I had a simple task before me...get two pair of umpire pants hemmed. I visited his shop (a one man…read moreoperation) and Mr Fred immediately greeted me and asked a few very pointed, specific questions about protective equipment, etc. Long story short, the questions told me he knew exactly what he was doing. He also made sure I had my shirt tucked in ("it makes a difference" said Fred) and that I had the proper shoes with the proper pair of pants. So I stood up on the little podium and he had 'em each marked in about 15 or so seconds flat. He asked me when I needed 'em; I wasn't in a particular hurry so he gave me a six day turn. I tried on each pair once I picked 'em up and they're perfect! Not only is he a very good tailor but a gentleman as well. He is affable and friendly with a neat, well organized shop. It's plain to see he takes pride in his craft and has a great work ethic. So if you need any kind of alterations or tailoring performed on your clothing, this is the fellow to see. You don't find old school workmanship like this in too many places anymore. If you like that, then Fred is your man. I finish by leaving three caveats before you visit. 1. He charges in advance for the work he performs. 2. He only accepts cash and Zelle. 3. His services AIN'T cheap. That said, Fred is probably the best tailor I've ever used. I say that as I own three suits, a tuxedo and coattails plus a number of custom shirts. It never really struck me to rate a tailor on Yelp up to this last go-round. However now that I have, I truly know that Mr Fred is about as good as they get!

I bought this unique fabric bag and have used it for many things, latest of which is for bringing stuff to yoga sessions! After years, the seams started to come undone so I popped by to chat with Fred. I told him how important this bag was and why and he agreed to fix it up for a very reasonable price. Fred went the extra mile and reinforced every seam in the bag and told me we were good for another 20 years! Fred also fixed the belt loop on a pair of jeans but they don't have sentimental value to me. Still, he did it perfectly! Life is a good with a local craftsman who does his best work for you!

I ranted and raved about how slow, expensive and inconvenient this shop is. That said, I finally went to pick up my 2-piece suit and tie Tuesday, even though it was ready, apparently, the Saturday previous. So once I get in, I see that John must be watching the grandkids, He was nowhere to be found but I saw a couple of little kids horsing around in the back room area. So they call out to him, and a moment later, John appears. He apologized as I passed him the ticket. He finds my freshly cleaned and pressed suit, hangs it up and he laughs a little. Those two little kids are a handful but he's patiently watching after them as he runs his business. Meantime: $16.75 for the suit and tie! That, to me, seems quite reasonable: especially given the six-day turn time on the ticket. He didn't say anything one way or the other, but I kinda think I got a bit of a break here. It doesn't seem like he has much of a staff other than his wife who does the alterations and mending in the morning hours. There was a good sized heap of stuff waiting for service as well as full racks of other stuff waiting for pickup. John was more friendly and outgoing than usual this go round. He's usually a pleasant fellow anyway, but I kinda get the idea that I caught him in one of those "moments" where one sees the human side of his business, life, etc. So I gave John that extra bit of patience, courtesy, etc. as I gently joked with and spoke to him. Long story short: I think I'm gonna stay here as a customer...I still believe I'm looking for a service of convenience. At the same moment, it's also up to me to help support this small family business. No matter what, it's still about doing the right thing. John certainly seems to hold up his end of the bargain there. So what about me, you ask?? You just read my answer! After that time elapsed we hadn't heard anything so we called them and were told that it was delayed because the person the dress had been sent out to was behind. We called every few weeks from that point on and could not get a straight answer about when we would get the dress back or where it was. We were told we couldn't get the owner's name or number and we'd have to go in at 8am to see him, but he wasn't in every day. (We live in California right now though, so obviously couldn't make it there.) We asked multiple times for the name or number of where the dress was sent and were told that only the owner had that information. Yesterday we were told that they had new owners so we called up again today to check in on the dress. My husband spoke to two people, the first told him that he would call my husband back. The second was a lady who said that there are in fact new owners, they don't actually know who the dress was sent out to or the contact info for them. He was told there are NINE other dresses that are missing right now. I brought it here because I have friends who had gotten theirs preserved with them no problem and it came highly recommended. Ultimately I would love my dress back, but I think it's either lost or sold off at this point. I wish I could give zero stars. I did also file a complaint with the BBB.
