I cannot for the life of me figure out why this shop has so many negative reviews. I avoided going here at first because of all the negative reviews, but I can genuinely say this shop is by far the best out of the three I visited shopping around for boots. I came in to get fitted for a pair of snowboarding boots, and was honestly blown away by the attention to detail and how knowledgeable the staff was. They not only took the time to measure and adjust my boots in a ton of different ways, but also explained what they were doing in each step and checked in to see what I was looking for in a boot. The boots themselves are awesome and by far the most comfortable I've ever worn (mainly due to the fitting and molding process they do). The guy helping me out (ask for Austin, he was awesome), even went above and beyond in answering questions about the process and helping me set my new board and bindings up. This review went long, but overall a quality shop with kind, knowledgeable employees. TLDR: great shop, quality merchandise, and superb staff. The people complaining about appointments or prices for the fittings must not have actually gotten work done here, cause it's 1000% worth it. read more

After waiting (in vain) for over 2 years to have even a single positive experience at this shop, I'm finally ready to give up completely and post a review. To preface, all of my local friends (recreational skiers, competitive skiers, ski shop owners/employees, backcountry/hut trippers, guides, lifties, etc) all told me to avoid Alpine because the owner is hard to deal with and will take every opportunity to rub his ego all in your face. But I was determined to try them out and hopefully get a relationship with the local shop. Bad mistake. In short, I've endured: 1) wrong holes drilled in my skis during binding 2) wrong size ski boots sold to me (my first pair, I didnt know to walk away yet, confirmed by 2 other shop owners) 3) having blame thrown in my face for wrong work being done on my gear and had to produce receipts to prove they did the wrong work. 4) countless demeaning interactions with the owner. 5) missed ski trips due to delays in scheduled work on my gear set up far in advance. 6) dishonesty regarding price matching 7) incorrect custom sole fitting (returned the garbage soles to store not even wanting refund) Even some employees, when the owner isnt around, will roll their eyes and vent about how pompous and unmoving the owner is. I've been warned writing a negative review for this shop will mean I wont be able to get waxed or etc here anymore since the owner is such a spiteful person, but truthfully all of my friends and i now do our own waxing and work since dealing with this owner and shop has become such a painful and terrible ordeal. We are all hoping a decent shop/shop owner will come here to help the local ski community but alpine is definitely not it. read more

Bought a pair of Oakley goggles, the associate didn't remove the security device before boxing them up. Bought a pair of sunglasses too and the arm broke off before I even wore them the next day. The associate was rather rude, real lack of urgency or care. Seemed more bothered to have to help a customer out. Overall just a poor experience. read more

Wife and I recently got back into skiing and wanted to introduce our daughters into skiing. They loved it! We are on a limited budget so we've been buying some used gear in good condition. We've had trouble finding decent boots for me and skis for my wife so we thought about "biting the bullet" and purchasing new gear. An older gentleman rudely greeted us and was extremely condescending!!! Made us feel like low class dirt bags! We were ready to lay down some coin but his attitude turned us off immediately. No prices on any of their merchandise which is so wrong. He gave me a lecture about a 3 hour boot fitting and then he'd let me know what boots they would let me purchase. Great place to get last minute ski clothing . . . . and to rent the skis or snowboard to go with them! Or, even better, to get your own skis & snowboards. This little shop is one of the top rated ski & winter equipment shops in the country. . . and in New Mexico. The employees here are experts. They will help you make the correct purchases and will not sell you stuff you don't need. A new concept, I know. And they can fix anything - ski tech experts! Need a new binding? Wax on those old skis? Larger boots on the old skis? They can make it all happen and then you are off to the slopes! Santa Fe Ski Basin is just 20 minutes up the mountain! Their website has all the current ski conditions - snow reports, 10-day weather reports for all your favorite resorts! www.alpinesports-santafe.com Hidden away at the back of a bank building, but worth the effort of locating it. Limited parking and a small lot shared with the bank. Loss of one star based solely on this lot. Been hit and have nearly hit others while trying to juggle skis and cars. Takes some juggling with the bank customers. It's only a hop, skip and jump from the Plaza and several downtown hotels, so walk on over if you are downtown. And even if you don't ski, snowboard or do any winter sports at all, this is still a great place to get beautiful winter sweaters, hats & gloves. This place sucks! Everyone in their has an attitude and doesn't have time to care to you. Probably could have sold me some 500 dollar boots but didn't want to take the time. So instead I decided to just drive up to Taos. I went to the Taos boot doctor and they were the complete opposite, they were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Unlike alpine I gave them a five star review. Wish the old owners of alpine were still there. Ignore all the good reviews they were probably made by friends, family and employees of the shop. If your gonna spend money on boots and have them fitted nicely just go up to Taos. read more

