Am Nordpol is a wonderful little dinner option that is truly a locals choice. You won't find tourists in this area, and the menu is full of local loves. The weiner schnitzel is huge and fried wonderfully. The potatoes are perfectly oiled and steamed. Even the cocktails come out nicely. Vegetarian options are available in a few different forms from pastas to salads. The menu is handwritten in German and very hard to read even if you know German. However, and English menu is available upon request which is typed. Staff is prompt and does speak English. Make a reservation in advance. read more

Ambiance is hellish. Artwork displayed when we visited depicted psychotic manic-like child doodles. Restaurant Temperature was so high my glasses fogged up and we were sweating. We traveled from the city center of Vienna for their veal Wiener schnitzel. Cost for one plate 26 euro. Potatoes lacked salt and flavor. Wiener schnitzel was very poor quality and meat was inedible. Mixed salad had a tiny dribble of tasteless salad dressing which was overpowered by the bitter greens. Truly a horrible experience. Regarding Service: ordered a gin and tonic, received a small glass of Prosecco. 1 star earned for cabbage soup which was edible. read more

An absolute disaster from start to finish. The sauna-like temperature once you fought yourself through the heavy curtain blocking the entrance, the brutal assault of the art(?)work, and the tire-rubber consistency of the Wiener Schnitzel, cut resistant to industrial strength tools, all combined to an experience I don't want to repeat. read more

Local site in Vienna listed this as one of the top 10 places to eat schnitzel in Vienna so I gave it a try. It is in zone 2 and WAY off the tourist path. I arrived at noon when they opened Saturday and was the first customer. When I left they were still not very busy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, both very modest. The menu looked amazing and several other offerings tempted me, but I went with the schnitzel. You could hear them in the back preparing it - pounding it flat before breading. It did indeed cover the plate and came with salad, potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I finished the entire schnitzel but could not finish the rest. It was quite good. Service was friendly but not too attentive. I do recommend this place if you want to try good Vienna Schnitzel. Get away from the crowds and try something different! read more

This place was recommended by my host. I got to go there with her sister. The menu they initially gave us is all in German AND handwritten, so it may be extra challenging for you non-German speakers...... until you find out the waiter speaks perfect English AND they have a menu in English that is PRINTED off a computer. *womp womp* We got a couple radlers, she got a beetroot soup, and I went for the typical Viennese sausage with three types of mustard and a salad and sauerkraut. Typical stuff, but done really well. As the sisters describe it, it's "traditional Viennese food done in a slightly modern way" It was very good! The interior is also unique. They have some interesting artwork placed around the room, as well as old vintagey furniture and charming chairs and things that don't always necessarily match. It's a really relaxed atmosphere. People there seem really chilled out. I am so surprised at this, but they (most of Vienna) seems really relaxed about allowing you to bring in your dog! Anna had her dog with her and they didn't bat an eyelash. Weird. The only thing... we made a bet. If they take credit cards, then I pay. If they don't, then she pays. They don't take cards, but it means I won the bet so I guess it's not that bad! Prices are very reasonable. Trick your friends into paying by playing this game with them. read more

Nordpol is a lovely restaurant that serves Austrian cuisine along the wall of Augarten. In summer, you can sit outside in their small but cozy guest garden. The food is really amazing. The dishes are of mammoth proportions. The schweinsbraten is incredible! They produce their own special secret sauce - scrumptious! The service is good, the servers are friendly and attentive. The location is great and the prices are reasonable. All in all, a great place. Bring your mom or your date, eat like kings and drink one of their funky Apéritifs. Yum. read more

A gem! Hearty, healthy food on a great terrace or in the quirky but cosy restaurant inside. The Krautersuppe (fresh sauerkraut with potatoes and sausage) tasted surprisingly fresh and wasn't too heavy. For dinner my friend and I shared the Ziegenkäse mit Speck (goat's cheese with bacon) that came with a big salad (lettuce, potato, tomato, cucumber, gurkins and olives) and a sausage with cheese inside (forgot the name :s) which came with mustard, ketchup and some other side dishes. I was in Vienna for 4 days and I cam here twice - the first impression was so good and the second impression was even better! As a rule, I never eat at the same place twice while traveling but this was so good I couldn't help myself. I sat both inside and outside - both were nice and service was super both times. If you want a good, hearty meal this is the place to go! The other food I had in Vienna was good but this was by far my favorite! read more

Wow. Petra the server was rude as I have never seen. I'm not sure, but customer service is not a concept here. Petra refused to put our kids next to us. Was so pleased with this tradition Viennese restaurant. The food was amazing, and the wait staff was super friendly, attentive and funny! The place is wonderfully furnished. The place looks like the living room of an artist with very eclectic taste. The floors and part of the walls are covered in a lovely dark wood. The remainder of the wall space is covered in pictures, paintings, and various decorations. Potted plants are scattered throughout the place; the bar is guarded by a collection of garden gnomes. The place was bustling with people even at 3 o'clock when I arrived. We ordered "Russian blinis"--a roughly €7 plate of 2 wonderful buckwheat pancakes topped with egg, onion, sour cream, and trout roe. As a main I selected Grammel- & Hascheeknödel mit Süßkraut (two types of meat dumplings with a sweet cabbage--all for €9). The plating was very nice--the four Knödel sat on a bed of the cabbage and were topped with crisp caramelized onions. The Hascheeknödel had a great flavour to them--with a slightly sweet meat filling. This was out first time in Vienna and this restaurant was our first try at authentic Austrian food. We did not leave disappointed! The food was delicious. Our first taste of wiener schnitzel took place here and it will not be our last. we made serrations and were glad we did. The restaurant was pretty crowded and filled with locals. We had no problem with language as al the workers there spoke English with us. Five stars for the food. Four for the service (we waited almost 20 minutes for our check). Overall an enjoyable time and recommended for an authentic Viennese dining experience. read more

Excellent Food! The schnitzel was in a light batter that melted in your mouth. I think its the best, even compared to some of the restaurants downtown. We hope to make it back that way again before our trip ends. Oh and getting menus in English was no problem - just ask for them. English was also spoken there, so absolutely no language problems. read more

I absolutely enjoyed dining at this establishment when we were in Vienna in September. It's bohemian down to the decor so be ready to be amazed by the food, beverages, service and experience. There's nothing huge and spectacular except the food was very, very delicious. I ordered the weiner schnitzel that came with a salad, Chris the roast pork with gravy and saurkraut potatoes, and Iwona had the pierogies. We all had several beers. It's just one of those meals that you always want to have and never want to end. But at the end, our cute waiter offered us a shot of slivovitz (for digestion) and it was an ideal ending to a most perfect meal. Thank you. read more

This pub/restaurant was amazing. A little out of the way from central Vienna but a 1.5 mile walk was well worth it. Somewhat seedy neighborhood with strip bars. But the place itself had great ambience. The food was amazing - we had the gnocchi with a fennel white sauce and salmon and ravioli with chanterelles. Also had 3 servings each of the seasonal red sturm - super tasty and hit the spot. Service was very great - friendly and interactive. Overall an awesome experience.
