Altman's is our "go to" place for our toys. We went there today to get some darts. Bob greeted us when we entered and was very helpful and kind. They have a wide variety of things, from billiards and indoor bags to massage chairs and bars. They have a beautiful display of furniture upstairs and so many things on clearance right now! I had a dimension one spa appx 20 yrs old, bought it used from a spa store in Springfield 18 yrs ago. Had been sitting empty no being used since 2007. I decided to get it running again. I replaced the control board ( my idea ) it still wouldn't heat. Talked to Bob, he had a heater unit they had taken off an old unit, I bought it for a fair price, installed it, unit wouldn't jet water. Spoke to Bob, he walked me through things to look for. I had a control T handle valve in wrong position, pulled it up, Bob suggested bleeding the air out of the pump, did that, jets started working, unit is heating up to 104, works like a champ! Just wished I'd called a long time ago! Great customer service! We've also bought several things from the store over the years, bar stools, etc, everything was always heavy duty quality products. read more

Bought a pool table with a house around it. Noticed it was out of level. Called Altman's even though the table was not purchased from them, they were happy to come take a look at my table. They even gave me an estimate on the phone. The appointment was met on time, the guys were very nice and professional. It didn't take them long to make the necessary leveling adjustments. They told me some information about my table, good things, they didn't try and tell me all the bad things about it, in fact they said it looked very nice and it went well with our decor. They spent time after leveling making sure the table rolled true and gave me some information about balls and places in the area to go play outside of my home. This is our second experience with Altman's and both have been very positive. I recommend this locally owned business for your recreational and furniture needs. read more

I moved to Bloomington in January, 2017 and checked several furniture stores for furnishings. We ended up buying most of our furniture from Altman's and found mostly great service and very high-quality merchandise. So far, we have from them a large fleece-filled corner group for the basement theater, a complete bedroom set complete with bed, comforter, bedroom furniture, etc, a recliner, a very nice dinette set, a cabinet that doubles as a TV stand, an outdoor patio set, and a combination pool table/ping pong. I found them to be friendly and sociable; there is always merchandise on special, and they were kind enough to hold my furniture while I was waiting for carpet. The pool table was expertly installed...the only glitch has been with one of their suppliers as we are awaiting a barroom shuffleboard table, but we'll survive. read more

Bob is great to work with. Our family purchased a air hockey table and a Memphis Grill Pro. The family has loved playing on the air hockey table. I have cooked our Thanksgiving turkey and was amazing. Since then I have cooked pork tenderloins and fish and turns out amazing. read more

Altman's is such a fun store! Their customer service is fantastic and the selection of billiards and games, furniture, patio, bar, and grill, and hot tubs is impressive! I have been a customer of Altman's for a few years now, during Covid restrictions they have accommodated my accessory and supply needs curbside. They delivered my new smoker to me as a surprise by arriving early instead of my waiting an additional day to pick it up. The absolute best place in the McLean County area for all your furniture and outdoor needs! They are always very friendly, knowledgeable and make sure you are taken care of in the most professional manner. They have also helped with donations when I was with a NO KILL animal shelter. The owners have a heart of gold, as does the staff! I personally recommend everyone to go here before you look anywhere else. We purchased a spa from Altman's in September. We were very pleased with their selection. The owner and staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Besides spas and pool tables, they have the best selection of bars, bar stools, high top tables, and other game tables that I have ever seen. I bought a very old antique table from Altman's that needed some parts and restoration. They were extremely helpful in connecting me with local and out of state suppliers, dealers, and service companies to help me get the table restored. They were also very accommodating in waiting for the restoration to be completed before coming out to setup the table in my game room, including storing the table for me while work was being done to restore the rails. Whenever I'd run into a dead end on replacement parts, they were happy to take the time to help me find alternative sources. Truly excellent service, even long after their sale was made! read more

This store is impressive. Bob and his wife Karen are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Their name may lead one to think that billiards and bar stools encompass their inventory-false. They carry a wide array of beautiful bar furniture (including full home bar setups), foosball tables, grills, shuffleboard tables, arcade video games, and a host of other leisure activity accessories. I came in to purchase some scrap billiard felt for a project and Bob was as helpful as can be. If you are looking to compliment your home with some attractive entertainment commodities, you should most definitely visit this store in Bloomington or Urbana. Had a pool table installed. Came home and my phone rang (call from the owner) for payment. Inspected the table and it had major scratches on the sides and a 3" split on one side. The felt had a gash in it. I was told that it would be taken care of and that he would send us wine as a gift. It has now been 14 months and we have not heard from anyone. NEVER SHOP AT ALTMAN'S BILLIARDS & BARSTOOLS!! Let me summarize our experience and lack of Customer Service. 1. Took a picture of Patio Furniture we found in SC and they told us they could get the exact same thing. Their original price was DOUBLE the price than in SC. But, they asked what they had to meet to keep business local. Which they did and said we would have the set in 3 weeks. 2. On May 29th we placed the order and as we signed the invoice, they wrote delivery would be 4+ weeks. When asked what happened to the 3 week time frame, they stated this was just to protect them. 3. Over SIX weeks later, they delivered everything BUT the table. When asked where our table was, they admitted they overlooked that when they placed the order. 4. 2 weeks later we received a call that the table was in and to come pick it up. When I picked it up it was missing the glass top. They told us they didn't think we wanted that and it would cost an additional $42 dollars! I reluctantly told them to order it. 5. I got a call Friday 9/5/14 in the am and told the glass top is being shipped and should be here 9/9 or 9/10. Friday afternoon I received a call and was told that it is out of stock and the do not know when to expect it in! TOO MANY DIFFERENT EXCUSES!! I found the glass top at Hobby Lobby today and this nightmare is over with Altman's. I have much more to share if you ever have the SLIGHTEST urge to buy from them. Our advise, if you can not Cash and Carry ...... RUN!! RUN the other way just as fast as you can!! read more

My husband and I have recently purchased a hot tub and have been very confused about the starting up process. We did not purchase the hot tub directly from Altman's Billiards & Barstools although we wish we would have! They have been so helpful throughout the entire process. Altman's helped relocate our hot tub from the sellers house to ours. They made the 1,000 pound move look easy! Nathan and the other 3 movers were very friendly and gave input on where the hot tub should be sat. I have spoken to Joe in the Urbana office at least 10 times regarding chemicals and spa care needs and he has been extremely helpful and patient with me. Bob at the Bloomington office, impressed me with his knowledge and has helped us with different service questions and is very quick to return phone calls! My husband and I will go through Altman's for everything we need from here on out. I highly recommend them for all your leisure activity needs! read more
