I contacted Altmans to check ac unit and found that a pipe that had previously been repaired had once again failed this has been repaired at least twice before using solder. Now he tells me that the pipe needs replaced, why wasn't the pipe replaced the first or the second tim? read more

Horrible company. I paid several hundred dollars to be in their VIP maintenance plan. A simple compressor capacitor (~$10 from multiple sources) went bad and they charged $218 to replace it. Total time spent less than 15 minutes. read more

16 years ago we had Altman put in a new Rheem system in for us. We definitely got our money out of it! Sunday our compressor bit the dust. Called Monday morning and they were out by 1:00. By Thursday they had our new system in. I couldn't have asked for better service! The tech that was out Monday was not pushy, very informative and professional. The installers were equally professional, cleaned up after them selves, made sure I knew how to change filters and use the thermostat. Then to top it off their supervisor came by and introduced himself to me. So as usual Altman's didn't disappoint. read more

Just spoke with Gary Altman, the owner. I called regarding the Bryant AC (Carrier's second label that was installed by Altman's when the house was built in 2017). He advised that it's out of warranty since May 2022, 1 year 1 month. He denied that they have been out here to add refrigerant 2x in 2 years. The first time there was no charge, but this time they charged me $181. He advised that I need a new coil (3k) or to replace the system (10-14k). Gary Altman advised they have no record of coming out here at all, except for 2019 for the previous owners for a leak. Kind of proves my point that this system is a lemon, is only 6 years old, and has always struggled to cool the house to 82 degrees. All Gary Altman kept repeating was, "That's unfortunate mmmkay but I don't make the equipment." Basically, tough, and that was that. Wow. Just my experience, but I would advise not to rely on Altman's, since even the owner doesn't stand by it very much. read more

We called Altman's cooling and heating around 10am, they were able to squeeze us into a busy day. We received a call MAYBE 30 minutes later and was told we would have a technician at our residents from 1-5pm. At 11:10 we got a knock on the door, it was Kristopher, the most professional person from any business to step in our house, super nice, super informative and above all very fast at fixing the problem! We purchased our unit from Altman's about 8 years ago. In that time we have had good service, until today. They have always arrived when they said they would or called if they were delayed. We called over a month ago to make an appointment. The time given was November 7, 1-5. We arranged our schedule and were available that time. 5 came and went with no contact. My wife called and got an answering service. About 5:20 we got 2 calls to explain basically that the technician was busy on other jobs that were repairs, not just a servicing. The lady then said "i didn't have to call you." The technician showed up about 5:35. He was defensive from his arrival saying how long the previous job had taken. We were irritated. He left without doing the job and said not to call Altmans again. We won't. I'm not sure what is different at their office but their service has gone from good to terrible. read more

10/8/2019, Called Altmans AC # 321-383-7910 this morning at 8:10am they were at our house by 10:30am. Quickly diagnose and started fixing the problem. Jason was Service Technician. My AC was intermittently blowing cool air and then warm air. I called Altman's on a late evening (told them that it wasn't an emergency) and they sent out a technician first thing the following morning. I told Tyler what the AC was doing and he knew exactly what to look for. He fixed the issue in about 10 minutes and then took some extra time to look over the unit for any other issues. He didn't try to upsell me on parts or service I didn't need. He was honest, good at his job AND HE SHOWED UP which seems to be an issue for Floridians. The cost for service was more than fair. For those reasons, I signed up for their VIP service and will now use Altman's on a continuous basis. Until they do me wrong, I highly recommend Altman's Cooling & Heating. I delt with Altmans this past summer when my ac was not working. They worked on my ac for 4 different times and it still does not work.. My unit is less than 5 yrs old. These visits with some young guy telling me that the system was froze up. He said he chipped some ice away but still needed more to melt so left unit open so the heat could melt the rest. He came back and said that my system had a leak and after 4 hours of him and another tech looking at it said that they would need $500 to fix it. I told him tht he must have made a leak when he chipped away ice. He got disgusted and left and i have been left with no ac since the end of July. When there really not that much to begin with. You may want to reconsider using Altman's. They were recommended to my and after checking their ratings online I decided to give them my business. Don actually made it by the very day I called and told me the problem with my unit was that it needed cleaned - and charged nearly $200 to clean it. I asked him if that didn't fix the unit what would be the next thing to try - would it be refrigerant? But was pleased when he told me that if lighting didn't strike we should be just fine. The next morning the unit was no longer working and I called back and they sent Josh out. He told me that Don had informed him the night before that our unit was 20 years old and shot. He had no answer for why Don told me it was in good shape and him that it was not. After he checked the system he said in fact it needed refrigerant - but that meant there was a leak and it would cost nearly $200 to check for the leek + whatever it took to fix the leak then $60 per pound for the replacement refrigerant - estimated at 3 pounds - with no guarantees. I asked what he would do if it were him and he said he would not put $100 in it. Monday morning I called the manager and explained I felt like I'd been sold snake oil as his service tech told me the unit was fine and took my money when he knew the unit was on its last leg - I requested a refund for the service. He claimed he would have to discuss that with the owner but he would call me the very next morning. I'm still waiting on that call - it's been 2 weeks. They are not professional, and only care about scamming people. Charge you for service and no deliver. Called to service and did not show up on time and left in a hurry. Left garbage on my walkway. They are bad about not putting filters in the air conditioners when they come for service call. I guess it cost to much to replace the one they take out and service call amount don't cover a new filter. What air conditioning company does not bring filters in ad replace when changing them. Called to complain and they did not care. Owners are rude, unprofessional, and do not know how to run a business properly. read more

