This was an incredible thrift store! In my opinion, this is like a thrift store fun house if you enjoy wanting to get lost at a store. There's plenty of stairs involved if you're wanting to check out the whole store. Endless selection of items on the main floor, tons of furniture always being featured too. Then you got a whole upstairs sections with all your end tables and a whole basement full of chairs. Another set of stairs that'll take you back to the main floor. Crazy random selection of relics and antiques from the bygone eras of experimental quality materials and enjoyable pop colors. Nothing quite for my style but a thoroughly enjoyable walk through! Prices seemed to be fair and well meaning but I'm sure some pieces are set too optimistic for the average client for a small city. Check out my photos! Used to really like neighborhood thrift. The last couple years their prices have gone up a lot and I have not frequented it as much. Yesterday, I went to the habitat for humanity restore after seeing a dresser I wanted to look at listed for $60. It was gone by the time I got there. Then, I saw it posted and sold for $180 on neighborhood thrift's website. Really frustrating to have a community business reselling items for 2x the price from a place where low income people can find good furniture. Not good community business practice. read more

I was in the area and googled Thrift Store and that was the closest one. I was hoping for clothes but they don't have any at all. What they have is some really nice furniture if you're into antiques. Staff was very friendly and even helped me with a special wish regarding delivery (yes they offer delivery for 30$ no matter how many pieces you purchase). So much stuff at reasonable prices. Don't forget to follow them on Facebook - nearly daily they post photos and prices of new items. The guys that work here were exceptionally friendly and had great knowledge of the pieces. I understand they also run an auction house. I ended up buying three turkish rugs and a setee. They helped me load up my Prius - much appreciated. Also this store is so fun because there are so many nooks and crannies to explore. Upstairs is a room filled with nightstands. The basement has so many amazing chairs at very reasonable prices. I would happily make the drive over to visit with them and find more goodies again! Great store! read more

Should be called: Neighborhood Mostly Furniture Kind of Thrift Store Store. When I think of a thrift store I think of...well...a little bit of everything. This store has a lot of old furniture and that's it. So it's like, an old ass furniture store. I'm just saying: accuracy is key here. Anyway, they have a lot of cool pieces: dope mid-century modern stuff, cool floor lamps, interesting tapestries, retro glassware etc. A little bit of everything, furniture-wise. The prices are okay; obviously if it's MCM, it's pretty pricey, but everything else was relatively reasonable. Not EXACTLY thrift store prices,even though the name of the store leads one to believe otherwise. There are 3 floors. The main one has everything; the basement smells like mold and has 2 rooms filled with chairs and a small boombox blasting the radio; the upstairs room is tiny and has other random furniture pieces plus some glassware. I like to go in here and have a look around whenever I'm in the area; they really do have some interesting vintage pieces. read more

This "thrift store" is one of the biggest shams in this community. They regularly buy items from Re-Store (Habitat for Humanity), Goodwill, Bro-menn Thrift, Abundant Thrift, etc) and jack up prices a minimum of 50-100% and "resell" in their store. I've seen an item sold at Goodwill for $10.99 that Neighborhood Thrift bought, then sold for $39, couch bought for $45, sold for $75, statue bought for $5.99 sold for $29. Decor items bought at Bromenn for $12.99, sold at Neighborhood Thrift for $30. Furniture bought at Bloomington Re-Store bought for $20, sold for $45 at Neighborhood Thrift. Other household items bought at Abundant Thrift for $1, sold for $20 at their store. These are just a few examples. There are so many more. They are literally taking affordable items from the community and jacking up the price. They claim they "scour attics and basements far and wide" but they are actually just thrift store shopping and tripling prices. They claim they are a community business...not very community oriented. It's all a marketing sham. It makes me sick that well meaning people are donating goods to various thrift stores thinking those items will be available at affordable prices for community members when in fact, Neighborhood Thrift is driving around in their truck and mass purchasing items and jacking up the price. They are literally taking advantage of members of this community...and taking affordable items out of the hands of people that need them. Don't support this business. They couldn't care less about the community. Just greedy scam artists. And note: EVERY TIME they have a date on the price tag, it's ALWAYS 1977. I've google searched many of these items...and NO, not from 1977. It's a scam to make people think items are "vintage" when they're not. Don't be fooled. read more

Utterly addictive! I find really quality furniture at half or less than furniture shops and this stuff is made from WOOD nor particle board. Have bought over 30 pieces of great furniture - desks, tables, chairs, curios, bookcases, PLUS accent pieces and vintage books. A TREASURE! Great assortment from modern to mid-century/1950's to classic traditional. Totally love it and the service is great. read more

