I speak some German ("easy conversation" level only) without having studied it. Between that and the other couple's friendliness, the proprietor's coldness completely melted and she became very friendly. We stayed in what was actually a suite, although the bathroom was across the hall (but it wasn't a shared bathroom). We knew in advance that there wasn't any shampoo (I'd asked), but strangely there was no soap in the shower. The shower was also an incredibly constricted space (seriously, you can't be real heavy and use it) and there's a sort of step up into it. The mattress was o.k. and the place was very quiet, plus the rooms & bathroom were very clean. WiFi and breakfast were included in the price of 72 euros (the WiFi connection was fine), and the breakfast was nicely laid out on a sideboard (buffet style) at the appointed time. It wasn't lavish, but it was tasty and the coffee was very good. The breakfast room is a good size (we were the only ones eating at that time) and it's filled with plants & has a skylight. One other thing: there's a long/steep set of stairs leading up from the street and a lot of stairs to the second floor rooms (although the proprietor carried our large/heavy piece of luggage for us when we arrived).

This hostel's major strength is that it's cheap. The hostel was overbooked when I stayed there…read morewith a group. You're forced to use an antiquated pay-for-internet-time system that works sporadically at best. The rooms are small. Showers are on a short timer. And, during a stay with a group, the hostel screwed up the reservation with no apology. If fact, the approach of the staff and the manager is that they're doing a favor by just being there. Maybe it works for Germans familiar with such an attitude. But if you're a foreigner be very wary of this place or at least be prepared to be insulted. There are alternative lodgings in Erfurt and Weimar. I would urge you to consider them.

Location in Goetheplatz is as convenient as it gets for exploring; definitely ask the folks working the desk for recommendations in Weimar (you'll get more options than you can choose from). Guests were of all ages, with various interests, and from all around the world/Germany. Beer and breakfast are inexpensive, and the coffee is always free! If you're torn between staying here and somewhere else, I'll make it easy for you - stay here!

The receptionists were very warm-hearted and accommodating and always available to answer questions. There's a lovely garden space with a friendly neighborhood cat. A very convenient location in the center of Weimar; all the buses stop right in front of the hostel and it's an easy walk to the train and Flixbus stations. There was a very sweet feeling of community that made Labyrinth a home away from home for the three weeks of my stay.

Loved this hotel! We…read morehad a great view of the train station and the square in front of it. It was a bit noisy given the location of our room, but all in all, it was fine. The bathroom, albeit outdated, was very clean. Downstairs is a huge lobby with a piano. The restaurant is wonderful. I ate there twice and both meals surpassed my expectations and were reasonably priced for such an experience. Customer service was great. This would be the hotel of my choice when in Weimar.
