Great place to stay when you are passing through Davis, WV. The management was very friendly and accomodating!

Let me start off by saying that the receptionist girl was amazing and super sweet. She deserves 5 stars. But, the room hasn't been cleaned properly since the 80s and there was a blood stain on my blanket. The tv didn't work and for the price it was just really yucky. Maybe the price just bothers me cause I'm from out of state and don't know hotel prices over here but I've gotten cleaner at this price. It wasn't the WORST ever but I sure won't be coming again. read more

Wonderful Valentine's Day dinner last night. Excellent mushroom soup fried oysters, surf and turf. Huge lobster tail all in all. We really enjoyed it. The ambience is perfect for a mountain Lodge, great display of old earth and ware pots and pans. Beautiful wood carvings on the wall will go back. read more

BED BUGS and MICE WARNING ! We booked for 2 days but end up staying only one because I woke up with several bites! There were BED BUGS in the bed!!! They don't even have a cover mattress to prevent bed bugs infection. Moreover there were mice in the wall that we heard the whole night! We even saw their shadows in the morning behind the air conditioner. This hotel is more expensive that it should be! Terrible old hotel that needs some renovation and cleaning! Dirty carpet that haven't been cleaned properly for decades! No blanket in the bed, only one sheet during winter! Avoid this hotel! read more

Update---Stayed there again due to fact it is convenient if you are on two wheels...you can walk to restaurants. This place would be a lot better if they would just clean the exterior, sweep the halls, clean the doors, and generally show more attention to the place. Parking lot is in need of repair. Bathroom was clean. Small refrigerator is in an awkward spot. You have get past any clothes you hung on the exposed rack. Wall A/C unit is an antique. TV was not mounted correctly and faced at a down angle! How could they not see they had the mount bracket wrong side up? read more

We spent our Honeymoon there 49 years ago. my wife had to have surgery done, so I couldn't take her to Niagra, hopefully, one day !! Possibility on our 50th we'll see. so we stayed here on our wedding night and 49 years later this was where I wanted to take her !!! I read reviews that it's "dated" well so what I'm "dated" too !!! A family member told us about the Alpine Lodge, and suggested we try it out. WOW!! My husband made reservations to stay at the Lodge, and for dinner in the restaurant. The room was newly redecorated and was great fun! The theme was a fisherman's room, with lots of interesting themed memorabilia. We were very comfortable, and recommend staying there! The food was truly amazing! My husband ordered the Steak au Poivre, and I had the Seared Scallops. Both were delicious, and we would order them again! For an appetizer, we shared one of the Lodge's famous Crab Cakes. Indeed, it was the best I've ever had, and that includes many upscale restaurants. For dessert, we shared a Crème Brulée. Okay, so this is my favorite dessert, hands down. If it's on the menu, I order it, and rarely share! The gold standard was found at Tu Tu Bene's (now closed) in St. Croix. Not any more! Chef John prepared a Crème Brulée that was so delicious it brought tears to my eyes! We were treated very well, and our server was great! Are we going back to the Alpine Lodge? Yes! And the sooner, the better! read more

First the positive, the lady at the front desk was a sweetheart. If smoking bothers you don't stay here, horrible Smokey rooms, although non-smoking don't be fooled. Carpet is grossly greasy stained, the furniture is broke with stained cushions. Radiator heat that has no controls, so winter is hot for sleeping. The mattress sunk into a hole that felt like you were falling. The people staying above us kept us up to midnight doing their rendition of the Geico commercial of the cloggers. The bathroom was okay and the sheets were clean. Accept for a bloodstain on the comforter. read more

This was the only place that wasn't booked during MLK weekend and it was cheap so we stayed there. We got the unlucky pick of the rooms, I guess, because our "non-smoking" room reeked of smoke and I have asthma so I couldn't breathe the whole weekend. We asked if there were any other rooms available, but only smoking rooms were left. HA. To top it off, there was an animal crawling around in the wall behind the AC unit that was constantly making noise. We were always afraid it was going to crawl its way out through the vent. Bed and pillows were just awful, but at least if I put my head under the covers, I got a break from the cigarette smell. Would never stay here again. read more

The bathroom was clean, that's about it. When I arrived in my room I called the front desk to say that the heat wasn't working. She said to turn the dial to the bottom, it will take a little while for the heat to come through. I waited about an hour, I looked inside with a flashlight and the mechanism was broken. I called the office again and there was no answer. It was 24° out and I spent a pretty miserable night there. Also, the mini fridge made constant noise throughout the night. In the morning I was tired, upset and quite angry.I did manage to get a full refund from them. read more

Barely 3 stars. Other reviews have covered the details well. A step back in time, check. Surprisingly good wifi and TV channel selection, check. 2 minutes from good restaurants, check, inexpensive, check. The attached Sawmill, like most "home cooking" restaurants, had mediocre food, but the atmosphere was great; I'd go back just for that. The front office has a good supply of maps for hikers. Though it has it's charms, Davis is a town that is badly in need of some new construction, but it sits on the edge of Blackwater Falls Park - full of wonder! read more

Ok, did I somehow get transported back to the 1960's? This place is so cute in a vintage, kitschy way. It's not even trying to be posh. I like that, though. Our room was clean, cozy, and all we really needed to crash after a long day of hiking around the canyon. Modern-day bonus-- free wifi! The hotel restaurant, The Sawmill, is pretty good for breakfast, so that's a plus. read more

Stayed in a smoke room. Smelled like smoke. Still even in a smoke free room they have low rated motel quality.

Great little lodge to lay your head down at. Very convenient, next to the Sawmill Restaurant and walking distance to shops and restaurants. I would def stay here again as it was clean, quiet, and very reasonable price wise. read more

We came into town on Columbus Day weekend not realizing it started on Thursday night and did not have reservations. Shop owner in area recommended Alpine Lodge. When we showed up at the office we were greeted by Denise. She had a room available for us for two nights, we got the senior discount and a warm hug. Room was older BUT spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed, refrig, AC, free WiFi and was very quiet at night for sleeping and smoke-free. It reminded us of lodges/hotels in New York's Adirondack Mountains. The Sawmill restaurant attached to the lodge was convenient with good reasonable food. Close to Canaan Valley and Blackwater State Parks. I would not hesitate to recommend the Alpine Lodge to travelers. read more
