"I recently Googled a seamstress in Chattanooga and visited Marilyn with the goal of having a custom baby blue pants suit made for my daughter's wedding. Although Marilyn initially agreed to create the pants, vest, and blazer, the process quickly became frustrating. She repeatedly questioned my choice to wear pants, asked my daughter for approval, and insisted I purchase a ready-made suit for tailoring rather than crafting it from scratch. After I brought a pair of pants for her to replicate, she fixated on pictures and ignored my actual garment. She also kept complaining that she couldn't get material in Chattanooga and told me I would have to drive to Nashville or order it from New York. She never gave me any alternate suggestion for a material I could find in Chattanooga. As a second option, she offered to make black pants if I bought a vest and blazer, but I declined, as black was not suitable for a wedding. Additionally, when another customer entered with a picture, Marilyn was openly rude, dismissing her and rolling her eyes. It got to the point that I simply had to get up and walk out because she kept disputing my requests instead of agreeing to what I wanted. She called the bride FAT, then complained about being there on a Sunday to deliver dress when SHE cancelled appointment on Thursday because her iron blew up, THEN charged $330 to get a $60 dress altered. I've never written a poor review before but this one absolutely needs it. I was treated so badly here by the woman who I assume is the owner. I'm a little person and have been looking for a seamstress and first off she looked at my boyfriend and said "why does she ask so many questions" when I was inquiring about pricing and timing. And she didn't want to believe that he was my boyfriend. Which was so weird. Then as I was standing and speaking with her I shifted my weight to one leg and she said "are your legs uneven or something because that's gonna be a problem with alterations." First off, no. They're not. Second off, how dare you? She then went on and on about how amazing she is but that she's "not a seamstress, but a designer. and things work differently around here." I just felt extremely disrespected. She refused to answer any of my questions. Her tone was so condescending. And clearly she didn't care about having a new client. She even told me she'll rush orders for some clients but not all. I will absolutely never return and will never recommend this woman's business to anyone. I try to never leave a bad review for a small business, but I unfortunately had a terrible experience at Marilyn's and feel the need to share as a warning to other brides. I sought her services for four items related to my wedding and honeymoon, including my rehearsal dinner dress. After three visits due to three of the four items still not fitting properly, I scheduled a final appointment to pick my items up three days before leaving town for my wedding. When I arrived, the two dresses and a top clearly had not been touched or altered in any way, nor had they been steamed. They were laying in a chair untouched exactly as I had left them several days before. She was very defensive and said I could talk to 10 other happy customers of hers, but obviously that does me no good as I am now scrambling to find someone else to resolve this unfortunate situation the week of my wedding. read more

We took items (military uniforms) to this facility twice. Both times the uniforms were not completed on time. After multiple phone calls, the owner stated the items were completed. Upon arrival, the items were not. The owner is very talkative and complains about America. Being a member of the US Navy, these remarks were highly disrespectful and unwarranted. I came to Marilyn a week before my wedding with an emergency alteration needed for my wedding gown. I had taken my dress to have it altered and it was done horribly (see pics for details). Marilyn took me in and made it happen even though she was slammed with business. She understood how I desperately needed help and stepped up to ensure my dress looked like the dress of my dreams. I had used Marilyn on numerous occasions and she had always done a good job. I took a pair of pants to her for repair and was told on 3 separate occasions that they were ready. After driving to her shop, I was told, oh sorry, not ready. On the third attempt, I just asked for my pants back. They had been torn apart to make repairs but no repairs were started. I recently brought a pants suit in to be altered a bit. Had the pants hymned, the waist taken in, and my jacket sleeves shortened. Marilyn was really friendly and super helpful.
