An ethereal place you kind of float through in a dream. Sometimes lithe pretty Americans and Europeans with fresh juices and bikinis post-yoga pass by amidst crashing waves and Caribbean breezes. Women muse on their current marriages off the lobby. Papillon would have escaped to here on coconuts. There are dangers lurking all about this region - but worth coming if you wear a seat belt and have good tequila.

Costs $20 a person to enter for the beach club. Every employee says something different. Said we have to pay for parking with no parking ticket to put in the car and no one watching our car. No food included. Beach smells like sulfur, not all the day beds were clean and the water isn't clear we didn't feel it was clean to swim in. For $20 per person just to enter the beach to sit at this place that needs repairs Do not recommend.

We stopped here to eat one day and had really great service. The food was fresh and very tasty. Expensive- but so is everything in this touristy area. We ordered 2 bottles of water, a beer, a pizza, and a pad tai and were at around $80 USD. We then ordered smoothies which were very delicious (around $9 usd a piece). We then went to sit and enjoy the pool deck with our smoothies (the restaurant is essentially the pool deck) and were told we'd have to pay an additional $20 usd a piece to remain on property after eating. A bit surprising after spending $100 USD on food/drinks. It just threw the vibe off and put a bad taste in our mouth. We paid our tab and left immediately- but wouldn't return just due to the odd treatment and staff.

Finally took my first trip Tulum and we stayed at the Amansala. First day hurricane grace hit Tulum so we actually stayed in town which they accommodated us with, their property not far but more inland. As much as we wanted our beachfront bungalow, we totally understood. The morning after the hurricane, we got out in the morning to check things out and the lady who worked at this location (I wish I had her name, so nice and friendly and great energy considering the circumstances, but we did find out she was originally from Seattle) she offered to make us coffee and then made us breakfast as well which was not expected and soooo nice considering her café wasn't opened due to no power but she went above and beyond with what she had and made us feel comfortable. Later that day we went back to the beach property and got into our beachfront bungalow and it was perfect!! Exactly what we wanted. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The only reason not giving it 5 stars is because of hurricane and slow time, not a lot of classes (yoga) and such offered so we didn't experience all of that. But no complaints at all, we did get massages one day before leaving, the staff all practiced covid safety and conveniently had covid testing arrive at the resort to test us prior to leaving back to the states. Would definitely come back to experience more!!

Came to Amansala for a 6-day yoga retreat. Great activities provided by the resort like the Temazcal, the Mayan Healing Massage, the Mayan Clay Meditation, Salsa class as well as the guided tours the resort provided for the Gran Cenote and Tour of the Ruins. Delicious food for breakfast served what felt like every two hours: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Snack, and Dinner. Got a little tired of the broccoli omelets by day 3 but luckily there are options to choose from. Loved seeing dogs around the property and even watching them swim! The two stars I took out were because of a few areas of spotty service. First, spotty wifi that cut in and out. Several members of the group I was with just found it easier to check into our flights by getting off the wifi or opting to do it at the airport. Next, we couldn't use the AC until 9pm. While that wasn't the primary issue several members of our group grew concerned when we'd come back to our rooms from a long day of activities to find that our AC was on. We all had to double check our charges or check with the front desk to let them know. Luckily I was out all day, but when I would get back into the room after swimming I'd be sweating buckets! Sometimes I'm sweating right when I come out of the shower. Imagine coming here in the summer! Unless you want the additional $25 charge, you'd HAVE to be out at the beach/pool all day to cool down. The biggest issue my group faced was with food service because it always took awhile for you to get your drink. Often times I'd wait awhile only for them to ask me what type of tequila I wanted for my drink. It was random who would get their order first, and sometimes I'd order first and get my drink last. Often times we'd go to the bar to remind them of the drink we ordered. If you opened a tab, getting your check would be another painful wait. If you charged it to your room, sometimes we'd find the wrong drink on our list of charges. Just a big pain when it came to ordering drinks. Overall, my experiences at Amansala were great! I enjoyed the aesthetic, the services and the meals. They definitely worked to accommodate us and our needs; however, there were some issues with the food service and amenities.

Very poor place we got here and the place was not done under construction a lot of noise so we said we didn't like the room wanted the money back so they walked us over to another place that was out of business and people camping next to the room I swear if you would've stayed here you would've got kidnapped they had spider and bugs all over the hotel the pool had a holes inside putting water inside the doors were falling apart :) smell so bad no good

This resort is in complete disrepair! Moved 5 times before checking out Water pouring in room from window and walls Room smelled musty Roaches No clean towels Stains on sheets Water never refilled in room No covid protocol followed! Bikes broken Umbrellas broken Resort broken! Resort never got back to us General manager promised a resolution which never came We checked out 5 days early, simply not a safe place to stay.

