I have a family member with disabilities, I was rescheduled on by Jessica (the manager) then she was very late to our meeting due to over sleeping. No questions were really answered, she just kept saying it's person centered planning and they pick everything. They have goals that make no sense and are never met, it sounds like they just take the bus to the library or mall. Jessica spoke in a very condescending way about her own staff and came across and very pandering despite not answering any questions. She gave us a tour and there was a client in the office screaming at staff about the candy dish in dirty clothes and Jessica just smiled. I just don't understand the program other than her claiming they do absolutely everything. Finally, by pure luck I saw this program in the community at the library and the group was with this same manager. I was only there for 10 minutes but I did not see this manager look up from her phone the entire time or even speak to the clients. The clients were just looking at books on their own. I don't get this program or what the end goal is other than it's really expensive. Go check it out and see for yourself

AbilityFirst is an amazing organization that serves children and young adults with disabilities…read more Every year they have a really fun fundraiser called Food & Wine Festival. Tickets are around $400 to the fundraiser but it goes to a wonderful cause and is so fun, with music food drink and socialization. This is such a great organization doing such great work.

I was fortunate to win a ticket from Yelp for Union Station Homeless Services' annual fundraiser…read more My ticket allowed me to participate virtually in the Roarin' 2021 Evening for the Station event and silent auction and also included a boxed meal from Porta Via. Union Station Homeless Services is a nonprofit committed to helping individuals and families facing hunger, poverty, and homelessness in the community by providing the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives. Last year, during the pandemic, they helped over 1,000 people find homes and employment. The day before the fundraiser I stopped by their office to pick up my boxed meal from Porta Via. Porta Via is a casual Italian market, deli, bakery & restaurant located in Pasadena. My meal consisted of roasted vegetable skewers, orecchiette pesto pasta salad, and mixed greens with feta, cranberries with a light vinaigrette. (Grilled Salmon and Grilled Chicken Kabobs were the other options.) Everything was delicious! This year's Evening for the Station was a hybrid event held virtually and in person. The in-person function was held at the University Club Pasadena. Entertainment for the evening featured performances from the Gerry Rothschild Band and a variety dance show by Todd Elliot Entertainment. Union Station's CEO Anne Miskey told us about all the wonderful work the nonprofit does. Gerry Rothschild mentioned that he also volunteers for Union Station Homeless Services and serves lunches every Thursday. There were some technical difficulties with the live feed but, overall, it was a very enjoyable event. The music was good, the dancers were fantastic, and there were some great items available in the silent auction, which I did bid on. This is a place where you can admire an art display made of tires, a sowing machine powered by a bicycle, a moving dining table powered by six bicycles and talk to the artist. This is a review specifically for their adult woodworking class…read more I was looking for a beginner's woodworking workshop for myself, but the other ones I've looked at were a bit intimidating (and kinda expensive for my budget). At first I thought they only offered classes for children, but I looked through their website and there it was, classes for adults! I was hyped! The projects looked so cute. I wanted to learn the basics. Woodworking is pretty fun, but you also have to be patient. Blue, the instructor, was super awesome! She gave a lot of suggestions and was supportive in whatever you wanted to create (as long as they had the tools and materials available). They offer the class inside one of their school buses (very spacious, looks really cool). I would go again if my schedule permitted it.
