Honest and cool mechanic with incredible skills!! I live in Texas but Urabus is the only shop I'll let work on my bus.

We were a bit nervous heading out on our recent road trip from Seattle to Denver. Sure, our Westfalia affectionately named Bianca had a clean bill of health from our mechanic, but we've had that before...a story all Westfalia owners are familiar with... The starter first showed signs of trouble in Orem, UT. By the time we got to Grand Junction, CO we knew we had a problem. As we reached Denver, we got a referal for Urabus and gave John a call. He was on the road, but immediately happy to help and directed us to his brother Jeremy. I dropped in on Jeremy that morning and had a great visit. He assured me that if I brought Bianca in the next morning, they'd hook me up with a sweet TDI starter using a Rocky Moutain Westy / VanCafe adapter plate and have me back on the road by the end of the day. Sure enough, the next day Bianca was back in action. I spent far too much of the guys' time before paying and being on my way. We had a tour of the shop, got a tutorial on failed starters and talked about VWs, the VW community and vanlife in general. I honestly felt like I was hanging with friends--how often do you say that about your mechanic? That day was really a game changer for us. Any residual nervousness faded away and we were able to simply enjoy the trip--and revel in the new high torque starter--and the great service we received. Traveling from Cali to NY I developed sloppy steering. Not having my own garage to work on my 82 westy; I was lucky enough to find these guys! John was able to take a look at my VW and get the part (steering rack) in same day on a busy holiday week. They are extremely knowledgeable and reasonable. If you find yourself in a jam you can count on these guys to be honest and fair. They did mention that they have another shop in CO with a couple of acres of land to camp overnight... maybe the next time I pass through. John is great! He is so passionate about VWs and cares so much about doing a good job. We have been working with him on a few projects over the past 2 years and each time it's been great. He is knowledgeable about what's needed and doesn't waste time selling you stuff you don't need. I was referred to Buschmann's Autowerks by a friend who rebuilds cars. I figured you can't get a more solid recommendation than that! My alternator pooped out on 225 south. After a quick call, my Honda Element was towed to Buschmann's. We arrived after 6:30pm but the owner kindly waited at the shop for me. As soon as I arrived, he popped the hood & was able to accurately diagnose the issue. He provided me with a quote and had my vehicle back to me the very next day. My car fired right up and has been running like a champ ever since. If you are looking for a fair, reliable mechanic who gets it done right, I strongly recommend the capable hands at Buschmann's Autowerks. Had another service last month at John's shop. Our 2010 sportwagen tdi. Wasn't holding coolant at all. Found the problem (big hole), replaced the part, and kept us informed along the way. I thought it was going to be a pricey fix to replace the radiator but it was very reasonable. Car runs great. Thanks again John! read more

Sure, the sign says AutoWERKS, and you'll find no shortage of VW's parked around the shop, but John and his crew appear to speak Subaru fluently as well. I've only been in for an oil change so far, but everything was as described and as quoted. What I saw was an independent repair shop with all the usual things -- beaters awaiting parts, commuters awaiting service, and a friendly dog at the front door. What I didn't see were expensive leather lounge chairs in the waiting area, a fully-automatic espresso machine, "service writers" with almost no mechanical knowledge, or any of the other dreck that adds to overhead at dealerships. Four stars for now, since it was just an oil change, but I'll revisit after the next time my beater Forester needs service. Recommended! read more

In August 2017, I cracked my exhaust pipe in Salina, Kansas. After checking through Roadhaus and Yelp I called ahead to John at Buschmann's Autowerks, also called URABUS, and set up an appointment 2 days later to bring my 1990 Vanagon in for a fix. John very kindly fit me into his packed schedule, given that I had to head out of town to meet friends and experience the solar eclipse. John made the time and worked into the evening in order to fix my exhaust pipe so my van no longer sounded like a motorcycle. He was friendly, efficient and fair. 2009 VW GTI OBDII Code p2181 Engine temp normal but check engine light on. I did not find any help on the Net for this issue so putting this upfront for search engines to catch, in case it can help someone. That said, this check engine light issue was my first one with my first VW. Leery of the local VW dealers after reading one horror story after another about their dishonesty, I decided to trust the 15 reviews here and stopped by John. Found him and Jamie very friendly and down to earth. John took a look at the car and immediately diagnosed that there wasn't enough cooling fluid in the reservoir, even though it was up to the line. He showed me how the top coolant hose was soft and just full of hot air which was contributing to the error condition by the sensor. I went and got me some VW recommended G12 fluid (purple cap) and topped off the fluid in the reservoir just a tad above the half tank joint and sure enough the check engine light went off. John, NICE WORK !! An in hind sight I feel a bit cheap. Should have offered to buy you lunch or something...:) Folks ! Having an honest and competent expert for your VW will lower the stress in your life considerably. And John and Jamie are your team !! read more

I was looking for an alternative to the VW dealership for mechanical repairs on my 2006 Jetta TDI, so I came to Yelp. After reading about Buschmann's, I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. John was super friendly and helpful. He got my car in for basic maintenance just a couple days after I called. During the repairs, John had great communication. He let me know about something that needed to be done (which I had already assumed would be the case based on the condition my car was in) and gave me options, with prices and his recommendation (the least expensive!) I approved buying two tires. When my car was ready, I wasn't sure how I was going to pick it up and in the timeframe I needed, so John actually drove my car up to where I was! When he arrived he let me know that only 1 tire (rather than the 2 we originally thought) needed to be replaced. The service and honesty offered by John was refreshing. It looks like I found an amazing alternative to the dealership and Buschmann's will continue to receive my business! read more

John was thorough and had a smile on his face as he took my Jetta last minute on a Friday afternoon. I needed to get my windshield spray mechanism working again with all of the snow on the roads, it was a safety concern.
