For my daughters first time to a library she loved it. As an adult aware of my surroundings not my favorite library. I appreciate the security guard for being there but not really sure what he is watching for. His head was down the entire time I was in there. The staff was okay. I stood in line to get a physical card and the employee either ignored or just wasn't paying attention that I was standing in front until the security guard who was not at his post said "hey you have a customer" The bathrooms were filthy. I understand we as humans expect each other to clean up after ourselves but when people don't and you work at this facility please have an employee clean the bathroom. Book options in the children section very impressive. They had computers for kids and for toddlers. Comfy sitting areas including a tiny castle. Perfect for a hot afternoon to relax and read. Sadly this is a close library for me so I might go back. Just hoping they can improve.

I love going to libraries. This place however was not as enjoyable as I want it to be. The place is small with a confusing parking lot. I didn't know where to park and so I had to go to the parking lot on a different establishment and walked my way over there. When I finally found their actual parking lot which was on the left side of the building, there were grocery carts and vehicles parked over there which were clearly used by homeless people. Me and the kiddo came here because we saw an event for teens held in this library that involved drawing and manga. She had invited her friends to meet up in here and spent two hours in the community center. When we initially inquired about such event, the guy by the counter doesn't have the faintest idea of what I was asking about and had to flag someone else to give me answers. When we came to the community center it was toasty hot inside, mainly because they just finished off with the free lunch program for kids (they turned off the a/c during this time - idk?!?!?!) Now the library itself was well ventilated with a/c, I am just curious why they don't provide it to the community center which is part of the library. Anyhoo.... While waiting for the kiddo and her friends to finish with the teen event, I had a mini project that I decided to do in the library - making those flower pens for the office which I make every summer... I found myself what I thought would be a quiet and cozy table by the corner and started doing my thing ...until a guy came and gave this weird vibe. I tried to ignore him while he was mumbling to himself, then he stood up and struck and loud heated/irrational conversation with some other person regarding some newspaper which is when I was mentally red flagging him. He came back after sometime and then minutes later was trying to strike a conversation with me. I was congenial enough to answer his curiosity about my project which I finished in time and then packed up my stuff to leave. Talk about an unusual encounter. Since there is still more time to kill, I went to Orchard supply which is next door and spent the time there by the nursery instead.

Rules are rules.Don't be a jerk.

Great library but Mexicans stay outside and smoke. They go back in and they smell. Staff needs to do something about it!

I was shocked when they had a few new book releases that were still on the shelf and not checked out. As for movies and shows, they have a huge selection of media. There were a few movies I was specifically looking for but all of the copies are on hold. Most notably, I was shocked how expansive their games selection is. They had a massive offering of Xbox, PS4/PS5 and Switch games. Everything here was clean, staff was nice and it was poppin' on a Saturday. Thankfully they have a parking garage and we had to park on the third floor just because of how busy it is. Support your public libraries!!

The library is relatively new with several little rooms for meet ups etc. and a larger auditorium where they have book sales and classes/lectures. There's also a way to get discount tickets through the library, but I have never done it myself (I think you need to check in the first of the month or something). The library is clean and well kept, and the books have been in relatively good condition. The DVDs are often damaged, but I haven't found any circulation of DVDs that isn't like that. Library also has eBooks and the ability to place holds via the website or app. Holds are picked up to the left of the parking structure entrance in the first set of shelves on the left as you walk past the self checkout kiosks.

When my daughter was little, she loved reading in one of the cozy upholstered circular reading nooks in the Children's Room. Besides books/audiobooks/DVD's/CD's, you could borrow park passes, various kinds of board games, puzzles and kits (such as stargazing telescope kit, pollinator kit, ukulele kit, gardening kit, and sewing machine kit.) Recently, I've noticed that you could even borrow an induction cooktop. They also offer free 3D printing (1 per month), and drop-in tech help. They have a seed library as well. They have a technology lab, and you could reserve study rooms. The library also hosts different events for adults and children. I attended the "Summery Vegetable Success" event in the Technology Lab on Sunday. The speaker, a UC Master Gardener, was very experienced, and her talk was very interesting and informative! I feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful library in our community.

I had a very disappointing experience today, September 3, at the San Jose Almaden Branch Library…read more As a resident of the Almaden area for more than 15 years, I have used this library frequently for working and studying and have always appreciated having it as a community resource. Today was my first time reserving one of the group meeting rooms because I had an important Zoom meeting scheduled from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. With the assistance of a library staff member, I successfully reserved the room and received an email confirmation. About five minutes after my Zoom meeting had started, the branch manager interrupted my meeting and told me that I needed to leave because the room belonged to someone else. Since I saw that a group of children was waiting to use the room, I cooperated and left without arguing. After my meeting, however, I showed the manager my confirmation email, which clearly demonstrated that I had reserved the room correctly. I was then told that there had been a system error and that the room had been double-booked. What I found most upsetting was not the system error itself, but the way the situation was handled. Before asking me to leave in the middle of my meeting, the manager did not check my confirmation email or first verify whether I had made a valid reservation. Instead, I felt that it was immediately assumed that I was the one who had made a mistake. As an Asian woman, I also could not help but wonder whether I was being treated differently, particularly because the other party involved was white. I cannot know the manager's intention, but the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable, dismissed, and disrespected. I understand that technical errors and double bookings can happen. However, I believe the appropriate response would have been to first verify both reservations, explain the situation respectfully, and work with both parties to find a solution rather than abruptly asking one person to leave an ongoing meeting. After being a longtime resident and regular user of this library, I was extremely disappointed by today's experience. I hope the library will review both its room reservation system and how staff handle situations like this so that all patrons are treated with courtesy, fairness, and respect.