I took my boots here to be fitted in early November (I have a tailor's bunion). They held onto my boots for 2 weeks. When I finally picked them up there was no noticeable difference to them. I had to ask and was offered a "free" heating and fitting of the linings. I was charged $80. I landed up taking my boots to Boot Doctors at TSV (as many people had originally recommend that I do). read more

I just love this place. They are a gold medal winning ski shop from ski magazine. Anything you need for skiing, snowboarding, sledding & X country they have got you covered. I got some new skis for Christmas and needed to have my bindings mounted. I took the skis in right after they opened. They told me it would take 24 hours when I explained that I needed them sooner they asked how soon. When I told them by the end of the day he promised to have them by 4pm. Good customer service. Shortly after lunch they called and said that my skis were ready. Fantastic, under promise and over deliver! These guys understand great customer service! They deserve your business you will not be disappointed. read more

Very pleased with Alpine Sports. Service and staff have been excellent from start to finish. They patiently sat through the process with me last winter when i was looking to get a full snowboarding set-up; willing to listen to my needs and respond with great suggestions. Not at all bothered to take the time it took to identify the best fit. I left with a fantastic board and spent the season shredding better than i ever have before. good gear DOES make a difference. Likewise- when my boots proved to be defective, Jack and staff were super accommodating and got me a new pair through the RIDE/factory warranty without dropping the ball or complaining about the extra effort (i had moved back to the east coast, the entire process required more time and energy). New boots arrived today and the snow is only weeks away and I'm psyched. Thank you Alpine Sports for your dedication and fantastic customer service. read more

Great staff makes a huge difference, they also had exactly what we needed even though summer had long past...missed packing our sun hats and a good sun hat is something you need in a place with 300 days of sunshine. Stopped in here the other day on the off chance that they would have snowshoeing poles for a reasonable price. I'd ordered some online initially for $39 but they were out of stock so my order was cancelled, and I was going snowshoeing up a huge hill that weekend so needed poles quickly. They were friendly, helpful and had exactly what I needed for $40 - this is a great deal, a lot of the poles I was looking (at REI) had started around $70 (and I'm not good enough to justify that investment yet). I checked out some coats they had on sale at the front door, but gulped at the $700 sale price...The other review about this place is accurate, they have cute-as-heck hats and other outdoor wear. I will have to come back and see if I can get a good deal on a winter coat. Nice local find, easy parking available, helpful and courteous people staffing the place. The owner is impossible to deal with. I took in a 4 year old boot and asked the owner if they carried that brand and model. He said he had an account with the manufacturer and could order the boot. I asked him to order a new pair, I would pay upfront and have them tweaked if necessary once the boots arrived at the store. I was then lectured that I had to endure a 2 hour fitting before he would order the boots. I was so irritated by the owner's condescending attitude and unwillingness to order what I wanted that I walked out. I don't know how they stay in business. read more

