Food here is always delicious and the margaritas are top tier. I got the burrito Jalisco last night and it was very good. Let's get to the service. Our waitress was very sub par unfortunately. This is not the first time I have experienced this here, which led me to leave the review. No refill on chips? Maybe that's normal for them not sure? But we had a table of like 12. Very limited on drink refills, but at least she asked that. When we told her we had two more still coming (eye roll). She still got tipped well from everyone, but I can think of a lot of other Mexican restaurants in town where everyone is very friendly. The atmosphere was clean well kept etc there's a lot of space. Came back on a different day for another great experience, but unfortunately the service was beyond horrible this time around. From the start, the server acted like she was doing us a favor just by talking to us. Every interaction felt rushed and uncomfortable, and somehow each time she came back to the table, she seemed even more upset than before. The food itself was still solid, which makes the service even more frustrating. Cleanliness was fine and the place still looked well kept, but none of that makes up for being made to feel unwelcome. It's disappointing because the food has real potential, but bad service can completely ruin the experience. Until that's addressed, it's hard to want to come back again. read more

This is now one of my favortite mexican american spots. They're one of the few places that have chile rellenos. Whatever kinks they originally had have definitely been worked out. We weren't planning to stop in before our movie at Alamo Drafthouse, but a margarita sounded good...and Altos de Jalisco did not disappoint! Seating was immediate, and the large, clean dining area has tables spaced apart nicely, so you can have privacy and easily hear your dining companion. Our friendly, attentive server recommended the Altos Fresh Margarita, and fresh it was! Hands down the freshest margarita I've ever had. After snacking on their unlimited, not-too-salty chips and salsa, our tacos arrived. Three tacos per plate, topped with the traditional cilantro and onion, served with Mexican rice and refried beans. I love how generous they are with the cilantro, and the corn tortillas had the right texture (read: not too thick but didn't fall apart the minute we picked them up). Strongly recommend the al pastor, and (always) ask for extra lime. Boyfriend and I agreed - we found our new taco spot and will be back for another round of Altos Fresh Margaritas! Dined in on a Monday night and boy was it packed! Nonetheless service was incredible. They always start you off with chips and salsa which is always good because the chips are nice and fresh and the salsa is so good. Decided to have chicken fajitas and it was good. This location has a large seating area and a large bar that would be great for events with family or friends. On a Saturday night, my family of 6 was seated within minutes and they are well staffed which made the experience all the better. The Beria taco meat was a bit tough and the tortilla fell apart as soon as it was folded, but that was the only downside to the meal. The restaurant is located in a busy shopping area just off of I-81. We went there for an early dinner after a movie at the Alamo Draft House Theatre. The menu has all of the regular Mexican dishes and has quite a variety of choices. We started off with their chips and an order of quacamole. The quacamole was fresh and flavorful, as were the warm chips with a good salsa. My sweetheart had the steak quesadillas that she enjoyed. I had the steak fajitas with all of the fixings. I was really surprised by the amount of steak and vegetables that were served and thought that it may have been fajitas for two. Aside from the meat being slightly overdone, my meal was good. I would recommend this place for a fast mexican food fix, but in all honesty, it is just another nondescript Mexican place. I have one complaint about this restaurant which was the waiter was very frazzled and kind of mean at the beginning because we did not know what we wanted to eat (mind you we had never been there until this visit), his attitude eventually changed and he was funny and pleasant. My daughter and I came here for dinner on a Sunday. The place was packed almost all the seats were taken which is a good thing. When we sat down we noticed the Christmas tree was prominently displayed and the current NFL game was playing. The restaurant was loud but not too loud but loud enough to know it was busy. The chips came out hot and the salsa was flavorful and very good, not too spicy not too bland but just delicious. The chorizo dip we ordered was delicious warm and creamy and a perfect consistency. Both of our food was great it came out semi quickly but in enough time that since this was a busy day we weren't waiting outrageously long. Thanks for ruining dinner!! Took about 25 minutes to get a table, no problem. I get it, it's Valentine's Day. We sat down, ordered our food, a very long time later we get our food except my husband order is completely wrong. Not what he ordered at all. The runner looked at us like we were stupid when we told him but still no big deal. Mistakes happen. But then we waited for almost an hour, my daughter finished her food, my food was cold at this point and my husband still has not gotten his food. In the span of almost an hour the waitress came by ONE time to say the food was coming. It never came. We asked to cancel the order and get the check and she didn't seem to care at all. No customer service whatsoever. The manager came over and we told him what happened and he didn't care either. His excuse was "well we're busy". So needless to say if you want mediocre Mexican food go somewhere else. Somewhere with some customer service. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and we won't be going back. P.S. The servings were generous and tasty, actually more than we usually eat, but we were provided with containers to take away uneaten portions. Their house chardonnay was good, as well as the service. This unassuming Mexican grill on the end of the strip mall is well manicured with a welcoming atmosphere. I sat at the bar, whose stools were roomy and comfortable, and was greeted promptly. The mezcal margarita was a fun smoky expression of the drink. The chorizo queso was good- maybe a bit small (though is there ever enough?). The fajitas was a huge portion too but the 3 leches cake was very disappointing- Hershey syrup on it ( or a fake chocolate syrup on top) and it was dry and tasteless- we left it after 2 bites- ugh. The servers were great. The food was dry.. I got some tacos. Wifey got the quesa-birria and those were not it at all. Made with plastic tortillas and the birria was way too salty.The "consomé" which is supposed to have a couple ingredients was just tasteless grease. And the server misunderstood and gave me a side of rice and beans. Which was tasteless and mushy. I paid about $20 for the meal. I should have ordered a meat taco with no meat, that way I would have paid far less and got all the trimmings. First visit and maybe there are some kinks to work out. The interior is beautiful. We love the new brickwork. My husband had the Burrito Grande with Chicken and a side of Black Beans. He enjoyed the burrito, the black beans were seasoned well but needed more cook time. I had 2 Potato Enchiladas and 2 Bean Enchiladas. I felt they needed some oven time. Tasted as though the filling was tossed into the tortillas and sauce spread and served. Rice was good portion, pretty standard taste. I asked for a side salad with lettuce and Pico like some other places serve but I guess they don't offer that because I didn't get it. The star of the dinner and reason for the third star was the Guacamole and Salsa. Delicious! We were surprised that our server didn't offer us chips and salsa when we sat down but we saw another server greeting guests at the door with chips and bowls of salsa so perhaps it was a big oversight. We had to order salsa with our chips and Guac. Our chips were sporadically over fried but taste was ok. My husband was disappointed there is no spicy salsa. When we asked, the server said they only have bottled hot sauce. Also, most all the other Mexican restaurants offer Chile Toreados, even off menu, but not here. Overall not a 'can't wait to go back experience' like we were expecting. I've seen other great reviews so hopefully they get their consistency worked out. What an awesome way to begin our Saturday out! It has been SO long since I've been in an establishment that was as clean and well run as Altos De Jalisco. We were greeted immediately, and sat just as fast. The waiter was to our table within a minute. We placed our drink and appetizer order, and we had all of that in under 5 minutes. The cheese dip was delicious. Not heavy like some places. The chips and salsa were dropped off as well. I ordered the chicken fajitas, and it could not have been done any better than it was. It was all cooked, beautifully and tasted just how you would expect. To recap: The staff is quick and efficient. The food is phenomenal! The decor is tasteful and beautiful. The cleanliness appealed to me the most, though. No excuse to ever dine in a filthy establishment, and here, I didn't have to give my silverware or plates a second thought. REFRESHING!
