Cars are lined up the streets leading up to this farmers market, but we were able to snag a spot not too far away. The street where the market is located is adjacent to a park where lots of kids are playing. There are a few picnic tables but we weren't lucky enough to get one. I think there was maybe 20 vendors or less with some as food and a couple specialty item stores. I was expecting a more but we went away with a couple of items and tried some delicious things. Here's what I got: Calamaki - Rockfish Ceviche - 5 oz for $10 - the fish was from Santa Barbara and was mixed with tomatoes, capers, onions, etc. It was a really refreshing ceviche. We ate it on the spot because we were hungry and it was a tad frozen but still yummy! Focaccia Bread - $4, I don't remember the stall name bit the bread was quite yummy and airy! Tacos Casa - Amigos Platter $15 - The tacos were delicious! The al pastor was especially delicious. The mulitas were also yummy adding that gooey cheese. The sopes were a miss for me - hard to eat and not super flavorful. Even with ordering this, it says chips, guac, and beans are included but we did not get that and were too far to go back already. We did get some organic lettuce and these cute little squashes! Perfect for lettuce wraps and sauteed veggies. Both costs about $4. It's a cute farmer's market and hope in the future there's more variety and vendors! It's a nice stop for a Wednesday afternoon. read more

Covid update. This market is struggling to survive so let's show it some love. The location is very far north and at high enough elevation that you can smell the change in vegetation. This is next to a community garden and situated in a park. There are picnic tables and a dog and family area. January 26 there were two food trucks, some artisans,ceramics, soaps,and jewelry. Really small farmers market. I wish there was more options.

I had heard Altadena had a Farmers Market for a little while now and finally had the chance to visit today! Let me start by saying, it is not a large Farmers market, it does not have as many vendors as say Victory Park but I found the selection to be quite good. Furthermore, after speaking to a few vendors was informed they switch it up often. Some come every other week, some are weekly, and others are seasonal. The park the Farmers market is held at is very nice and has a large gorgeous grass field area shaded by trees. The market had a lovely family oriented ambiance and many had picnic blankets out enjoying the afternoon. It opens at 4 and closes at 8. I would definitely recommend people to attend this market, especially in the summer time. Parking was easily found in the residential area. It was a brief one to two minute walk which I did not mind. Prices were honestly quite reasonable for a Farmers market. I did get cash before hand to spend at the Farmers market and did not notice cards being accepted however did read that some accepted them. Additional fees may be attached to the transaction though. There was a nice selection of produce, and a few artisanal vendors with homemade natural body products, Carmela Ice cream, coffee, teas, and baked goods. My son enjoyed a Cali smoothie and slice of pepperoni pizza he said was really good. I was tried the Mama Masubi vendor rice ball "mama special" and it was amazing. The vendor had a small rush of adults and children who all seemed to love the product. The line went quick and food came out relatively fast as well. I will definitely be coming back to try more of the delicious rice ball selection. I also had a thumb print shortbread cookie which was tasty and only $1 and purchased a bottle pineapple kombucha for later. I sampled the vendors spicy watermelon, and ginger turmeric kombucha as well. All were delish! read more

Great stop for families and kids on a Wednesday night. The field area is always buzzing with kids and families enjoying the food and weather. Today we enjoyed some bites from Mama Musubi and Calamaki. These are two of our favorite stands. Calamaki serves skewers of meats and veggies which are fresh and zip with great flavors. Mama is just what the Mama ordered hand held Japanese savory stuffed rice treats. We also picked up some beautiful strawberries for dessert and to take home from one of the farm stands. The market is getting more and more green which is very cool. They have take a bag leave a bag for reusable bags positioned thru out. Also washable plates and silver being used at a lot of the stands. Parking can be challenging today we parked on the other side of the park and walked down the path between the tennis courts and the horse paddock. Most stands take apple pay which is a life saver. Next time we will try the soup or the pizza stand they look good too. read more

Supposed to be a warm friendly farmer's market, but my experience just gets worse every week. Prices are more expensive than all farmers market around the area. It has much smaller selection than all Farmer's markets in the area (eg Montrose /Pasadena /south Pasadena) , but with a few quality unique vendors. However, Price gouging is major issue, when the same vegetable is only $2 at Montrose Farmers market consistently, I was asked to pay $3 first week and $4 another at Altadena farmers market. The food trucks are good and I see these abnormal pricing happening too. The price of a combo plus drinks at the Big Grandma's Pupusa truck was posted as $15+$5, and the customer was charged $27 . Another customer in line bought a drink and was asked to pay $10 and she said another employee charged her $7 just the week before but the price on the menu is $5. It is just disgusting . We all understand this market might have less customer flow and businesses are having tough times. But so are the patrons and Altadena residents. There are of course good honest vendors like Underwood family farms that charge the same price here, as compared to their booths at the other two Pasadena's Farmers markets. These behaviors just kill the experience and the Altadena Farmer's market management need to do something before none of us will come. More quality vendors with reasonable pricing please! read more