Toxic mess masquerading as a wellness resort. During my week here, I had three staff members including the owner let themselves into my room without knocking in the afternoon. The third time, a male employee found me naked in a towel and ran off with not so much is an apology or explanation for barging into my room. My final bill included $1400 (!!) in incorrect charges for services I did not book or use, 2x room charge and 2x shuttle fee. The young, unqualified receptionist attempting to check me out was argumentative and unhelpfum. When I explained that I had to leave for the airport or risk losing my flight, she ordered the Male Staff and Male Shuttle Driver to prohibit me from leaving the building. As a domestic violence survivor, this is incredibly triggering and I was panicked and terrified by being trapped in the hotel. In America, holding someone against their will for any period of time is considered kidnapping. Kidnapping is a felony. Meanwhile, I had already paid Amansalah $4000 for my weeklong retreat and they had my credit card on file. Common sense will dictate I was not at risk of pulling an Anna Delvey. I simply wanted to call back later and speak to an adult about the bill and who could help remove the erroneous charges. The owner and one of the fitness instructors witnessed this terrifying situation, and while they are unaware that I am a domestic violence survivor with PTSD, they should both be ashamed that they allowed this to happen in their hotel. Amansalah might be OK for someone who doesn't mind blowing money on an over priced, mediocre experience, but I strongly recommend women with PTSD or other triggers from domestic violence, sexual assault or similar go elsewhere. There are many wonderful, trauma sensitive healing and yoga retreats. Amansalah is not one of them. If you would like to chat or share your story, please reach me anytime @VivGrace1111 on Instagram. Apparently they also have a smaller hotel with no pool somewhat next door right after you turn to the hotel zone street so be careful what you book! I was worried about the reviews about the seaweed on the beach but I'm happy to report that beaches were very clean. They told us seaweed is seasonal and usually pretty bad from June to September. We even walked up a mile down the beach and everything was clean. The room was not ready yet when we got here around 1 pm but we were able to lounge by the beachfront bar and pool. They even gave us 2 welcome margarita drinks! As soon as you check in, they ask you to connect to wi-fi so you can communicate with staff on WhatApp during your stay. Check in and check out was online too. Definitely convenient. If you only booked rooms and not the week long (?) fitness/wellness vacation you can still participate in daily fitness activities and excursions for an extra fee. They do also have free weights and barbell to use on the beach by the pool. Because this is a yoga/spa resort, in the morning you can hear relaxing music and smell incense on the pathway to the beach. The pool, jacuzzi, lounge, bar and beach area are of course beautiful! I am surprised people said it was dirty. It was super clean when we were there. Depending on the room and where you booked, breakfast and bike rentals are also included. If not bike rentals are $10 each. We really enjoyed the breakfast spread every morning. It always seemed to have 2 types of eggs and some carb. Cocktails and drinks are priced like DC area maybe bars but maybe a little cheaper. This is a dog friendly place so don't be surprised to see some cute well behaved dogs! A definite plus for me though. Location is great too! Not too far down the beach road so it's more in between town and the beach. And food options just next door a short walk on the beach or across the street. A big convenience store and liquor store is also just a short walk on the road. Just like anywhere in Tulum, you need to read hotel/amenities/resort rules carefully! Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's like a 5 star hotel in the US. This is the jungle after all so plumbing and electricity is not as reliable. Amansala had strong free wi-fi throughout, electricity all day, running water, hot water,, good shower and flushing toilets. You can't flush toilet papers but that's the norm here. In terms of ac in the room, its only available from 9pm to 7am but you can pay extra to have it on all day. We didn't pay for it since we were out lounging outside most of the day anyway. Also, at night it did get chilly and we didn't end up needing it. The garden king room didn't have a ceiling fan but I had a small portable fan with me that worked well when the AC stopped working one night. I can't imagine being ok with that in the summer heat though. They also provide gallons of water in the rooms for drinking and brushing your teeth.

Note: we came for drinks, only We came here as a group of six and sat outside by their restaurant/bar. The atmosphere was nice, although it is almost pitch-black at night (there aren't many lights) so you're mostly dining and/or drinking in darkness. (And this is probably for the best because....mosquitos.) We had (several) Spicy Margaritas, a Mojito, and Merlot. Drinks were meh - the margs were pretty good, but the wine was awful. Service also wasn't the greatest.

Not impressed. Though this is an affordable hotel in the hotel zone at about $100/night I was appalled that they charge $25 to use the a/c before 9 pm. That's just ghetto charging for a/c in a hot place like Mexico. The rooms around this price are small and cramped. There is definitely more value at other hotels in Tulum in my opinion. 2 stars because the staff was really nice =]
Amansala was hands down one of the best days of our Tulum trip. We came here on Christmas Day to enjoy the beach and ended up staying all day just lounging, sipping drinks, eating amazing food, and soaking up the beautiful, laid-back energy of the place. The vibe is everything you want Tulum to be: boho, chic, relaxed, and full of gorgeous people just enjoying life. The food was fabulous, the drinks kept coming, and every corner of the property feels like a postcard. Yes, it's a splurge and yes, I'm slightly embarrassed by how much I spent but honestly, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. If you're looking for the ultimate beach-day escape in Tulum, this place is worth every peso. read more
It was really nice spot. The founder walked us to our table which was a nice touch. The food was really food and so was the margaritas. My kids ate all their food and they were happy with it My bowls had a few chips and cracks in it but it was only for the salsa bowls The atmosphere is really nice and it looks nice and clean. Everyone was really friendly also read more
I want to love this place so badly because the grounds are beautiful and the service is amazing. It's chic the beach beds feel luxury and the service really was top notch. The food just has to be better, it feels bastardized and they have to change the music playlist for the beach club it's all over the place. I've been to endless spa resorts spaces all over the world. If you're leaning into more of a wellness vibe just choose soft ambient sounds with no lyrics. Edm was playing and it honestly took away from the beautiful space and vibe! Amazing pinacoladas read more
Not the cheapest place on the beach -- and also not the most expensive. Very good crowd. Great dining options and very attentive service makes this beach club a must visit for a great, chill, fun day. read more