I've been in this store twice in the last year and both experiences were terrible. Yesterday I went in, had multiple employees look me in the eye and not only did they not greet me, but they turned away and avoided my presence altogether. Each time I've managed to get an employees attention and talk to them about getting fitted for snowboard boots, I was BARELY able to get a word in. Staff was condescending and unhelpful. I could tell they didn't want to bother letting me try anything on without signing me up for an hour long fitting where I'm sure they would pressure me to buy something. Also, they told me I could sign up for a fitting in the store rather than online - but didn't offer to help me do so. Unfortunately, Santa Fe is limited as far as ski/snowboard techs - but I will be joining many of the other reviewers who say to go to REI instead. I'd much rather spend my money "locally" than at REI, but in this case I will HAPPILY take my money somewhere that treats customers like human beings. read more

ALPINE IS TOO BOOKED TO SELL OR FIT SNOWSPORTS BOOTS UNTIL JANUARY 14, 2020, per their sales staff. I've been to Alpine about three times. I have tried my best to utilize them for my sporting goods needs. I cannot support a business where the staff and ownership are so unprofessional and rude. They lost about $600 in sales from me today. They don't need my business. I was told it would take a month to fit me in boots . I will literally drive to Christie's in Vail or Aspen or Gorsuch before I give them a penny. FYI, being a custom boot fitter does not mean you are the Neiman Marcus of Santa Fe. It means you do custom boot fittings. Grow up. read more

I went there to buy some new ski boots and I was prepared to spend a lot of money that day. My daughter and I were planning to ski at Taos the following day. A nice woman greeted me and I told her what I was looking for. She told me that both of her boot fitters had called in sick that day and that I could not buy boots because of this. She kindly explained the fitting process and how buying boots straight off the rack is a bad idea. Not a big deal, things happen. I told her that I had some new skis I wanted to use the next day so she suggested just renting boots and using my personal skis. I headed downstairs with my skis where my daughter and I found the rental shop. There was a young man and woman working and they were both helping customers. When I entered no-one said hello to anything. Not a big deal because they were both working so I didn't think anything of it. About 5 minutes went by when another man entered the rental shop, but this time he was greeted with a "hello" and "we will be with you in a moment". I failed to mention that my daughter and I are both Asian and the man that walked in was white. I do not know if this is a New Mexico thing, but I have been in this state for just over a year and I experience this all the time here. Whether or not the workers intentionally ignored me because of my race or not, that is how I perceived it. I will not buy my boots from them and I will never rent from them either. I went down the street and rented from Ski Tech where we were treated much better. read more

Don't go here! The process to rent skis makes no sense and takes forever. You have to wait in a hallway in a basement. Every 3-4 people take about an hour. They are trying to use iPads that they don't have charged and have 1-2 people helping customers. People have been waiting for hours. Would not recommend this place to rent gear. The ski shop upstairs for new equipment seems fine, but definitely don't try to rent equipment here. read more

We went to Alpine Sports on the recommendation of a friend who grew up in Santa Fe, but had not been there in years. We rented a mixture of things including a snowboard, some helmets and some ski poles. I also brought in my new skis to have bindings mounted. Our initial visit left a good impression due to the efforts of one employee, a woman named Alex who got us our gear quickly and assured me the skis could be mounted overnight. Still, the whole Ipad form-filling system was slow and finicky, and we had to redo it several times. Things changed when we returned the next morning (Alex was not there). The employees were terse with us, and when I was told that the binding mount costed $100 I was shocked (the going rate is ~$40 almost everywhere else). I was in a rush, so I decided not to make an issue of this at the time. Our impressions of Alpine Sports got worse when we returned at the end of the day to return our gear. We brought the gear to the counter and were immediately told we needed to wait in a line of 30+ people who were waiting to rent gear. When we said all we were doing was returning gear, the employee's harsh response was, "Same Line!". So we left and returned our gear the next morning. Luckily Alex was there the next morning and was able to complete the return in seconds. Having worked at a ski shop myself, I understand the stress when there is a rush of customers all at once. This is remedied by good organization and having ample employees available to help folks out. Thus, it was unfortunate to see this shop chronically understaffed with only two or three employees in the front at any given time. Apparently, since our friend last lived in Santa Fe, ownership of this store has changed, and the rental business has suffered under new management. We heard complaints from other locals that the new employees here have a reputation for bad customer service, probably a result of poor management and disorganization. read more

