Susan Millican is a fraud.. I hired her as a divorce lawyer for a flat fee of $3,000.00 She told me after the 2nd meeting with me, "I didn't get a chance to look over your case so we will just wing it." It was too late to hire a new lawyer since I had no money to hire someone else. I was heartbroken and scared.. she took advantage of this.. She then met with me and my soon to be x and told me that I should go back to school to earn money like the rest of us. She never had a conversation with me about my background or my life. I got a a horrible agreement from my x of alimony for only 3 1/2 years. She never informed me of my rights to alimony that could of been longer than my marriage that lasted almost 10 years. I helped support my x in his career as a housewife. She then lied to my face about the fact that I owed her more money than the flat fee of $3,000. Months after my divorce I received a bill for over $7,000.0 keep looking folks.. this one's a big loser.. also... look at how she treats her staff.. that's a good clue.. Susan is not a reliable or trustworthy lawyer if you are interested in working with her. She is only interested in making money and is not worth your time folks! Think twice before you even make any agreement with her. I paid my fee with her and she lied to my face about how much money I owed her. I complained to the bar association and had a hearing and still lost. Not what I planned when I got divorced. She also never informed me about my rights during the divorce and I got a bad settlement and alimony. stupid indeed. read more

Catherine Victornio is a very proficient attorney, but she has genuine empathy for her clients. In my opinion, this makes her push herself harder to get the desired outcome. This is exactly what she did for me, including following up after the case had concluded to check that I was doing well. From my initial contact with Cate, it was obvious that she was already well versed in everything it was going to take to get my divorce taken care of. To say she was conscientious and caring would be an understatement. We had to work together long distance, and her whole staff worked collectively to make certain all documents, signatures, and anything necessary was processed accurately and timely. Every question I asked, they already had answered. My entire experience with the team felt more like they were friends or family who were taking care of me rather that a group of people I had not met shuffling papers. Because of the tight timeframe we had to work together, I sent way too emails and documentation and called more that I should have. Cate was always reassuring and managed to sift through mountains of documents to get just what the court needed. Her tasks would have probably been simpler without my impediment, but she got through all that with grace, dignity and won. Make a note of that - she won what I had been told was a losing battle. Cate's knowledge of the law and the legal system in general is second to none. She easily recognized when the opposing side was up to no good and quickly walked away and strengthened our position. She labored under difficult circumstances and a shortened time frame to achieve the very best outcome for me - exactly the outcome I needed. Her expertise notwithstanding, it was her caring and understanding that really helped me get through this ordeal. The entire team made me feel comforted, confident and assured. I am aware of how many late nights Cate worked hard for me and worked hard to keep me at ease. Cate continuously made me aware of what to expect and what the possibilities might be, I was never in the dark about the process. I retained attorney David Goodwin and paralegal Johnna Hall from this firm to represent me during my divorce, and I was very pleased with the service provided to me. Fortunately my divorce was an uncontested and largely amicable one with a minimum of hiccups, but nonetheless it gave me peace of mind to engage an attorney to make sure everything was done the way it is supposed to be, and that I was protected. (1) It is obvious that Attorney Goodwin understands divorce law and process inside out. He and Johnna ensured that all paperwork and filings were done correctly and in a timely fashion, and that I understood the process. (2) The firm is very clear and up-front about billing policies and practices. Biweekly billing statements provide a high level of detail on the time billed (e.g. "0.2 hours to reply to client email on topic of X"). I was able to complete my divorce for the amount of my initial retainer plus a little bit more. I consider the amount I spent to be fair, and was impressed that certain specific tasks took less time than I might have imagined. (3) The office itself is conveniently located in downtown Redmond and is a modern, pleasant, professional-looking place, with a friendly and helpful administrative/ reception staff. (4) David and Johnna always very quick to respond to queries, and were always able to have meetings or phone calls with me on a same day/ next day basis. (5) While David advised me that there might be an opportunity for me to "get more" out of a settlement with wife (which would likely mean more revenue for the firm because my wife would be less likely to agree to such a settlement and hence it would need to go through the mediation and court process, with the billable hours ticking), I never felt pressure, and instead had the feeling that he was advising me primarily for my own benefit and understanding. (6) David is also sensitive to the fact that divorce is a difficult matter, and has a way about him that makes interaction with him pleasant and even mildly enjoyable despite the inherent unpleasantness of divorce. (7) David accompanied me to Court for the final dissolution, and went through the motions and procedures at the courthouse as though he could do it in his sleep. The one thing about working with law firms that may be foreign to those who do not have a history of working with lawyers is the concept of billable hours. Those of us who work or have worked in certain professional services firms might be accustomed to client engagement models where a scope of work is defined, and a fixed price is established, and the provider does what is needed, within reason, to "get the job done". That's not how lawyers work. I do not fault O'Brian & Associates for using that model, because it's standard and it's just the way the profession operates. But just be forewarned. If anything, it may serve to create discipline in how you write, and how often you write, emails or make phone calls. Be brief, to-the-point, and "save up" issues if at all possible to put them all in one communication. Overall, I was very impressed with my experience with O'Brian & Associates and would unequivocally recommend the firm for anyone who has family law matters. read more

I have used O'Brian and Associates for years. I highly recommend them. During the last year I have been "working" with my Ex to change primary custody from her to myself. It was a very difficult case and ended up going to trial. I could not afford to hire an attorney full time for my case. Representing myself, I worked closely with attorney Lisa Do to determine path forward and she helped clarified procedures and gave feedback on my approaches in court. The process took over 1 year and she was with me every step of the way. She really balanced my need for information, cost and gave a "shoulder" to cry on when I wanted to throw in the towel. My experience was not pleasant and would not reccomend this lawyer or Billie Grissom to anyone looking for an honest lawyer to represent you. When inital contact was made to hire a lawyer for a possible allimony revision I asked specifically on the phone for Susan Millican O'brian to be my attorney opon arrival to thier office both Billie Grisson and Susan Millican O'brian were present to review my possibly reduction in allimoney. I was told this was a clear cut case for reduction and they both were very eager the outcome would be in my favor.They made me very excited to proceed. I was emailed by Billie Grisson and it seemed she was the one who was going to represent me not Susan Millican O'brian like I had asked for however I thought highly of Billie and her skills from this inital consulatation and went with her to proceed. However after back and fourth emailing and calling her found this positive attitude on my case being favorable not as favorable as they both had claimed from the start and let me to believe it seemed more money was all she was interested in. I paided another attorney to review my case as I felt uneasy to proceed as they wanted alot of money to further thier investigation of my case. The other attorney made it clear I need alot more history of my lower income to come out favorable and advised me not to go to coourt yet. I found this other attorney's experience in dealing with these types of cases otherwise refreshing as she was not out to soak me for cash for promises she could not make. I was mislead by Susan and Billie from the start. They were more interested in getting thier retainer fee. Now they are asking for the small balance due. I was told this was a cut and dry easily won case and they were very excited about my outcome on this. They needed to research this case? Do not lead people on with high hopes of winning unless you are sure and be upfront with people when they come in for thier consult this is way I see it. I wasted alot of money for something I was not provided with but high hopes and again I initally asked for Susan to be my attorney. I would not reccomend this practice to anyone! read more