We stayed here for several days during a wellness retreat. Very sweet, very small resort in Tulum. There are actually 2 resorts that are connected. The room was comfortable. Could have used more hooks and more towels. I know the resort is "eco chic" but still we could have used more towels and more hooks. The location was excellent. The food was pretty darn good. We could have used more snack options since we were working out so much. Coffee is only available on a limited free basis. Drinks are pricey. Walk to your massage down the beach. Little town is mostly walkable but perhaps safer to take a cab. Negotiate your cab price before you get in the cab. read more

Quaint resort with fantastic staff and stunning views. The limitations were mostly around AC in the middle of the day, but that's just a thing in Tulum without more generation power. The resort was clean and beautiful. I would stay there again! read more

Amazing stay. Stay was amazing for my husband and I. We couldn't find a meal we didn't like. Accommodations were impeccable and the people were very helpful. It was crowded bc it was a holiday weekend, but my husband and I didn't mind. I would recommend not opting for the shared shuttle if you order one through the hotel. read more

This place is a total bait and switch. The photos on Booking.com were great with beautiful pool, restaurant and chic rooms. When we arrived we were actually put at a completely different hotel down the beach called the Amansala Chica with no pool or amenities. On top of that, the rooms were small, dark and dirty with cockroaches in the evening. They ask you not to flush toilet paper (which is common in Mexico) but they only provided open air trash bins in bathrooms exposed to the bedroom. They also only provide maid service after the first 3 days and do not allow the AC to be run from 7am to 10pm. This all makes for an extremely unhygienic situation. It is like sitting in a sauna with 3 days worth of used toilet paper within 8 feet from where you sleep. We had 2 rooms booked for 4 nights and had to check out after the first night. When I asked the front desk about a discount or refund they told me I had to deal directly with Booking.com but when I got home and reached out to Booking.com they said that all they could do was ask the hotel for a refund which they were unwilling to provide. Both Booking.com and the Amansala should be ashamed for this fraud. My booking reservation had the address of the hotel and they put us in a different hotel with a different address and offered zero compensation! Do not be fooled by this place! read more
This review is solely for the beach club. My wife and I made reservations for May 13, for a party of 12 of our wedding guests. We paid in full in advance of our visit. We were thoroughly unimpressed. I'd give Amansala 2 stars solely for the proximity to the ocean and the food. It's really hard to be stressed when you're eating a delicious quesadilla less than 100 paces from the ocean, am I right? Aside from the location and cuisine, Amansala left MUCH to be desired. The beach club space did not look clean or well kept, and customer service was abysmal. Although we'd paid to reserve our spots, we were told to sit anywhere that was NOT reserved, leaving our wedding party to have to spread out to avoid the 'Reserved' signs that were interspersed across the beach lounge area. Some of them were for the bikini boot camp, but many others simply said 'Reserved.' I'm confused as to what we paid $600 in advance for, if space was not reserved for us. Our guests all arrived separately, and we put their names on a list at the front desk. They checked in and received vouchers for their food/drink credit and STILL they were approached on the beach by staff and asked if they had paid to be there. We waited for over 30 minutes for waitstaff to notice us so that we could order from the menu. They kept saying one moment, then they'd service all other tables and clean empty tables but not return to us. To make matters worse, the woman working at the front desk tried to cheat us out of an additional credit that Amansala had already agreed to in advance of our stay. It wasn't until we showed her the WhatsApp message from Amansala that she reluctantly gave us our credit, but she was quite rude throughout the entire exchange. In my opinion, unless you like poor service, dirty lounge chairs, and a soundtrack that sounds like a full moon drum circle of weeping women, take your money elsewhere. And if you do choose to go, don't bother placing a reservation -- it means absolutely nothing. read more

I've always like yoga resorts because of their calm, positive vibes yet it wasn't always the case here. We weren't part of a retreat and took both an excellent yoga and dance class (due to the great instructors). The owner helped us at the reservation desk and wanted to charge us more since we would be the only ones in the class. I thought that was distasteful since a retreat just left and she was trying to get more money from us. She had an aggressive tone and her employees looked on edge. She changed her mind when we told her that we don't want to take the class at a higher price. Also, we we paid our hotel tab in pesos, and they charged a higher rate. You would think the classes are $20, yet they found a way to get a few dollars more. They implement WhatsApp as their communication tool with their customers. I asked the owner to schedule baggage pick-up for the following morning, yet she responded while in front of her computer that they don't have a way to do that, and I needed to message the WhatsApp 15 minutes beforehand the next day. It is a pity that they did away with human connection when they integrated texting at a yoga resort! My positive stars goes to the fitness instructions and concierge. They were very kind and helpful with recommendations with activities and restaurants. I also enjoyed the room, great design with lots of shelving. Hot showers and comfortable bedding. Yet weak air conditioning and loud music from neighboring hotel. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. read more

