    Upon entering the fair grounds.

Other than the ridiculous heat, I loved it! First timer and I'm all about this county fair. Rides? Oiy vey! Open the grounds at 9am but don't start the rides till 12pm? Ummm......what?! Please give a mother some tips on how to explain that to my kid. That's my only beef with the fair. Small hometown feel. Most excellent tractors. I mean seriously cool stuff to see. Historically amazing pieces of machinery. My 4 year old son thought it was the coolest thing since he discovered Mac & Cheese. I've lived in sac all my life and I have to admit that the State Fair is just not the place to be anymore for a lot of locals. Over priced....EVERYTHING! Concrete and asphalt raging it's heat into you all day? No thanks. I'll go over here where I get to walk on grass. Let me tell you what.....what a difference it makes when it's raging hot and you are on the grass, not asphalt. Its bearable and actually makes your trip to the fair enjoyable regardless of the heat. The FFA displays of their pigs? Amazing. So impressive. Didn't go to any shows. The choices for vendors could be better, but for the most part the quantity was adequate. I was really impressed by The amount of food and beverage vendors. Your basic thorough fair of food. Hot dogs, corn dogs, Turkey legs and so on. The best place was a Little Cafeteria style BBQ joint. The name escapes me now, but I can assure you it's worth a look see. Shaded seating out the back door with upwards of 6 bench tables to accommodate large parties. Thank you Amador County for a fun day. We will be back. To the organizers, well done! From a professional event organizer standpoint this event is well thought out and executed. It was very well advertised.

Included a Republican booth selling "NoBama" stickers placed right next to a booth selling African and Jamaican fashions, a local gal "Miss Amador" contest, a showing of a 1921 movie starring Will Rogers filmed right there in Plymouth, a "Johnnie Cash" tribute band, a fair-to-middlin' cajun band...and a ferris wheel that put us back $6 per person to ride. Oh, and Nick Cave's song, "The Carny," blasting in my head the whole time.

The fair isn't open yet, but fair goers are trickling in.

They have a rodeo, tractor pull and a destruction derby (all on different nights).

Thanks to Tiffany K. for her review and have convinced me to try Di Arie Vineyard & Winery. I made…read morereservation in advance by email because no one answered the phone and no option to leave a message. When I got there, they didn't have my name for reservation. I had to show them the email confirmation. It was fine and we were still able to sit down right away. The inside wine tasting room is kind of small but the outdoor patio and area makes up for it. It is quite big and open. I think someone can host an outdoor concert or a wedding. We got to taste about five type of wines (Sauvignon Blanc and few blended red wine). They were all good. I particularly like the 2020 Interlude and purchased a bottle for my sister. We also got to sample from their gallery collection library club that's like 20+ years old ( I forgot the exact year) and that was special. They also have dumplings and spring rolls for purchase. I skip that because I wasn't sure if that would go with the wine. We bought some cheese with us and we had that with our wine. Of course, we asked for permission before bringing in our own cheese and crackers. The gentleman that served us was really nice and friendly. We didn't feel rushed and wine was poured at a good pace. I do want to mention that most winery at Amador will comp at least one tasting with purchase, but not at Di Arie. If you're not a member, be prepared to pay the full wine tasting fee per person.

Our 1st stop during our 2025 Big Crush event...oh boy, did I pick a great one! Their tasting…read moreincluded their vintage wines: 2013 Onstage, ActII (my ultimate favorite), 2010 Touriga National and 2007 D'Arideaux. OMG, they were all very delicious. They did their pairings with a Mediterranean lunch. This was also amazing. They also providdd a tasting of their more recent wines, 2019 Sierra Legend! It's a Terri blend of Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Syrah and Primitivo! The host and hostess were all very friendly and knowledgeable! And of course to meet and chat with the wine maker himself, Chaim, was a wonderful treat! The grounds were small, but very cute and relaxing. It made for a warm, friendly ambiance! Of course we walked away with a case of the Sierra and the 3 OG vintage wines! We're definitely coming back in a few weeks. Thank you Di Arie!