Best thrift store in the Blo-No area! After I saw the add in the Vidette that there was a new thrift store I knew I had to check it out. Unfortunately I lost the paper and there were no results for it on the internet at all! I started thinking it was a mirage until a friend and I stumbled upon a hand written sign posted on Empire St. Must have been a miracle! Hallelujah! We pulled up to the store and looked through their windows. Hmmm...looked like a furniture store. I thought oh great, over priced used furniture and no clothes. Little did I know, I was wrong...dead wrong. Walking into their store was like walking into grandma's house. Warm and cozy. Soft lighting, carpeting. The first room had jewelery, hats, shoes, dresses, some furniture, vintage posters, and dishware. $.50 shot glasses! The back room had a huge selection of books, some movies, and sheets and curtains on the other side. Everything in this store is displayed really well. Unlike other thrift stores you don't have to dig to find a treasure. The side room of the store (biggest room) was all furniture. They had everything ranging from hampers to desks to dressers, to armoires. The pieces were mainly wood and most were pretty old. Even though some were old the quality of wood was good enough so that the pieces still stayed sturdy and strong. I guess they don't make 'em like they used to. It was in this room that I found the cutest antique picture frame for $1! In the next room that was dedicated to clothes my friend found a retro rabbit fur coat for $10, and a kangaroo(?) leather wallet for I think $2! We went up to the counter to complete our purchases and the owners were so warm and friendly. I was shocked that this store has been open 4 months and I didn't even know it existed. I've been here before and bought items and loved them. Today I waited while people ahead of me got specialized help and care but when I was checking out it took less than a minute to pay but I wanted a fragile painting wrapped with paper. I was told to wait and the manager checked out other customers and helped them mark things around the store. I found this rude. I waited my time and I had already paid. Why did I have to wait for everyone behind me to be helped for the manager to do a task for me that takes 30 seconds. I just wanted the same thoughtful service everyone else seemed to be getting. I ended up leaving the store feeling unsatisfied with and an unprotected painting after waiting for several other customers to be helped instead of me. I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

Hmmm. For a thrift store the prices are not very "thrifty". Sometimes you can negotiate better prices and sometimes not. They also have a consignment section so if you have a bunch of home items you want to sell you could probably do so here. I have had the best luck finding unique art pieces here but like most thrift stores it is hot or miss you not every trip is successful. I have also sold them dining room chairs and a surround sound system. The workers are really nice. read more

I love this store! There is always such a unique selection that changes frequently. I found old yellow lockers. Just the unique item I was looking for to use for my sewing and craft supplies. They negotiated with me so I could satisfy my desire to own the lockers. I can't wait to find something to challenge my upcycling. Call them if you have stuff to sell- estates! read more

I think the name is misleading, not much of a thrift store. It's mostly used furniture in great shape. They offer really neat, unique pieces, but I think about half of it is overpriced. The neat stuff goes fast, so you have to be on top of it when it comes to their inventory. They post on social media and they are pretty good about responding to questions. You can "save" an item by calling them and purchasing over the phone, which is pretty nice. Overall, I like the place but I have yet to purchase because the good stuff goes fast and the rest of what I like is more than I am willing to pay. Just because something is vintage (or even "antique") does not mean it's valuable or priceless. read more

This location has cleaned up in the last 4 months or so. Initially, it was just LOADED with junk everywhere. Since then, gradually, more and more quality items seem to have arrived and their organization has gotten much better. I think they have a nice selection of furniture and some odds and ends around. I purchased a "new" couch from them based upon their Facebook description, and their description over the phone. When I arrived and noticed that the couch had demarcation spots from attempting to spot clean it, I was told once again that the couch was "new", and that they had never attempted to spot clean the couch. The dirt was due to transporting, and it would come out easily. I took the couch home with the understanding that if the spots did not come out, they would work toward a resolution. I called them after attempting to get the spots out, and was told they needed to speak with the owner, and they would call me back. It's been several days, and I still haven't received a phone call. Place was nasty, none of the furniture is cleaned, almost like they don't take time to clean their used products.

I have visited this store on a few occasions. The first time....so much clutter and junk...hard to see the great stuff that was there. People working there never spoke to us at all. Second visit still very cluttered, unclean items and management /employees were not very friendly at all. The last visit, things seem a bit more organized, still not very clean and prices seem much too high for the quality of items being sold. Customer service is definitely NOT a strong point.....waited over 20 minutes just to get a price on an item. We were treated as if we were interrupting their day.... Its nice to go there to browse all the old stuff that reminds me of my late grandmothers home. I wouldn't consider making any purchases from this store since they don't seem to value their customers. read more

I was in town for the weekend and was referred here by a relative who lives here. I don't understand the to-do reviews on this place. I thought it was FANTASTIC! The furniture was awesome for the most part (some used, some new I think) and VERY well priced in my opinion. I found 2 library card catalogs for $89 each, a real steal. The guy who rang me up was very friendly and 2 employees carried them to the car for me. I only wish I lived closer, I would come in here once a week! read more