I loved the staff at Amansala. Every morning I did a meditative beach walk, journaled and yoga and loved it. The yoga instructor was EXCELLENT. And the view from the yoga pavilion is breathtaking. The girl who led the meditative beach walk was high energy and a wonderful person. The massages were great. Did this Mayan Clay ritual that literally was life changing and the couple that led it was just amazing. I had the best Tarot card reading of my life there. Darlene is the real deal. I just had the best time. The food was excellent. You can make Amansala what you want - vacation, meditation, party time, whatever. The eco chic thing took a little getting used to (like throwing toilet paper away in a wastebasket vs flushing it....) but that's every resort in Tulum. Highly recommend Amansala. Will be back! read more

"Eco chic resort" isn't the best way to describe this hotel. It has probably not been redone since it was built, everything is neglected and dirty, the staff is not managed and there is zero service. Nobody never says "hi" to you! at the "restaurant" if I may call it that, you ll have to wave at the waiter so he would bring you a menu and take your order! The food is average though prices are more expansive than in LA. Yoga classes cost you $20 + taxes.... the included breakfast doesn't include juices or cappuccino!!! Dogs are walking on tables and are leaking the empty plates ( I love dogs but this was too much) Unfortunately this part of Tulum Beach was covered by seaweeds, impossible to swim... This hotel needs to be reworked a some management! read more

Visited in 11/23 Dear Amansala - If you must appropriate, at the very least - SLAY. There are better places in Tulum. Don't stay here. I could start with how poorly I was treated on my first night at this "resort". (I've stayed at dude ranches with better accommodations). My first so-called luxury room had no linen in it. The was bed was unmade and without sheets. There was a comforter just thrown over the bare mattress. And, no towels! No telephone in the room. You better have your wifi because the only way to communicate with the staff is through a whatsapp group. You can imagine after having traveled so far to Tulum how I felt about not being able to shower right away and grab a meal. None of the previous plans my group made with the resort were in place. No one greeted our group on the first night to show us around the grounds. The front desk was quite aways down the road from where my first room was. They ended up moving me to another room over the main road. There was so much noise from road and workers walking all around of sleep. Right, there were construction workers everywhere until wee hours in the morning. The next day I was told I would need to move again, and if I wanted to stay in the "loud" room, it would cost me an additional fee per night! Imagine that! Also, the windows in the first bathroom had no covering. This all happened on Day 1, hours 1-3. On Day 2, I realized that my garbage can, which had no top would not be emptied for another day. So, any soiled toilet paper would be festering in my un-air conditioned room for over 24 more hours. (eew- can you say petrie dish!). Did I mention, we were told that we would have to pay $20 extra a day for AC during daytime hours. Free AC was only available at night after 7pm. There were so many instances when I questioned the cleanliness of this establishment even though on the surface it looked clean, there was this constant stench of waste wafting through the breeze. From the open garbage cans filled with soiled toilet paper throughout the common bathrooms, to one of the on-premise dogs swimming in the guest pool, to the most unaccommodating staff (with the exception of Michelle at the front desk and Bam) I have ever encountered. If you must stay here then just lower your expectations and maybe you'll be okay. No offense to the treatments and the little extras they offered, the clay and water treatment - it's just made up nonsense. Don't waste your money. If all you care about is the proximity to the ocean, then maybe you won't mind all of the aforementioned. It just felt very NOT ready for primetime and like a scam. It's a hard no. PS I almost forgot to mention how RUDE one of the security guards was while my friends and I were out at the pool one evening. We were having a little fun and he come over the area, rudely told us the pool was closed and turned off all of the lights leaving us sitting there in the DARK!!!! This happened not once but twice!!! And, the owner and manager refused to acknowledge this in a professional manner. Instead of properly addressing us they offered our retreat host an extra massage...what a joke. I'm sure there are many other instances but this was by far the most egregious. bleh read more

Everything I come here, I like it more. It is very special. The cabanas, the food, the view and the yoga are outstanding. They added a bar and now you can get margaritas too. Come here and it can change our outlook on life to be more positive and more simple. Enjoy! read more

I was really excited for the bikini boot camp at this resort. However, the staff and management didn't want to hear about my food allergies. I know this sounds very pretentious and high maintenance. I simply wanted to know that cilantro would not be in my food. They kept ignoring my requests. I understand that people don't want to be bothered with special requests however this is not a personal choice. This isn't really related to the boot camp but the resort. When a dead body floated on the beach the management had to be convinced to call the police. read more

