We found Josh at a stressful time during the tail end of our kitchen remodel. Our general contractor, who has done an amazing job with all other aspects of our kitchen remodel, called us into the kitchen just in time to see a bunch of our expensive tile sliding down the wall and their poor tile subcontractor almost in tears. Apparently we had invested in some of the most complex mosaic glass tile to work with and needed to find an experienced tile pro if this was going to happen to plan. Of the three tile pros I called, Josh was the only one to contact me back right away, and showed up a couple days later to assess the scene and provided a bid the same day. Once work began, Josh and his assistant Chono spent the better part of the first day meticulously measuring out and planning the install, and two more days to set and grout the tile. When we were undecided about a grout color, Chono even made a nice mockup panel for us to look at before he came back the last day to grout the tile. Now that the tile has dried, it looks absolutely beautiful. I love that they took the time to make sure that the pattern aligned perfectly with the window, and their attention to detail is completely evident in the small crevasses and receptacles they tiled around, rebuilding our pattern with tiny cut pieces. Apart from the install, Josh was easy to communicate with over email and texts, always on time, left the work area neat and tidy, and came in right at the estimated price, no surprises. This is a long-overdue review for the expert, professional, high quality, and enjoyable work that Alvarez Tile did for us over Thanksgiving weekend 2020. Like the other reviews here, I wholeheartedly recommend Josh and his father for your project. We bought our dream tile, Artobrick, at the local Long Beach Tile Zone and George recommended Alvarez Tile. I also recommend Tile Zone! Josh gave me a complete quote covering all aspects of the work from the start. Nothing changed, all work was performed exactly as stated at the outset without any surprises or upcharges. Josh troubleshoots the project from the get-go and is thorough. I did say the work was enjoyable which sounds strange, I know, but if you've had a disaster in your home from a contractor before then I can assure you the prep work they do is a dream. There was no tracking debris in and out. The workspace was isolated and our home was disturbed as little as possible. Artobrick tile is installed one tile at a time. If you are getting this kind of tile, stop looking for other bids- Alvarez is the contractor you need. The prep with a cement float and the one-by-one tile installation was incredible to watch take shape and the included tile floor trim we added and tricky corners - all superb. After a few small earthquakes, I can say nothing has cracked, not even a grout seam. And if the amazing floor wasn't enough - Josh made our lives so much easier by installing our vanity and mirrors all with total precision. Then added our tile backsplash with expert corner!. I don't even know where to start, I could literally talk about how amazing Alvarez Tile is all day. I guess I'll start from the beginning. We bought a major fixer upper almost 5 years ago. We have been slowly fixing it up since then. We have done a lot of the work ourselves but when a job was beyond our scope we have had to hire people here and there. Of all the work we have had done on our home over the years, working with Alvarez Tile has been by far our best experience. I can say with 100% certainty that we will be working with them again in the future. Josh and his team are simply the best. They are professional, knowledgeable, courteous, punctual and oh so talented. Josh is a perfectionist and extremely detail oriented. He advised us on several different ways we could go about our bathroom remodel and helped us decide the most practical and cost effective option. There was no question too small for him to answer (believe me my husband always has a ton of them) and he really took his time to explain everything to us. Most importantly he did exactly what he said he was going to do and finished in the amount of time he said he would. Our bathroom turned out way better than I could have imagined. Even though it should feel smaller considering we put in a vanity when we only had a pedestal sink before, it actually feels much bigger because of the spectacular and precise planning Josh and his team did. I am still in awe every time I walk into my new bathroom and it has been finished for over a month now. We have been in our home for 21 years and always talked about a bathroom remodel. It wasn't until we got our son through college when it was time to do something for ourselves. We started by researching and talking to our family and friends for referrals. I also have had good success on finding quality people through yelp. When I saw Alvarez tile I decided to include them in the bid process. Here is my review: 1. Introduction-We met with Josh Alvarez who owns Alvarez Tile and my wife and I were impressed with his knowledge and expertise. He answered our questions and offered many suggestions. He made himself available for calls and texts as we were narrowing our search. One thing he highly recommended was to do concrete floating walls rather than hardiebacker board. It was more in cost but the long term benefits outweighed the cost. 2. The Estimate- Josh emailed the estimate for the job which was very detailed and broken down for each part of the job. After getting all our questions answered and making decisions on what part of the job we would hire Josh for, we went ahead with Alvarez Tile. 3. Demo Day- First thing the crew did is prepare our home by putting Ram Board down through out the entire walk area they were going to be using. They put up from floor to ceiling, plastic barriers along with plastic coverings on our furniture through out the area, It was very dusty on demo day but having the barriers and plastic up helped. 4. Availability- When you spend a good sum of money, you want someone that is available to answer questions. Josh always got back to us and gave us confidence that we hired the right person. 5. The Craft- Floating walls and laying tile may look easy but it is a craft. Josh and his crew took pride in their work and it showed, Josh is a perfectionist and wants t make sure everything is precise. His work is his resume and it showed. 6. The Little Things- Josh cut stone we bought to create shelves above our vanity. He and a helper also helped with installing the mirror and towel bars. My wife wanted a shaving shelve to shave her legs and Josh had her show him the height she wanted it. Little things but they make a huge difference. Our tile and stone we bought at Floor and Decor- We were able to buy it with no interest and pay it off over 12 months. We also were able to bring back any tile that was unused and get a refund. Our Vanity Top we bought at Builder's Surplus (Recommended by Josh). They were able to cut the marble top which already had a sink in it. Josh did some small cuts to fit it in on our vanity. Vanity- Bought at Cabinets 2 Go. We highly recommend Josh and Alvarez Tile!! They do quality work and are professional and dependable! Josh is an impressive young man and we don't hesitate to recommend him to others. Do yourself a big favor and include Josh and Alvarez Tile in your Bid process.