Fun Wednesday ! Visiting a Farmers Market in the middle of the week really breaks up the monotony of the week. It's a tiny little market but a cool way to support and try local businesses. Lots of neighborhood people come out and support the businesses. They have a few food trucks where you can have dinner while there. I want to go back to have dinner one day soon. read more

We tried the BBQ and the Tamales and were truly impressed. We chose the BBQ sampler consisting of brisket and jalapeño sausage. They were very tasty. We'll have that again. Set in Loma Alta Park, right next door to the Altadena Community Garden, the Altadena Farmers Market has just recently celebrated its first year of operation. I've only had the pleasure of visting once, but it made a very positive impression on me. While it's nowhere near as big as the Hollywood Farmers Market, you can revel in the fact that you're able to get more face-time with the enthusiastic and passionate vendors that live locally and love what they're doing. Bring your reusable grocery bags, cash, and a bright disposition, because you'll use them all when you come here. (*some* of the vendors actually do take credit card) From fresh and amazing fruits and veggies to freshly baked breads, goat cheeses, coffee (or coffee pop), butter and more, you'll see that size isn't everything and that this fantastic community market has a lot to offer. This summer, they are open from 4 to 8pm. There are a couple of picnic tables and plenty of grassy curb to kip up on if you wish to enjoy some freshly made Indian food, some rotisserie chicken, your hummus and bread, some pizza, gelato, or even some of the fruit you just bought. Love love love Altadena Farmer's Market. It's small but the perfect place to go after work and sit in the grass eating a pupusa or fresh produce or ice cream. This place makes me look forward to Wednesday's. It's a tradition to walk here on Wednesday's with my cousin to buy some produce and of course eat some pupusas. Parking can tend to fill up on the street as there is no parking lot so be prepared to park a little ways away and be respectful of the residents in the area as they do not want their driveways blocked. Some places accept cards some only accept cash so I would just be safe and bring cash for emergencies. The honey they sell here is hands down amazing. Perfect texture and flavor with no added flavors/chemicals/etc. Don't come here expecting you get all your grocery shopping done. Come here and expect to have a nice afternoon and buy some fresh produce/food you may need. Definitely try the pupusas they sell here, it's my favorite part of the trip here. read more

The Altadena Farmer's Market is one of my favorite things about living in beautiful Altadena. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the market has moved online, offering a great array of produce and homemade treats on a weekly basis. The drive-thru pick-up is safe and well organized, and the volunteers that help Stacey run things are all amazing. We feel so lucky for our Farmer's Market, and can't wait until this health crisis is over to go back to the market and browse on Wednesday evenings. Maybe it's because of the pandemic, but this isn't a very good farmers market anymore. I went in 2019 and it was OK, though not as good as some of the other farmers markets I've been to in the area. I went today and was very disappointed. The booths selling produce don't even know what they're selling."what kind of tomatoes are these?" " I don't know. There are different kinds so I just mix them up so you get some of everything" They tasted just like what you get at Vons, but double the price. "Do you grow Musk melons?" "I don't know what those are, but ours are pretty good" They were good, as good as Whole Foods, but more expensive. The food; Took 20 minutes to get oysters when I was 1 of 2 people there. (12 for $29+tip) 'Scallion' pancakes were Doughy and had no scallions in them, only a few sprinkled on top. I don't think I'll go back again. read more

*** VERY LITTLE PRODUCE *** *** where the HIPPIES are at *** for a farmer's market, it did not have many stands with fruits and vegetables. if you want to grab quick eats, they have mexican, taiwanese, vegan, musubi, seafood (oysters), food...and of course, the carmela ice cream truck. there seemed to be many more vendors selling clothing, pottery, etc than food. many hippies here. yes, that's right...hippies, not hipsters. it's nice if you live in the neighborhood and can walk there. street parking was a pain. the streets are narrow; barely can handle two way traffic. read more

My friend and I went last night and didn't really know what to expect. We were a little disappointed. Although they had an interesting and diverse selection, they were lacking in the produce department. It was really small, a little on the pricy side, and not very welcoming. It was very cold and we are wimpy Californians, so maybe that's why it didn't feel welcoming but I doubt I'll give it another chance. They do get a point for being dog friendly unlike their Pasadena counterpart. read more

