    Pole fitness

Alt-fit Jax is the beaches new and exclusive alternative fitness studio. The instructors are very professional and always put safety first. Classes offered include pole fitness, Lyra (also known as aerial hoop), aerial silks, and vertical barre. Do not be intimidated, as all fitness levels are welcome. If you can hold a pencil, than you can hold a pole! Currently they are offering a monthly trial of unlimited classes for $39 to all new members. This is the cheapest price that you will see in Jacksonville. If you struggle with motivating yourself to attend a traditional gym, I highly recommend alt-fit.

We had an Aerial Yoga class / party and it was so much fun!! We (the 4 of us) can't wait to do another class. Definitely recommend!

Your…read more7 year old self would grab on and swing, doing flips off the bar, hanging upside down from your knees. Somehow, somewhere in the ensuing 40 years, fear crept in where there was none. Responsibility weighed you down and playing in the air wasn't your favorite thing anymore. After taking the aerial yoga class, playing in the air is my favorite thing to do again. The silks wrap around you, soft, pliable and strong like an exuberant hug from your favorite adventurous aunt. Let your fear go, let the years of worry fade away and trust the silks. Trust yourself and your body. Know that you are stronger and more capable than you've allowed yourself to be in a long time. After one aerial class, I am hooked. This is more than a fitness class that burns away my naughty cupcake calories I didn't say "no" to. It is an experience that affects mind, body and soul if you open yourself up to it. For me, as a child, cavorting on the iron monkey bars made me feel light. We were released from the confines of classroom walls and unforgiving wooden desks to revel in the glorious free time of recess. Now, wrapping myself in aerial silks that will twist tight to hold me as a woven steel cable would or stretch wide to support me while I nestle inside its silken cocoon, recaptures that feeling I had when I was young. Flying Aerial yoga reminded me of the mental wings that I'd forgotten I had.

This studio truly embodies the name of "flow space" in the best way. I attended my first class…read morerecently, a Thursday morning guided flow, and didn't know what to initially expect since I'm new to free flowing styles of movement. I was a bit intimidated, but was soon at ease thanks to the teacher's guidance. This space is beautiful, well maintained, and truly welcoming. I've been searching for a home movement studio, which wouldn't have been accessible if it weren't for their Flow Exchange program. Simply put, I volunteer weekly for access to their weekly classes, and I think it's beyond worth it. I love community involvement, and it warms my heart to see a movement/yoga studio giving people an opportunity to be involved when cost could be a significant barrier. This studio is a collective of open, loving, and kind hearted humans, and I'm very excited to attend future classes!

We checked out Flow Space today, and found it to be lovely and beautiful, but worry about Flow…read moreSpace's long term viability because of the lack of ample convenient parking. The space is beautiful. It is shaped like a small high school gymnasium with an arched sealing, and exposed wooden beams, hard wood floors, and brick walls. This is a perfect setting for all kinds of events in addition to yoga and meditation. It really is lovely. Maggie, the leader in today's yoga session, was lovely as well. What I loved best about today's yoga session was the sound quality. So often these places blast you with so much extra sound from hip-hop, to new age raga, that it is difficult to hear. The clash of sounds in many of these yoga establishments is anything but peaceful, and create a situation where you must rely on visual contact with the leader to follow along. This is not the case in Flow Space. The acoustics were excellent, and the balance of sound made for a pleasant experience. The hitch to this place is the lack of ample convenient parking. There is probably overflow parking somewhere, I do not know, we could not stay and ask questions because we had other people from the class parked in and had to rush away as soon as yoga finished. This lack of parking will not only limit the number of people who can attend classes and meditations at this location, but it also makes this a less attractive event space. And this really sucks because spaces like this can change the world. I know that is a big claim, "spaces like this can change the world," and it is asking a lot of a small business in a small college town, but I am reminded of the Beatles song, Within You Without You. "When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one And life flows on within you and without you" I get a pretty good read on some people, and I feel that seeing and peace of mind is where Maggie is going, and that she and this space could help others do the same. She is selling Hatha Yoga, but she seems to be applying Kriya Yoga sensibilities. If only there was a place to park our dinosaur consuming, carbon spewing, steel boxes. I highly recommend Flow Space, and Yoga guided by Maggie. I want this space to flourish.