I used to love this place. You could go in and chat with anyone/everyone there about skis and gear. Nowadays, not so much. I bought a new pair of skis/bindings there a couple of years ago after the ownership change and that was it for me. The bindings I wanted were backordered. Okay, fine, nothing I or they can do about that. They told me it might take a week or two. So after a couple of weeks I called in and asked for an update. I was told they weren't in yet, but they told me that they were expecting a shipment with my bindings in a few days. So after another two weeks of hearing nothing, I called down again to see if they were ready or get an update. Whomever answered the phone very snidely asked, "Well, did we call you and tell you they were ready?" Just.. wow. I don't blame the backorder delays on them, but they were extremely uncommunicative and rude. After the bindings finally came in, I went down there with a (single) ski boot so they could fit the bindings. They refused to work on my skis with only a single boot. The owner gave me a lecture about boot safety and how he could not in good conscience work on a pair of skis using a single boot. He said they always do a complete boot inspection whenever they mount bindings. I said I didn't need or want a boot inspection, and I authorized him to do it with a single boot. I told him they were brand new boots, purchased within the last year, and that they only had about 10 ski days on them. There was no chance that the soles were worn unevenly or something of the sort that would cause them to behave differently. He flat out refused and acted like I was crazy to assume he could do it with one boot. I've been skiing for 25 years, and going to that very shop for regular maintenance and such for the past three seasons at that point, and never, not once, has a shop requested two boots. I live 45 minutes away, so this was more than a minor inconvenience. After I get them the extra boot, I wait a few more days for the mounting to actually happen. On the day I am told they will be ready, I go down in the late afternoon. I expect a quick pay and go experience, per normal. But they are not ready and I am told the tech is mounting the bindings as we speak. Another 45 minutes later, the store is technically closed and I am wondering why they told me they would be ready that day. When the tech finally comes up with them, I expect a quick exchange so that I can go home. Instead I am treated to their new "system" which requires some sort of lengthy registering with them on their store iPad. It takes like 30 minutes for what ought to be a simple credit card exchange. A few months later when I needed some work done on another pair of skis, I took them to BootDoctors in Taos. Having been traumatized previously, I brought in both boots. The tech looks at me like I am crazy and says, "Dude, we don't want both of your boots, it will take up too much space and they could get stolen as a pair." Job done within a day. On the upside, they do have a decent selection of gear. And the shop owner is a real gearhead that knows his stuff. It could work to his advantage if he put some effort into his customer service. read more

We moved to Santa Fe 3 seasons ago. I used to purchase gear from Alpine. They have really nice gear. However, I bought some Solomon snowboard boots from them last year, and they broke on my second day on the mountain. They wouldn't take them as a refund, and instead made me seek out the Solomon warranty. They sent them in for me, but then refused to help me with replacement boots, even though they could have lent me boots from their rental shop. So I was left with renting boots at full price. After 1 month, and my having to call them, they said there were not equivalent boots and I would have credit towards boots for the following season. I needed boots, so I bought them elsewhere, and just cut my losses. So, I tried their rental shop this year for snowboard tune-ups. I sat there with one other customer in the shop for about 15 minutes, with 3 employees listening to Pink Floyd (excellent choice). I was completely ignored. After 4 days I hadn't heard from them, so I called. I got attitude that "we told you they'd be ready the 19th". Actually jack nut, you failed to communicate anything at all. Then you charged 150$ for 2 tune-ups. The divots were filled in on the bottom, but the top edge divots were all ignored, which I'm having done elsewhere. And the other board just needed a wax. There was little explanation as the 150$. In the land of manana, I happily avoid bad service. Alpine Sports is officially on the list. I hate to just go to REI, but that's what I'm going to do. read more