This is a nice farmers market with friendly vendors. They are open late compared to most farmers markets I could find listed in LA. There is some street parking, but it can take a bit to find a spot nearby. It's pretty small. There were not as many fruit or vegetable vendors as I had hoped. Right now, it's small, located right next to the community garden and in the loma park ... probably 20 vendors max...only looked around for 5 minutes. I noticed that vendors are starting to sell more Asian fruits like korean pear.. but they are definitely more expensive... for those you can save quite a bit by going to Asian supermarkets. This is my community farmers' market, to which I'm devoutly loyal. Why so loyal? Ali, the oyster shucker, knows my name and order and is generous with smiles and good humor. The girls at Drake--wonderful goat cheese--remember my cheese tastes and alert me when there's something particularly good that they know I'll love. Very small backyard farmers get a real shot here, where at other places, they just wouldn't be able to provide enough. It's so special, friendly, and almost painfully local. Nancy knows just what kinds of plums--which she grows in her back yard--that I'll love. But that is its weakness, too. There are months I can't get carrots or lettuce because there aren't enough big vendors who can spend the money it takes to produce items that are challenging in certain seasons--this keeps us seasonal, though! Sometimes, since the clientele is small, the market loses great vendors who just can't make enough money there. Overall, the strong community ties and overall good vibe (and beauty, did I mention it's the prettiest farmers' market ever?) make Altadena Farmers' Market incredibly special and worth the occasional disappointment over lost vendors. read more

This market is really small. There is 1 produce vendor, 1 fruit vendor and the rest are food vendors. The unique vendors here are the musubi vendor and the paella vendor. I tried the salmon musubi 3.75. It was good. I wish they had a musubi vendor in south pas. The seafood paella (7 for a half order) was made from frozen seafood. Really disappointing but the rice tasted great. I went back to try the meat paella (6), the robusta. It was tastier but heavier from the meat grease. If I saw this vendor again I'd order the large robusta. Rice was really tasty. The Gastrotruck looked interesting, esp since the price point was about $5 but I had already spent almost $20 on hot foods. In total there were about 10 vendors. 75% were hot food vendors. Some garden, bee people, crafts. There's a guy in the front that will swipe your card for a token which works as a monetary unit. A little complicated but innovative. Otherwise there's an ATM around the corner on the main street. Offstreet parking only. Its free and since most people walk up from the neighborhood, there's always a space The produce is overpriced, on par with South Pas which surprised me. I was hoping it was cheaper since Altadena is a modest city. I guess if you don't have any other produce competitors you can set whatever price you want. I got a 5lb bag of oranges for $6. $5 will get you 5lbs in South Pas. You can find a 25lb of oranges for $10 in Alhambra. What makes this market unique is the huge park next to it. It's deep, green and cavernous. You almost don't seem like you're in LA at this park. I liked the musician here which was unusual because usually they suck. This guy was non-invasive and pleasant to my ears. I'm not sure he played covers either. 10 stars for the market musician. Come here if you want an evening outdoors with the kids. If you're like me and buy all your fruits and vegs from the market, go elsewhere for better variety and prices. I realize locals are trying to get more business to this market with higher ratings but this is seriously overrated. read more

What a wonderful contrast to the overcrowded and chaotic South Pasadena market. I applaud South Pas's success but they don't need me and I don't need the ear-splitting crowds. Let's send some business up to this lovely market, which has a good number of fruit and vegetable vendors plus a prepared-food vendor you won't find at South Pas: the paella stand. The slow pace and the warm atmosphere made us feel very welcome. We strolled through the park, petted the horses and picknicked after we bought paella, sheep yogurt, tomatoes, berries and nectarines. My true way to judge a market is how much of the food I'll actually eat within two-three days of visiting. I'm already deep into the berries and feel confident I won't be throwing anything away. read more

Located adjacent to the Altadena Community Garden, it's as fresh and local as it gets. I'm a big advocate of supporting our local farmers so I definitely appreciate actually seeing who my money is going to. It's a relatively small market (~20 or so vendors) but each vendor is unique from one another and offers artisan/gourmet food products and produce that are some of the best I've ever had without flying to different parts of the country to get them. The price is a bit on the expensive side compared to shopping at Ralph's or Super King but if you take into consideration the ratio of price to quality then there is no competing with AFM. I shop from a variety of grocers across the price and quality spectrum: Super King, Ralph's, Vons, Trader Joe's, Fast & Easy, Sprouts, Whole Foods, Grand Central Market, and South Pasadena Farmer's Market. In terms of food quality, Altadena Farmer's Market takes the (organic) cake. As for price, the items like honey ($8-$12), packaged cheeses ($6-$10), hummus ($4), yogurt ($6) are set BUT I bought two bushels of swiss chard (HUGE leaves) for $1 at closing time. The perishables they're otherwise going to throw out at the end of the day are where your cost savings will be. I also got smoked salmon and trout (~2 lbs for $27) and the taste is comparable to the stuff I brought home from Pike's Place Market where it was $35-$47 PER lb. So I went nuts and splurged all over this vendor. Bring both cash and card. The vendors use Square there but Altadena is located at the foot of the mountains so sometimes there's no reception. This is definitely a must-visit market. I really hope it gets big because I really like the people there who grow and make the food that I know is both nourishing and so very, very delicious. If you want to take a date out to a low-key, relaxing atmosphere, this is the place to go. There's live music! read more