Worst experience ever! Definitely bypass this company if cost is a factor. After researching other companies for the same job, I discovered they were charging close to 50% higher than others! Extra charges thrown in at customers expense along with discourteous receptionists make this company a losing proposition! Do not hire these people!! read more

We've used them a few years ago and again today. Very dependable, very honest. They came out when they promised, and only fixed what needed to be fixed - a wire that was causing a short. Could've run the bill up very high but he did a good, honest job on the A/C & was very friendly, professional, and courteous. read more

I will compliment them that they were the only AC company that responded quickly to my email inquiry from their website. When the secretary called me back, I had to talk with a product specialist to discuss the specs of the system, another specialist about AC in general, and then to a salesman to discuss the price. None of the people I spoke with were able to tell me anything about the product outside of the full written description I had already read on the internet. Now there are 4 employees who needed to be paid at this point..., The price quoted was $6000 which I thought was a little high, but I asked for their estimator to come out and get a more specific quote to see what was included in that price or to see if they would come down. I think the estimator, Brian, came out the following day and on time. He took all of five minutes to tell me that my old system could stand to be replaced. He stated that my house needed a 2.5 AC, without looking around or measuring or asking me any questions. He laughed when I told him I wanted a 3 ton, but agreed to it. All over their website it states that they take into account lots of factors in sizing the proper unit. This is where the company lost its first points for professionalism. They lost more in connection with other things that Brian said would be done in the install that the Installers refused to do and things that Brian said did not need to be done that the installers said needed to be done. For example, I asked if the new, top of the line AC would need a different thermostat. Brian, using his fingers, made a very large rectangle shape around my thermostat and said "dont worry, your top-of-the-line air handler automatically comes with a huge touch screen thermostat." It came with a bottom of the line thermostat. When I complained about what was said by Brian, the assistant installer said "oh yeah, thats right, we were out of that one. We will order it and bring it to you. I forgot about that.." Two days later they came back with another bottom of the line thermostat. What I contacted Brian and told him about the situation he stated "WHAT I SAID DOESN''T MATTER. YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THAT IN WRITING. I WILL GET YOU ONE FOR $200." Brian also stated that Altmans will replace all insulation from the unit to the ceiling inside and outside. When I questioned the stallers Jason and Donald Compton, Jason replied "WE NEVER DO THAT. I WISH THEY WOULD TELL US WHEN THEY MAKE SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS LIKE THAT." When I called Brian he stated "THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THAT BY LAW". Here is another example: Brian stated that my old concrete slab was too small for the new condenser, Don and Jason brought a giant, thick condenser pad to my house. I was so happy! However, I quickly realized that they simply put the new pad on top of the old, moldy, discolored, slanted, broken slab! When I told Jason and Don that I was sorry, but they were going to have to redo the pad the right way, they both stated that that is how they always do it and it is fine. I was very upset because the slabs and condenser unit are tilted by about 3". I know that is what happens with condensers after 5 or 10 years, but my brand new $6880 unit? No way! I called Brian and he stated "That concrete slab has a Styrofoam bottom that is not allowed to sit on the ground." When I told him it does not have a Styrofoam bottom and that over 12 inches of the new slab were hanging over the edge of the old slab (just hanging over mid-air) and that I was highly concerned it will crack and or damage the condenser, he assured me that it will not break and that he will cover any damage, but he assured me that that is how his company is supposed to do it and that "it will pass inspection." I cannot speak on behalf of this because Altmans has yet to show me a permit and when I called to find out when the inspection would happen Altmans secretary said that the "inspection manager was out on vacation for the past week." Well, my AC was installed a full 2 weeks prior to my phone call. I have had to call about a dozen times in regard to the issues listed above and several others. Still on the topic of things BRIAN VERBALLY AGREED TO DURING THE ESTIMATE THAT DID NOT HAPPEN: Brian stated that the new air handler would need a condensate pump due to the new design, but they would do their best to use the gravity discharge I already had in place. SCAMMERS AND POOR TO NONEXISTANT QUALITY WORK! I shopped around for the best price on a central air unit as the old one was stolen when the house was vacant for a couple years (Titusville). They had the best price so I went with them. On day one of the installation their installer left my garage door wide open with the light on. I did not notice this until the next day. This was an open