I WOULDN'T STAY HERE IF THEY PAYED ME I will start by saying the Hotel staff is EXTREMELY nice and helpful they really strive to do their best. The Owner pops in once in a while and seems to be loud and rude to the employees. I had a situation where the water completely stopped running in my room which is a very common problem in this hotel and I had to leave to an excursion with soap in my hair and part of my body it was horrible I was sticky for most of the day. The owner heard me complaining and just stood there and did nothing she yells at everybody and yet can't even hear a complain like that and says omg what can we do to make your stay better. Also the rooms near the road entrance should just be turned into offices you will not sleep good the doors are not level and you can hear everything especially the clubs nearby playing music until 6 am if you a looking to relax that is not the place to do it. Also if you pay for anything at the restaurant or bar DO NOT charge it to your account they will charge you 16% just pay for it at the restaurant or in cash it's a way for them to make an extra buck off of you not to make it convenient but to profit. Also the rooms are not as nice as they look in the pictures they have a policy that the air conditioning only works from 10pm to 7am so if it's hot prepare to be HOT they don't even have fans in the room it's completely insane to do That and not tell anyone especially in the booking description. I emphasize that the staff is incredible but I don't think it's the leadership it's just how scared to death the employees are. Such a shame read more

Amansala made our trip to Tulum special! My boyfriend and I visited Tulum for the first time and upgraded last minute prior to seeing the resort to a beach front unit which we enjoyed being steps to the beach and at a very fair price (especially considering the up pricing in this area). Everything was super online friendly to pay, reserve, and communicate through WhatsApp. Maintenance was very attentive and efficient with one small issue with the door lock we had. Cleaning service came everyday and changed our sheets fully and offered additional towels. We much enjoyed the resorts beach bar/restaurant and day beds, not to mention the daily complimentary breakfast with great service from the waitstaff breakfast, lunch, and dinner! We spent most of our free time here and my boyfriend insisted on ordering the chicken quesadilla and guacamole with pico every day we were there! Lol. Took amazing pictures lounging in the amazing pool/hot tub and day beds then ran into the ocean. Had performers come up beachside with a great show and bartenders made any drink that we wanted deliciously. The location was great and out of visiting other walkable beach clubs this was by far our favorite. Made amazing friends with the resort stayers and staff. We were incredibly pleased with our stay here and would absolutely recommend it and return again. Thank you so much Amansala! read more

never made it to the hotel due to work schedule conflicts! However, I cancelled my reservation with more than 23 days in advance and they charge me one night cancellation. HORRIBLE attitude and I will never visit them. Be very careful before you give them your credit card! I work in the travel industry and I have never encounter such rules! NEVER WILL VISIT! read more

My five girlfriends and I absolutely loved it. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. The beachfront was stunning and there were multiple places to hang with a large group. The room was cleaned once a day and kept tidy, with fresh towels daily. I travel for work and stay and some of the best hotels around the world and I highly recommend the Amansala. If you want a vacation that doesn't feel like you are in Mexico then go to the Hilton in Cancun, if you want an authentic Mexico experience, stay at the Amansala. read more

After viewing the reviews, I decided to visit Tulum, and spend part of my vacations time in Amansala. Great decision! Arrived at the hotel and the check in was fast, but, stay there it was magic! Is an eco resort, by the way don't have a bright lights into rooms or a common areas (I understand that is necessary to be friendly with the fauna), the water runs very good, and the fan works well. The rooms don't have TV but, it don't care I went to disconnect from the word (in secret: the WIFI runs well). The hotel offered me many activities Yoga, Massages, SPA, and its so close the Arqueologic Mayan ruins. After a few days I took an upgrade in the room. OMG! the view at the ocean it was incredible, I don't have words to describe the sensations, colors, sounds, smell, everything in the environment. The A/C runs only at night, to be friendly with the environment. And finally in the nights I went to different restaurants in the area, (Amansala had a good location) and many bars (Gitano was my favorite) in the area. read more
The first time that I stayed at Amansala, I was really new to Mexico. I had booked a room in Cancun, but after an evening of listening to a bunch of West Virginia construction workers, adorned with hats with beer can holders on each side no less, scream, "I'm in Mexico Mother F***kers!!", I was ready for some real relaxation Yes, watching these hat-wearing clowns praise the invention of the all-inclusive beer resort, I had made my right there that I would be heading down to Tulum for some piece and quiet . They next morning the WVA crew was still at it; my favorite being the guy whose beer hat was painted with the slogan, "I'm Drunk F**Kers!" (Yeah, as if I needed a clue). Fast forward to a 90 minute cab, and I was dropped at Amansala's peaceful doorstep. Yeah, they got yoga here and run something called a Bikini Boot Camp which sounds a bit foo foo at first, but let me tell you it looks as if it can be a bit grueling. I say looks, because this is not the body for yoga, but it is the body for hanging out at the bar with a margarita or chillin in a beach chair. Oh, it is also the body for checking out a cenote or scoping out sea turtles at night, which was an amazing experience. So although I was staying at Amansala, I wasn't a participant in some of the more strenuous activities like hot yoga and beach sprints, but I was there in spirit, ladies, and after all that is what really counts. In fact, I had such a great time that I returned again. Amansala also has another property, Casa Magna, which is a mammoth house that Paplo Escobar supposedly once owned. If you get a chance check out this property, for it exquisitely decorated with Balinese and Thai furnishings. On my trip next year the owner Melissa had done some amazing work on the place, and it was better than before. Yes, it was a bit more expensive, but the beach was still as picturesque as it had ever been. And of course, the Bikini Boot Camp was in full swing. Yoga? Oh, no I don't think I should, but I will take another one of Amansala's perfect margaritas and enjoy this relaxing view...and like Yoda, from time to time deliver such sage wisdom as, "Ladies, remember in Yoga, there is no try, only do." read more

