FPL had a short in the main power line feeding our house. The result was several circuits to our appliances were dead. Rich, with his considerable expertise, was quickly able to diagnose the problem. A transformer in the transfer switch assembly was blown and it affected some of the load shedding units. Parts we're ordered and everything was fixed within a couple days. We also had an issue with the generator kicking in and running even when there was no power outage. The generator would run until manually turned off. This made it impractical to leave the generator in standby mode. Rich was able to fix this, too. As an added measure for peace of mind we installed Mobile Link, on Rich's recommendation, to keep us advised 24/7 on the status of the generator. Works perfectly. Our 11 year old backup generator works better than when it was new. We strongly recommend Star Generation for all your generator service, maintenance and installation needs. Mine, unfortunately, is on my roof but there is there an access ladder on the side of my 3 story townhouse. (important to note that my AC is also on the roof and I get that serviced) So thus begins my story. Reliable was recommended by a neighbor to service my all house generator, so I reached out and scheduled an appointment as they were also recommended by the brand of generator that I have. I purchased an annual service plan and they came out quickly, replaced the battery, did a tune up and helped me get it up on line with the app since I didn't have wifi when the generator was installed. I was very pleased with the level of service. Fast forward 6 months when I got a service disruption message on the app. I called to have them come out. Their service rep shows up to do the work but says he has no ladder to to access the ladder that is on the side of my unit and that someone will call to reschedule. I wait 5 days for them to call and then call them back and they say they will be there the next day. Great. The next day I get a text confirming they will be there and that I am the 2nd appointment. 5 hours later I call to see if they are still coming and then they tell me they don't have the right technician or equipment to do the job. All of a sudden it's a 2 man job and they don't have the people to do the work. This back and forth trying to get the unit serviced went on for a couple of more weeks. Customer service is very hard to reach. They will not put you through to the manager, Daniel, they say they are going to call you back, they don't- I actually had to have someone else call from a different number and a pretend address to get through to a live person. Ridiculous! Long story short- they did the right thing and fulfilled the maintenance contract that I had and then promptly sent me an email that they were cancelling future work on the unit given it was on the roof and hard to access. So the three star rating is for knowing their stuff when they actually show up, and fulfilling their obligations which I appreciated. I just wish it hadn't taken so much work. And know if your generator is easily accessible you may have no problems with them. As for me, I reached out to the generator company to let them know of the challenges I had and that they should make note before they recommend Reliable that they should ask where the generator is located.

Their response stated they estimated the project at a $50 flat rate, and I agreed to schedule the work based on that representation. On the day of the appointment, the technician came to my home while I was at work and my partner let him in. Instead of installing the fan, I later received an invoice for $257. When I questioned the charge, I was told the "$50 flat rate" was actually just a service call to inspect the wiring, verify the electrical box, and provide an estimate. However, that was not how the job was presented when I booked it. Looking back through our messages, I could not find anywhere that I was told the $50 was only an estimate or service-call fee before the technician arrived. That explanation only came after I questioned the invoice. What disappointed me most was the way the situation was handled. Rather than acknowledging that the wording was confusing or that there may have been a misunderstanding, they blamed Yelp and claimed Yelp requires businesses to use the term "flat rate." They also later contacted me after the visit claiming I had threatened to leave a bad review if I had to pay the $50 service fee, which was never my position. I paid the $50. My issue was that they advertised what appeared to be a flat-rate installation, then attempted to charge over five times that amount after arriving. Everyone can make mistakes. What matters is how a business handles them. In my opinion, a company should take responsibility for misleading pricing instead of shifting the blame. I can't recommend a business that advertises one thing and then explains it differently only after the customer questions the bill.