This place is a gem. They have do have mostly furniture and home decor. The items are good quality at affordable prices. They have a lot of vintage/mid-century modern style pieces so if that is not your style this may not be the place for you. I had been looking for a solid wood dresser, which is unfortunately hard to find at a good price these days, and found just what I was looking for here. If you talk to the staff about what you are looking for, they will help you and also adjust prices depending on how long the item has been there. I felt like prices were higher than I was expecting but the items were very nice quality some looked practically new. Other things that were older/scuffed were still priced high though. I found a few olds & ends but didn't want to splurge on any of the furniture I saw that day. It'sjust hard to pay new store prices on used stuff, even if I KNOW that it's better quality because it was made back when real wood was used. To D.C., I agree about the pricing, however you do have to know how to shop here to get a good deal. I moved to Normal 2 years ago for grad school, & stopped in to try to find some cheap furniture for my apartment. I found a retro 60's night stand for $10, but aside from that the prices weren't doable. I ended up striking up a conversation with the manager & told him I was an ISU student looking for furniture. He asked me what I was looking for, & I told him, an office chair. He said "follow me" and took me to the chair section. He started sorting through the chairs trying to find the right one for my needs, & settled on a black cushioned chair with arms. He said, "how does $10 sound?" When I pointed out the $80 price tag, he said "no worries, I know you're a student." After that he asked if he could help me find anything else & I said "I'm also looking for a book case but haven't really seen any." He put his thinking cap on for a moment, & took me over to the used book section of the store. He asked, "do any of these book cases strike your fancy?" I pointed out a small 3-shelved case with books in it. He said "ok, how does $20 sound?" He then proceeded to pull all the books out to sell me a display book case that wasn't even for sale! At most thrift stores you can't even buy something if it doesn't have a tag on it yet, much less a display, so needless to say I was impressed with the service & friendly attitude of the manager. At checkout he told me he frequents auctions to pick up furniture at good prices. There is also a dollar section of the store that sometimes has some gems. The manager is great & helped me carry everything out to my car. I think the high prices make up for purchases such as mine, & invite a friendly bargaining process. It's not for everyone, but it is a kind of fun, different & personal way to purchase. read more

This place is a gem. That said, the owners know what they're doing and price things accordingly. Thus, it is going to be a bit more expensive than other generic thrift stores, but they have a ton of unique items and even though you pay more, there are better products and more of them. It's not that "Am I even going to find something here?" question you ask when you first enter any thrift store. It's more like, "Crap, I like a LOT of things here, and they're a little pricier than I can afford." There was a ton of furniture from cheap to expensive, ton of frames, knick knacks, etc. The family that owns it is awesome too, and super nice and helpful. I would TOTALLY recommend it. read more

Though this store has decent stuff they management is very rude and will not care for customer once the item is delivered . We bought a dressing table and it came with a skewed/crooked mirrors. We weren't able to notice that the reflection in the mirror was skewed when purchasing as it wasn't placed in a location good enough to test the mirror . After the dressing table was delivered ? We saw that the reflection on the mirror was skewed . We called and tried to explain to the store guy and the manager . Both were rude and didn't even bother to do anything . Instead they just responded very rudely . They didn't even don't bother to understand how skewed reflection the reflection and how important it is for a dressing table. This happened more like two years ago and I decided to leave a review because I think things like this shouldn't be overlooked . They are running a business and not a charity . If it is any other thrift store , it could have been different . This one shows off as they are not just any other thrift store but they didn't even have courtesy to understand what's going on. They got the money, delivered the item and then says "I don't know who you are " to the customer . I think every business who doesn't value customers should face consequences . I want to like this place because the shop owner seems so nice every time I'm here, but I just can not understand their pricing on furniture. I can buy new furniture for these prices. (Not that I do. I'm a resale only kind of person.) And to the other reviewer who said the pricing is worth it.....I walked in today and saw a 1970s/80s kitchen chair (nothing special about the design, you can pick these up for $5 at ReStore), painted pink and painted REALLY poorly and it was listed for $29. I also found a nice retro chair, but with scuffs for almost $200. Cute stuff, but in all the times I've been there I never buy anything. I just walk out shaking my head. I was going to a store nearby and dropped my wallet as I got out of my car. When I realized I didn't have my wallet and went back to the car hoping it was inside, the person running the thrift store came out, asked my name and gave me back my wallet. That's the type of person to do business with. I'm from out of state and just here for a wedding so no wallet, ID and credit cards would have been a big problem. read more

I happened to visit Hobby Lobby right after a visit to the Neighborhood Thrift Store. I saw 3 exact same items from the thrift store on the clearance shelves at Hobby Lobby. Thing is at the thrift store they were priced 3 times what they were at Hobby Lobby. I really don't think it was a coincidence. Looks like they shop clearance at Hobby Lobby and resell at premium prices. Just be aware. read more

WWWAAAAYYYY over priced for the stuff they have priced in there. You can buy it brand new for the prices they have in there. Go to a furniture store and get it new. You know they just paid someone a couple bucks and now they raised the price 200%. Worse than the pawn shops.