*****UPDATE: After begging for a refund for almost 3 months....I wrote this review. Within 2 hours the owner of Amansala refunded my friend's money. Perhaps hiring a management company would be a good idea for this resort. ORIGINAL POSTING: It is a shame we cannot recommend this resort. It has a beautiful beach and has the potential to be an amazing destination. AVOID!!!!! If you book here, though, you risk overpaying or being outright swindled out of your money. We were a group of 8 ladies who booked for a trip in February. A few weeks before our trip, one of our group's husband had a MASSIVE HEART ATTACK. Of course, she could not join us. We got in touch with the resort and ask them if they could refund her, but they said it was against their policy. So, we upgraded to a PRIVATE room for her roommate. (IE: the resort lost NO MONEY). In return, we asked that the money be returned to our grieving friend.....The resort told us they would "consult management." I asked them while we were there, and they told me they would refund the money. Now, several months later they have refunded $50 out of $2500 that they owe this poor woman!!!!! I have whatsapped them multiple times, but to no avail. Unfortunately, as you can read in many other reviews, this is a terrible unethical pattern they seem to have fallen into. JUST SAY NO!!!! It's unfortunate that an American owner in Mexico seems to thinks she is impervious to repercussions from her bad behavior.... There are so many great resorts in Tulum - don't settle for this!!! read more

Traveled to Tulum in the middle of the pandemic (sorry, not sorry) Amansala did not disappoint. Parking was easy (right across the street). The room was clean and spacious. Bugs did not enter our room (beds have netting just Incase) Being that its in eco friendly hotel, they'll only clean out your room if your staying over 4 nights, we didn't mind. Breakfast was included and was delicious. The staff was very friendly and wore mask. I had a massage on the last day, it was one of my favorite body treatments. On our last night, we sat by the pool for some drinks when we noticed the staff on the beach. To my surprise they were rescuing baby sea turtles that reached the surface. We joined in the rescue and what an unforgettable experience that was. Will be returning to Amansala on my next Tulum trip. Tip: Take cash, everyone accepts USD. I spent so much on "credit card fees". The hotel restaurant adds on an additional percentage for using cards, as most other places in Tulum did as well. Up to 9 percent. read more

TERRIBLE. Just spent 8 days there with my wife and 2 kids, and this morning when we woke up we were all SO glad to finally check out! The place is a dirty, the staff an army of ghosts, the food reminded me of those depressing buffets we used to have at boarding school, we ve been forbidding our kids to put one foot in the mini-pool as the water was a giant bacteria nest, towels or bed sheets not changed 1 single time in 8 days, the owner did not even bother to say good morning once. Bonus : Manhattan prices (500 usd / night for a dirty family room, 15 usd for 3 tacos...) but if at least it could have been Manhattan quality... we come back to LA with this sad and angry feeling to have been " ripped off ". Please DO contact me directly if any more " crunchy " details needed. Photos to come soon read more

I had the BEST experience with this resort. I went on a yoga retreat and I can't wait to go back in the future. The staff was on top of it all. I'm hear now: For all if you that wrote bad reviews shame on you. People that appreciate a Green hotel should stay hear. This hotel is a Eco yoga retreat resort. What does that mean? Minimalist living Ecologically friendly to nature. Low human carbon foot print on the environment. Your common amenities are different. Limited AC run times from green solar powered generators. The water is for showering and brushing teeth only not drinking. If you are a person who needs a 5 Star Ritz Carlton service this is "not" for you! When you stay at a green hotel expect: Toilets that take no toilet paper, there is a toilet paper trash basket. Limited or no AC. 1 set of clean towels and linen that you are expected to use your entire stay unless you request new. Local Fresh foods for meals. You lame entitled people I can't believe that you rip this resort apart go stay at the Hard Rock hotel or Xcaret down the street! If you not a true yogi or with a yoga group then find another place to stay! My Stay: This is my fourth yoga retreat.Free fast WIFI, wow that's a first. Yes very disappointing for the last 6 months the normal aqua blue, beautiful white beaches have lost there look due to sea weed that has washed ashore. The staff tries to keep cleaning away the seaweed with paths to the sea. (See Pics). It's the season for sea weed on the beaches get over it. Travel hear when the season over and when the beaches are back. The food is amazing local fresh made and they do accommodate food diets, vegan, vegetarian or meat eaters. Don't expect hamburger and hotdogs French fries, candy or any other western unhealthy crap. The amazing food, yoga classes, Massage, beautiful jungle, ocean from my patio is all I need. In Mexico things are not always on time. So if you have excursions, breakfast, lunch or dinner do not expect it to always be on-time. These people operate on a Time-ish scheduling. We foreigners are use to being on time it's hard to overcome. Overall I'm giving this eco friendly resort a 4 star. -1 for the seaweed liter beaches. read more