I finally got to try Big Mista's bbq (rated in the top 10 in LA) had some pupusas (from Deisy's Tasty Food ), and some oysters (from Shucked Oyster Bar), there is also pizza from Fox Pizza Bus , which is a converted double decker bus. I need to try the bus pizza, just because that's absolutely cool. Big Mista's bbq was awesome, I had the sampler. It's $20 and you get hot links, brisket, ribs and pulled pork. You get generous portions of each. They have a heavy smoke flavor and this is some of tenderest bbq I've ever had. Just a tad dry, but tender as can be. The meat flavors come through with a smote tinge that says "hey, what's up!". I'm currently using the pulled pork to make sandwiches. The oysters are very good. The cost $2.25 each. At the time they had two types, one was sweet, one was briny. (He told me he names, they were written on the front, but I have short memory). The guy serving them is a very nice and friendly person. He will talk with you about the oysters if you have any questions. He also has fans, so you can also ask them about the oysters an what condiment goes with each oyster. Now on to the pupusas, they are humongous. I had the pork/bean/cheese and the beef/bean/cheese. I'm using to having "pork" pupusas have pork that most resembles bacon meat with different spices then bacon. This one tasted like carnitas pupusa.It was good, but not what I'm used to having. The beef one was like what you would expect beef/bean/cheese to be like. They are fresh, so it takes a while to get your order in. The pickled cabbage they have could use more time pickling and also more spice. It's a very small farmers market, but it has a good selection of goods. Next Wednesday,I'm trying the pizza. Charming little (and I do mean little) farmers market in Altadena. A nice selection of food vendors. Hubby tried the musubi and gumbo from a couple of different places. I had pupusas and we had the lemonades (watermelon, strawberry). All was delicious. The produce vendor selection was very limited--I wish there were more. I did try a sample of the lavender goat cheese--WOW!! I want to go back to buy some of that. It didn't take very long to walk through the whole thing, but I would go back on another Wednesday night for the wonderful family atmosphere, music, and al fresco summer dinner. :) read more

Amazing park setting, lush green grass and beautiful native sycamore trees. Solid family vibe with convenient amenities like park benches​ and clean restrooms. Perfect for a picnic. I always get the smoked salmon, YUMMY. This farmers market is small, however it has everything you could want. I especially love the amazing plant vendor he seems to know everything about plants. Just ask him he not shy. He is a little short but cute, I think he is a landscape architect too. He sells herbs and veggies plants, house plants and cactus/succulents too. My family and I go every Wednesday and enjoy the yummy produce, prepared foods, music and vibe. Maybe the larger percentage of ultra-local vendors anywhere. 3 vendors are located in Altadena itself, with others from Monrovia, Pasadena and close by towns. I am trying to buy a larger and larger part of my weekly groceries here and find that from eggs to fish to fruit and veggies and grains, with a little flexibility on my end, I can find what I need for a week's meals. read more

I've been coming to this Farmers Market for quite some time now. In fact, I try to make it a weekly habit and always look forward to it. Maybe I'm a little biased as a born and bred Altadenan, but I think this place is a treasure. It may be smaller than other markets out there, but there's a great sense of community here and it's lovely just to wander around and chat with the various vendors. There are so many people here who are passionate about what they grow, make, sell, and do, and I think that sets AFM apart. Not to say vendors at other markets don't have passion, but there's something about the combination of vendors, its lush location next to the Community Garden, the amazing Market staff, and the Altadena evening air that makes it something special. The yogurt from Aris is fantastic. I'm convinced that the pairing of pergamot and rose petal is an affordable luxury of Olympic proportions. KlausesBees has made me a fan of honey, Sherrill Orchards a fan of green juice, and the produce selection from McDonald's Urban Farm, Chuy's, City Fresh Farming, Seminavi Farms, and Whisper Farms is always wonderful. Don't forget to try Granola Mama and Coldwater Canyon Provisions jams and jellies of all kinds. I could sincerely go on. I'll meet you there next Wednesday! read more

I shop all the farmer's markets; Pasadena, South Pasadena, Silver Lake and Altadena's is the best. Not the biggest but the best. I wish there was a bigger choice of produce vendors but there are enough and all the other vendors beat everyone else's. The best honey, the best cheese, the best ice cream and gelato, amazing grassfed - and finished - beef, along with eggs and butter. The market has had some ups and downs over the past year but all in all, it is as good as it gets. read more