invitation for anyone on the street to walk right in and steal whatever they wanted. They finished installing the unit the following day, but I later found out that they never put in any air filters and had to put them in myself. I began having problems with the unit not cooling. I had to call them out for service four times to get any results. The first time the guy said to change the filters and that a line was clogged, he cleaned it and left. The unit still didn't work properly. The second time the guy said that the unit had frozen up due to the air flow being restricted by the air filters and said to remove one and only run on one filter instead of two as the unit is designed for. Still didn't work. Called them out a third time. A guy came out, looked at the unit for all of one minute, said to change the air filter (they were just changed) and left. He was not in my house for even a full five minutes, TOPS. He was in such a rush to leave he didn't even bother to collect the payment. After changing the filters yet again it still didn't work. I sat around for awhile with no AC, in Florida, in the summer because I was getting tired of paying for service calls and getting no service. After awhile I got fed up and decided that enough was enough and called them and spoke with the secretary and explained my situation. She asked me why I didn't call for another service call immediately after the last guy left if it still didn't work and I told her I was tired of paying for service calls and getting no service. I was then informed that their policy is that you are being charged for them to come to your house, not for any actual work being done and that any work is extra. Fine, but when you call for someone to come out to your house on a service call there is an expectation that the work will be done, not some bozo who comes out, does nothing, makes NO ATTEMPT WHATSOEVER to even find out what the problem is and then demands money because he knocked on your door. She was rude and kept interrupting me when I tried to say something. I asked her to stop interrupting me, she kept doing it and would not let me complete a sentence without her trying to argue I so I hung up. They sent another guy out on their FOURTH service call for the same problem. I told him about the last guy and he chuckled and said it must have been on a weekend because they hate to have work interfere with their leisure time. (It had been on a Saturday.) At least this guy actually did his job and found that the unit was clogged with dust and needed to be washed. He washed it and it has worked fine ever since. Come time to pay the bill I said that I would pay for the charges for his work but that I was disputing the charge for the guy who came to the house and did nothing. I then got a letter saying to pay up or they would put a lien on my house. I went to the office to speak to the manager in person who said he would see if he could take care of it. A worker butted in in the middle of the conversation and told me that I was just trying to get something for nothing and that he overheard me swearing at the secretary on the phone (a complete lie-I did get mad and raised my voice but I never swore). And as for the something for nothing comment- I'D HAVE TO GET SOMETHING FIRST before I could get it for nothing. THEY wanted something for nothing and that was my issue. I got another letter from the owner stating that they would not forgive the bill that I am disputing. I am perfectly able to pay this bill, but on principal I will be fighting it in court. You get what you pay for, from now on if I need any further service I will be more than willing to pay more for better service from another company. read more

I really don't want to provide an extensive amount of details here. I understand there will be delays with this type of work on a regular basis. Unfortunately, they will set expectations, reset expectations, and none of them will be true. When you bring this to their attention, the person who answers the phone is defensive and upset. Even if you are not very combative and just flustered that their promises continue to get delayed. Like I said, I understand delays, but when the delay is over 7 hours, and only get "they'll be there soon", until the phone answerer leaves for the day and still, no one has arrived. We are unable to reach anyone. No one can tell us if they are still coming, and cannot answer to tell us if we can leave without getting charged for a missed service call. We needed to leave the house, and due to the lengthy delay and lack of communication, we were stuck not knowing what to do. Honestly, we didn't mind a reschedule, we just wanted to know. The biggest issue, like I said goes back to communication. I don't mind delays, I understand delays. What I don't like is the owner getting on the phone and being extremely combative and providing nothing but excuses. Several time frames and call backs were missed, and the only thing he could do was defend the phone answerer and say "things happen". Which we explained several times, that we understood delays, our problem is based on communication and the combative nature of the phone answerer. Unfortunately, he spent the time defending his business and how it remained so successful. Luckily, based on the other reviews, I was able to end the relationship before it really started. I can't imagine, if this is the type of unintelligent behavior portrayed, there are a lot of repeat customers from those who do have and report minor issues. I may be wrong.
