I have been going to Altered State and have been tattooed numerous times by Scott White. Not only is he a good human, he is blessed with a creative spirit. He has always been more than reasonable with costs. Recently got a Blue Demon Ozzy tribute (which was stenciled by Pooch) and it's fantastic!!!! I know first hand that Pooch and Dean are amazing! There are other artists as well! I always appreciate the time spent at the shop and everyone there makes you feel comfortable! This place is the sickest tattoo shop I have ever been to. I know there are some other good shops out there, but this place is the real deal. One of the reasons we picked this spot was because of how many friends and randoms recommended this place. BTW, our visits to Altered State Tattoo weren't for me, but for my girlfriend...who, if I am being kind, is wicked hard to please. Luckily the art has come out great so far. When it's 100% done I will post pictures of the ink... Speaking of ink, there are a bunch of great artists here-all with 20+ years of experience, but in my opinion, the best artist is that of Michael "Pooch" Pucciarelli. I guess the choice comes down to what your individual style is, but we really liked some of Pooch's darker themed stuff. He also has done art for the band moe. and has done everything from 3-D art projects to prints, to musical instruments...seems like he was born to be an artist. In fact he has a crazy portfolio (I'm sure some of it's online somewhere) but I got to see a lot of it first hand through friends that swear by him so while there were some other great artists at Altered State, we were all about Pooch. A few words about the shop. Nicole, the chick that manages the place is as cool as the backside of my pillow! She knows her shit; she is fun to talk with and was great about making us feel comfortable as we wanted to do this right. We had budgeted time to get work done over a few sessions (still to be finished), and I for one didn't want to be cooped up some tiny shanty of a shop...Altered State is nothing like that. I kind of look at this place like a really cool art gallery that is laid out a bit like a high-end barber shop; instead of the little rooms-all the artist are on one floor with ample space between chairs which I imagine is so they can talk and even inspire one another and it gives off this collaborative vibe that we really enjoyed...after all some people literally spend days getting work done. So far the artwork has been sick and I really know this is going to be finished up nicely when it's done. I was thinking about that and realized I had to give Pooch and his fellow artists props for what they have done. I am not being hyperbolic when I say Altered State is the Shangri La of tattoo shops and I am glad we took our time to find both the right studio, and the perfect artist. Hell, even if you are not looking to get inked-it's worth a look see as I said-this place has a lot of cool ass stuff, the people are cool and if you are even considering body art-I'd say you would be crazy to not at least consider this place. Met with Dave today, as a walk-in. Discussed how I wanted an existing arm piece fixed. The original tattooer didn't draw the design as I'd wanted and I've lived with it for like 12 years. I've always wanted to get it fixed, but life got in the way. Looked up tattoo shops in West Palm Beach, now that I live down here. Found this Yelp review and was impressed by it. So I walked in and was greeted by a girl whom I'd thought worked there, but was a happy customer. Dave listened to my ideas for a new different piece of artwork, then my lamenting about my existing Heart & Scroll that I'd been unhappily carrying. After creating a hand drawn design of my new idea, He expertly hand drew the corrections I desired on my existing bicep tattoo and through friendly banter, he produced what I'd wanted all along!! You can't tell that it's a gone over, corrected piece. It looks exactly like what I originally envisioned it to be! So I'll be back soon to get my next new design applied by Dave's skilled hands. Going to Scott at Altered State Tattoo was one of the most wonderful experience I had and I am 74 years old and I've waited over 40 years and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I had a pretty big back piece that was in the works when I moved to the area. After researching and getting several recommendations, I chose Altered State. I was so excited, I even discussed getting my sleeve done there! The place was really clean, and everyone was very nice. However, once I left (and all the adrenaline from sitting on the chair for ~4hours had worn off), I took a second look at the coloring work that I had done, and it brought me to tears. We discussed it being mostly blue, and the artist suggested some orange highlights. Silly me... I thought highlights meant a touch of orange, not the great majority. Some details that were meant to be just a touch darker than my skin are extremely dark, and instead of shading, they look like random gobs of ink placed randomly under my skin. To this day it brings me to tears, and I am going through the very painful and expensive process of getting this tattoo removed, since several other artists I have talked to said there's not much to do about it. read more

I've been going to Altered State for the past 15 years. Scott & Pooch have always done nothing but QUALITY work. I get stopped on a weekly basis by even the elderly telling me how beautiful and colorful my tattoos are - a testament to their artistry. If you're looking for custom and I can stress this enough, quality work - you've come to the right place. However, don't go in looking to pick something off the wall. His portfolio speaks for itself, as far as the creativity in the designs for his tattoos as well as the quality of the work. The shop is very clean and all the walls are filled with art.
