A hole in the wall shop in the middle of Alpha. Walked in for a quick solid bite, left wanting to go back. The staff was friendly, and it seemed like a local gem. We sat down and it felt empty at first, then you blink and the place was packed. Seemed like the popular local lunch/dinner spot. Tons of menu options, great food and a home-cooked meal feel. So the 5 years I have been living in the area with my girlfriend. We have always ordered online. This is the first time we actually sat in there to eat. Just like the customer service when I pick up my food is amazing. Our server was amazing. Jist a great, friendly environment to enjoy good food. Usually, we order a large pie or personal pizzas. Bit I ordered the baked gnocchi and she got a chicken sandwich. The food was delicious. We didn't wait long at all for it. Hot and tasty. We could not have been more satisfied. read more

1) ordered garlic knots, sausage and peppers and fried onions, sandwich, cheese burger, and club sandwich. Garlic knots were ok. Hardly any butter barely cooked on bottom. I was basically eating bread with butter. The sausage and pepper sandwich was eh. The fried peppers and onions were just diced and not fried. The sausage wasnt even a whole piece just sliced. Makes for messy eating. When you bit the sandwich, the peppers and onions went everywhere. The cheeseburger was average. The only good thing was the club sandwich. This restaurant has always been good but not recently. IDK what happened but the quality has diminished greatly. Mushy "bready " eggplant, lasagna was mushy as well . No flavor or texture. I tried this place a few days ago with my parents, because the Mexican restaurant down the street we usually go to is closed on Mondays. WOW. I can't believe how good it was. I had the veggie Stromboli (big enough for two people, maybe even three), and it was definitely the best I've ever had in the area. The pastry was crisp and flavorful, the veggies were fresh, and the cheese were delicious. The atmosphere is indicative of what I found traveling through rustic Tuscany. The service, although at times oblivious to my water level, was very sweet and courteous. The food is what I would go back to and what I will reccomend to peers. Often, food (especially italian) this cheap is superficial, with little actual substance in terms of flavor. This pasta was full and at times vivacious in how the flavors corroborate to provide a unique mid Atlantic Italian flavor. We've been going to this place for years. Staff is friendly, place is kept clean. They are very busy Friday and Saturday nights and most lunchtimes. Prices are VERY reasonable for this area. Disclaimer--I was brought up in a Sicilian-American household by a mother and grandmother who were superb cooks. As a result, I am very picky about the quality of "Italian" food. My pet peeve is tomato sauce. I have only encountered one restaurant that ever offered a sauce that was as good as what my mother and grandmother made. What I think of as mediocre or even poor would probably be considered good to excellent by most other people--so please keep that in mind when reading my comments below. Alpha Pizza and Subs' food is OK. There are many other places around that are worse, and maybe a few that are slightly better. Pizza is typical for the area. Not outstanding, not bad. Their sauce is typical pizza joint sauce and is IMHO the weakest part of their whole operation. I am not sure if they even make it on site. Sometimes in the past it was so heavy with oregano it had a medicinal taste, but I haven't noticed that lately--maybe it is something they fixed. Their cold subs are very good--unlike many sub joints, they don't use a ton of meat and cheeses, but IMHO, that is a good thing. Putting a ton of stuff on a cold sub just overwhelms the tastebuds--Alpha Pizza and Sub puts just the right amount and combination of meat and cheeses on their subs to make them very tasty. Having said that, I haven't ordered one of their cold subs with vinegar and oil in many, many years--they always used WAY too much vinegar, or at least they used to. I just get mine with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions and what they call "hot peppers" (really pickled pepperoncini)--the "hot peppers" add just enough acid to really make the sandwich "POP". The other nice thing is they always heat the roll up in the oven before assembling the sub, so it is nice and warm and crispy on the outside--that makes a big difference IMHO. Their warm subs are let down by the mediocre sauce, but are otherwise good. As another reviewer mentioned, their garlic knots are very good. Their salads are OK, nothing outstanding, but quite edible. Once I got their pasta fazool and it was very good--not sure of it is a regular menu item. Never had any of their other pastas or soups so can't comment on them. Even though this is less than a wonderful review, I have to add that we have been going to them for years and they are our "go to" place for cold subs, pizza and calzones (which are very good). They are friendly, fast, reliable, inexpensive, and their food is decent. All in all, a pretty good place for this area. read more

Sandwiches and meals are always fresh and delicious. Staff is always friendly. Dining area always clean. She changed the prices on the menu and when we ordered, we apparently had an "old menu" and when she rang it up, I said oh it's this price... and she said our prices have changed. Pizza is mostly cheese with little dough and sauce. And is more expensive than other pizza places around. I don't care for them and it is really annoying when they close Sunday's. I always recommend a different place either Francesco's or franks. read more

Their subs and wings are our fav (bread they use is awesome) and the pizza is better than anyones around. Was very unhappy with our visit to Alpha Sub shop. The pizza maker was on his cell phone the whole time. That is such a dirty thing. He did not wash his hands after using it. Then the workers were eating over the food prep area. Which is also a gross thing. Will not be going back. This is great family owned restaurant. The food is tasty and the atmosphere is peaceful. The staff is so nice and well trained. It gets full quickly during dinner time but they are able to handle big crowds. I recommend the spaghetti dinner, and all the sandwiches and sure the Pizza is good! read more
