One of the sleds we'd brought with us to ride, was mechanically set-up and jetted to operate at Minnesota elevation and was, basically, "dead" in our Colorado mountains high-elevation. Super disappointing on Day #1, as not everyone could ride - and we only had one more day before the Minnesota family had to fly back home. The next morning, we went straight to Timberline Motorsports when the opened - looking for mercy - and boy! did we get some! We asked if they could immediately work us in (help!) so that everyone could ride on our last day in the mountains. These guys saved our vacation! Awesome mechanic, did a quick troubleshoot, diagnosed the problem and identified parts that would work (on this older sled), and had the thing running great in less than an hour. Absolutely top-notch! And when they handed us the invoice, we couldn't believe how reasonable it was... MUCH less than we expected, for emergency service! My car was definitely not snow ready so I found myself in a situation that felt a little scary. I called and spoke with Julie. She went so far above and beyond that I was honestly blown away. She even stepped outside to physically look at the snow line since she could see it from where she was, just to make sure she gave me the most accurate information. She took the time to explain my options, made sure I felt safe, and told me I could check back in with her on Sunday if needed. The fact that I am leaving a review without ever needing service speaks volumes about the level of care and integrity here. The starter first showed signs of trouble in Orem, UT. By the time we got to Grand Junction, CO we knew we had a problem. As we reached Denver, we got a referal for Urabus and gave John a call. He was on the road, but immediately happy to help and directed us to his brother Jeremy. I dropped in on Jeremy that morning and had a great visit. He assured me that if I brought Bianca in the next morning, they'd hook me up with a sweet TDI starter using a Rocky Moutain Westy / VanCafe adapter plate and have me back on the road by the end of the day. Sure enough, the next day Bianca was back in action. I spent far too much of the guys' time before paying and being on my way. We had a tour of the shop, got a tutorial on failed starters and talked about VWs, the VW community and vanlife in general. I honestly felt like I was hanging with friends--how often do you say that about your mechanic? That day was really a game changer for us. Any residual nervousness faded away and we were able to simply enjoy the trip--and revel in the new high torque starter--and the great service we received.
