Brought in my bridesmaid's dress to be taken in and hemmed and was VERY pleased with everything! I ended up spending just over $100 for everything (bringing in top of dress quite a bit and a good length hem on three layers of dress) which I thought was a pretty good price. I've tried a few other places around Jacksonville but this place is by far the best. I like all my clothes to have a snug fit so I'm often bringing in dresses, skirts and pants to have the waist taken in or the hem taken up. Alterations by Dorothy & Ewa is a hidden gem on San Juan Ave. Recently, I took a pair of my son's suit pants over to see if they could be repaired. The pants had shredded at the seam & seemed impossible to repair. I really didn't want to go & buy a new suit for him but the shred appeared hopeless to me. She repaired the pants where they look amazing & did the work very quickly. Also, the cost was very, very reasonable. She is very good at what she does & has a very sweet personality. I was and am so beyond dissappointed in my results. I had been quoted for my Mother of the Bride dress that I brought in a month before the wedding. I was told, yes no problem, we can do everything you need within a week. I told her please don't rush, I can come and get it right before we leave that way you have plenty of time to do all the alterations. We had a destination wedding. She said no problem we will hem and replace the sequins needed to be fixed. But, when I came to pick it up, I was just shocked. One she tried to charge me additional money and then went on to say "Oh I did not fix the sequins because we did not have time and that would cost more money". Okay, I am on my way out of town within a 2 day period and this individual tells me, Oh so sorry we didnt do what we said we would do. Seriously, the most unprofessional business I have ever been associated with. I had previously been a very happy customer, except for a few threads that did not stay when my items were fixed, but, otherwise very happy. My dress was not hemmed correctly, lower in the front than the back, I could tell that when I looked at the piece they cut, but, thought, they will fix it, they fixed absolutely nothing to my satisfaction! Not sure, but, I think they are under new management and failed me miserably!! After this I would never ever recommend them! read more
