BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! The doctors who are with this group do their jobs as well as any; however, the people in the business office apparently are too stupid to draw breath without written instructions. Oh wait! Apparently written instructions aren't going to do it either. I am retired, and it should be well understood by people in this type of business that Medicare is billed first, then private insurance. I went to the doctor yesterday, only to be turned away because my private insurance hadn't paid anything on four previous visits (although they HAD paid on others during the same time frame that had been submitted correctly). I called the insurance company who told me that they had refused payment because they had been billed first and said that they would need the office to provide Medicare's Explanation of Benefits. When I told those brainless wonders that, they said that wasn't true. They want a three-way conversation with the insurance company, BUT only during a two-hour time frame because apparently the only person who can do it only works two hours a day. This has been going on since last August (first visit not paid by insurance). Apparently there is no oversight, no supervision, no training and no intelligence employed in this office. If a claim isn't paid, they don't bother to do a follow up to find out why. Poorly run office with people who have their heads so firmly planted up their backsides that they will never see daylight again. When this matter is settled, I will have to find new doctors because the administrative workers are dumber than dirt! read more

I started coming here while I was pregnant to see Dr. Wikoff, who is now my OBGYN. I will say the wait time in the OBGYN was NEVER quick but Dr. Wikoff was very helpful and made my experience a good one. The staff at the front desk has always been professional and courteous. They seems to be personal and remember their patients. I now visit Alton Multispecialist for the pediatrics department. Dr. Lindsey is the absolute best!!! She is very personal and kind with children. She answers any questions parents may have. The best part of pediatrics I rarely wait 5 minute, they are very efficient with their time. The front desk and nurses in the pediatrics have also been great. I would recommend this place to others, especially Dr. Lindsey in pediatrics. read more

I recently switched from Dr. Cannon at SSM St. Anthony's as she is no longer going to be delivering babies. To be frank, she was usually too busy to see me, so I was usually making appointments with her nurse practitioner, Carrie Evans (who is great, by the way!), anyway. With family planning in my near future and having to spend over 100 hours observing in the OB department at Alton Memorial Hospital as part of a school assignment, I decided that Dr. Rachel Durham would be my best choice to switch to. I was so glad that I did. The nurses and staff always enjoy working with her. I can't begin to tell you how nice she is, and how hands-on or hands-off (whichever you prefer) she can be. I have enjoyed having her as my new OB/GYN. She stays calm during chaos during deliveries, which is needed. She is also very good about giving great advice, and never judges. I highly recommend Dr. Durham!! read more

The Dr's are wonderful. I love Dr. Stabell she actually tries to give her patients the time they need but her nurse is way too pushy and doesn't listen to what the patients are saying especially when you call for help. She tries to tell you what is what without even fully hearing what you need help with. She thinks she should decide what you need or don't need. She is rude. There use to be a really nice nurse that worked in there but someone transferred her to a different Dr and stuck us with this rude one a yr or so ago. I wish we could have the other one back. Really the patient and the Dr. knows better what is going on with them and about what prescriptions they may or may not need refilled than she does but she usually won't shut up long enough to let you tell her what you need. I would give it 5 stars if they had a better nurse. read more

I have been a patient at Alton Multispecialist for many, many years. I recently switched to a Gynocologist in the building, and really liked her. She was very thorough, she really listened to me and cared about my well being. I have been on a payment arrangement for a previous balance for a few months. They withdrew $20 a month from my bank account. I am currently about to get laid off for the winter so I called them and told them to stop withdrawing from my account. They didnt want to allow me to cancel my payment plan! (When I first asked for the payment plan, I wasnt even allowed to select the monthly payment, they advised me I HAD to pay $20 or more a month. I told them then, that I would be calling in the winter to cancel my plan, and they said that was not a problem.) I finally got through to someone in the billing department and they cancelled my EFT but told me they couldnt stop the collection process from happening and that I would need to continue to make some type of payment every 30 DAYS. The woman I talked to was rude and it was very uncalled for, especially so close to the holidays and with me getting laid off. Literally, the very next week, I got the call from their collection department wanting me to make a payment. I advised them that I couldnt make a payment, that they just got a payment from me 20 days ago, and I still had 10 days to make another payment before they started this collection process. Again, rudeness is what I was met with. I terminated the call. I went the very next day to my Gynocologist appointment. It was a Pre Op appointment, as I have been having some health issues and have decided a Hysterectomy is my last resort. This is an emotional thing to go through as a woman, and a huge decision to make. I showed up at check in, and they refused to sign me in until I made a payment. I advised them about the 30 day policy that I was told over the phone, and that I couldnt afford to make the payment until my Unemployment kicks in. I asked to speak to her boss, and she sent me to a little room to speak with two women, who I am not even sure which department they were from. I would assume Billing. I was already upset, it had been a very emotional morning for me, and I started crying. The lady advised me that they cancelled my appointment for that day, that I would not be seen by the doctor until I made a payment, and that my surgery would be cancelled until my balance was paid in full! I couldnt believe it! I started crying harder, the woman came to me to "escort me out" and I told her to give me a minute to compose myself! I was literally having a panic attack, and these two women just stood there and watched me. She had the nerve to say to me, that I needed to compose myself or she would terminate the conversation. They were cold, heartless women that day. The level of disrespect that I was shown, was disgusting. I was so heartbroken to know that this huge decision I made for myself, to get this surgery, and ever appointment leading up to that day, was all for nothing. Because I couldnt pay my balance in full? Because I get laid off during the winter? They asked me about my last paycheck and why I couldnt afford $20 to pay to them. I told them the bills I had to pay. I am pretty sure that information was none of their business. Their response? "AMS has bills to pay too!" Thats when I felt as if my needs no longer mattered. I left the building on my own, crying the whole way. I had another panic attack in my car in the parking lot. Because of these women. These heartless, stone cold women. I got a letter in the mail a few days later, saying I would no longer be seen by any physician in that building. How am I to blame? Why am I being punished? Because I was emotional? Because I cried? I have rights. But they took them away that day. read more

BEWARE! If you are admitted in the hospital with two health insurance, have emergency surgery and your secondary insurance is Medicaid. This Dr. S. who was on-call does not accept it. The doctor was fine, but they could have at least told me before the surgery this the doctor did not accept Medicaid. This facility sent me a certified letter stating that they could not see me again, but I only saw them that one time while I was in the hospital and never went back. I really don't care to go back, so you could have just kept that certified letter. read more

Wouldnt take a stray dog to this group. I got a call from my daughter that my 10yr grandson got hurt at school, possible broken ribs and hand. Both his parents work over a hour away and she told me she had already called doctor for this emergency and asked that i pick him up and take him. I couldnt get him pass registration cause i didnt have his insurance card. I explained it was an emergency and none of his insurance had changed as this has always been his doctor. Lady at registration was extremely rude and obnoxious. She told me she was cancelling the appt cause i didnt have insurance card and that he couldnt be seen. This was 1:58 pm and appt was for 2:10 pm. I retired from same union his dad works for so i called office to see if they could verify insurance or fax a copy to doctors office and lady at registration refused to even talk to them and told them she was cancelling appt. Now i have a 10yr old upset, in pain..and this rude employee cancelling our emergency visit..really??? My daughter (a nurse) called the doctor direct and they came down and got him. Now i know why i switched al my doctors from alton multispecialist to riverbend physicians. Its called quality care.! read more