CONS: The room we were given was absolutely horrible because we booked through booking.com. If you book with a yoga or fitness retreat, i'm sure they give you a bigger room or one that doesn't face toward the road. I did not sleep a single second the first night because the road was so loud. Once I got some ear plugs I was good to go. AC only works from around 9pm-6/7am. The walls are paper thin, you can hear the conversations that your neighbors are having and the water when they are showering. Breakfast was included in our stay: the first day there was yogurt, fruit, and an omelet. The second day we had to get up early and breakfast was suppose to be from 7-10am. We waited until 7:30am and still no breakfast was put out. And finally on day 3 there was the regular yogurt and fruit. This day was the first day we were asked what room were in so they could check to see if we had breakfast included, which we did so we got to chose something off the menu. This included huevos mexicanos, huevos rancheros, and banana pancakes. The lady who I believe was the owner seemed VERY unprofessional. We were headed out for the day and she was yelling at her employees in the "lobby" area. I also had a guest come up to be on our 4th day saying that the owner stole their money from their safe and a few other peoples safes. You are unable to lock the doors at the resort so you put all your valuables in a safe but apparently it wasn't too safe. The beach cabanas were nice but they only cleared the seaweed from the beach 1 or 2 days out of our 6 day stay. When you are paying around 200 a night for a hotel, you would think you would get a little more quality. PRO: The beach cabanas were nice and the location was right in the middle of the beach town so we were able to bike toward both ends and feel comfortable doing so. read more

This is a review of Amansala and its bikini bootcamp. Overall, the lack of cleanliness and organization left me feeling like my vacation required more work on my part than I had wanted and as I expected after reviewing this establishment. Positives: -Food - awesome, healthy, flavorful, good variety. -Bikini bootcamp workout classes are great. Instructors are fun, motivating, in great shape, etc. They offer a variety of both cardio & yoga/meditative/pilates-type classes. -Location - can't be beat. Right on the beach, lots of hammocks, places to lounge, etc. -Staff - many of the staff, Ben, in particular, are great. Ben took our group on two day trips - to the cenotes and Mayan ruins and we had a fun time. Ben knew the lay of the land, took fun photographs and was great about going with the flow. Negatives: -This place is not as advertised. The staff needs a major lesson in hospitality. That starts with the American owner Melissa and should work itself down the line of employees. They are disorganized and will use the excuse that people run on "Tulum time." But as an American-run hotel, that tells me they have zero sense of urgency and don't respect their guests' time. -Example: there was a gecko and large trail of ants in my shower. I told a staff member, who was sweeping and his solution was to come into my room with his broom and kill the gecko w/his broom. Then he looked at me like: how should I clean this up? So I gave him a ziplock bag from my toiletries and toilet paper and he took the dead gecko out of my shower but left some of it there. This man was probably just doing what he thought was best, and there was a language issue, but this is the kind of issue that staff should know how to handle or have some type of protocol for. When I told the staff my tiny, dark room was unsatisfactory and wanted to move, they agreed but it took 2hrs for them to move my luggage even after I offered to just do it myself and after they said they'd do it in 30mins; frustrating bc they weren't respectful of my time. -The staff - much of them are lazy or rude. Example: my friend & I asked to use 2 of the bikes, which hotel guests are entitled to use. The response I got: the bikes are locked up and the manager took the key home with him. When we pressed the issue and said that seemed unlikely, low and behold - they quickly found the key and got us our bikes. That showed me they were lazy and didn't want to bother until we toyed with complaining to other staff. -Rooms. They are significantly shabbier and dirtier than they are chic. I felt completely taken advantage of for paying what they require and I felt the owner nickels and dimes guests. For bibiki boot camp, you're paying roughly between $500-700/night; one could stay at the St. Regis for that price and this DOES NOT COME CLOSE. These prices were outrageous for what guests get. As stated in other reviews, my sheets were also stained, windows didn't close all the way, window sills were completely dusty and had dead bugs in them. Window curtains were crooked and didn't fully cover windows. These problems sound minor, but made a big difference in my sense of privacy in my room. As someone who was on the ground floor, the lack of appropriate-length curtains left me asking for extra towels to hang along the window so no one could see me in my bathroom, which didn't have door! Also, the mosquito nets are pointless. Mine had holes and was totally open underneath the bed, which defeated the purpose altogether. -"Eco" - there's nothing "eco" about this place other than that they only change your sheets or give you new towels once during your week-long stay. -Safety- Amansala offers no real way to lock your room door from the outside unless you ask for a lock, which has a key that they have the key to. Not total security in my opinion. And from the inside of one's room, you have a little latch to "lock", but the truth is that if someone wanted to really push their way in, it'd be no problem at all. As someone who traveled alone - like so many people who go to Amansala do - this didn't make me feel safe. -Because there are no locks on the doors, I asked what I'd do if I heard trouble or something dangerous in the middle of the night. I was told there was security posted 24-hours a day in both the Amansala and Amansala Chica locations. That was not the case. I stayed there five nights and never saw anyone stationed at these desks after 10pm. -Transportation - The advertise $135 fee each way to/from the airport for one of their contracted drivers. What I didn't find out until returning to the airport--and after asking about each of my transportation options--was that you could pay $110 for a smaller car, still with a contracted driver. Would have been nice if they were more forthright from the beginning. -Wifi is crappy even if you pay; don't waste your $ read more

I love to travel and often just create my own adventure while traveling, but I needed a quick getaway and honestly I just needed to have someone else do the planning. My girlfriend recommended I go to Amansala, but I told her I am not signing up for Bikini Bootcamp as a man going on a solo trip. She was pushing me to at least consider Amansala as she had such a great experience there on a Bachelorette Bootcamp with her friends, I figured I would look into it! I was pleasantly surprised to find on the Amansala site they launched a different program called The Reboot! I was not sure what to expect but I new the first day I would basically sleep and catch up on activities the following day! Serious Tech BURN OUT! Upon arrival I was shown the schedule for the week and was told I can do as much or as little as I want. I def wanted to work out, tour around and do some strong yoga, an as much as I avoid meditation I figured it was what I needed more than anything else. I slept through the first orientation, but I was up early in the morning to tackle the rest of the week and was happy to see such a mix of people.. Some on a yoga journey, others wanting a serious work out and me needing to push through a burn out with food, exercise and exploring... I did every single activity and even added on the extras.. They offer spiritual evening activities like a Mayan Sweat Lodge and a Sound Bath.. I figured I needed all the healing I could go for and signed up for both and really was so happy I made the most of my trip and took advantage of all the activities.. My girlfriend did laugh at me and say I told you so a few times which was fine... As now we are planning to go back together... She will sign up for Bikini Bootcamp and I will sign up for The Reboot and we will do a lot of our classes together, as the groups intermingle, but I don't have to tell the boys at the office I am going off to Bikini Bootcamp ! LOL Thank you Josh and Ryan for the kickass workouts!!! Daniel loved going on Tour with you!! Sergio!! My wife is happy you convinced me to dance even if I was horrible at it! Kun! Thank you for your meditations... Darlene!! Chocolate Yoga was AWESOME!! Melissa you really and truly are an inspiration.. See you next year, we are going to celebrate our anniversary there!! read more

Absolutely avoid this place unless you want to overpay for the basics, like electricity, experience rolling black-outs because they run on generators that do not power the full resort, and there is no adequate AC for the whole property. You are only "allowed" to run the air conditioning at night, and there is a daily fee of $45 to have the AC going during the day. In the tropics. With intense humidity. And no other reprieve from the sun. Our group was suffering, and they had no solutions to provide basic hospitality. They tried to up-charge several of us to move into different rooms because the rooms we had booked were not prepared for guests - the smell of mildew and mold was overwhelming and inhospitable. Because they don't run the AC. Because they run on generators. Because they are one step up from a shanty shack on the beach. Mouse droppings, cockroaches, and even a scorpion were found in rooms. The critters probably don't have to pay the AC up-charge. Our group thought "eco chic resort" meant there was mindfulness around laundry, chemicals, water usage, housekeeping, and consumption. Nope. It means they don't have enough on-site power to provide electricity to the whole property. The true conditions of the resort are not disclosed on the website. It says they run on "solar" and to not use hair dryers as a result. Bullshit. There are no solar panels anywhere on-site, and hair dryers do not take enough electricity to be a threat. Yes, they have a beautiful Instagram account. The food was delicious. The beach location is the main selling point. The restaurant staff was fantastic. The views are dreamy. But our retreat group was horribly mistreated and swindled out of money because "the management" would not take responsibility for how poorly this place is being run. They are only chasing their tail, and the guests pay the price in made up fees and lack of integrity. They tried to "forget" the $1000 deposit fee that was paid, and did not credit our retreat leader with her free room until she demanded it be done so. Then they tried to make her pay the "tax" as another form of fleecing her pockets. I guarantee you can do better in Tulum Beach than Amansala. read more

Beautiful location and great yoga and fitness classes I just got back from Tulum and although I did not preplan where I was going to stay, upon arrival I decided to do 3 night in the town and 3 nights on the beach. I love fitness, yoga and wellness and I heard of Amansala Bikini Bootcamp from the yoga studio I go to. I was traveling with a friend and we decided to see if we could do a last minute reservation if we went directly to the hotel. We were lucky enough to get a garden view room with a king bed, it was fine to share and we had the best 3 days at Amansala. My friend is not really into yoga, so she sat on the beach with her book and read a lot, and although I was not part of the package, they let me participate in the yoga class which were open to the public and in the most AMAZING studios with a hardwood floor overlooking the beach. Typically the fitness classes are only open to the public if the group is smaller and my luck there were only a few people participating in fitness and they allowed me to join for 45 usd a class. They were worth every penny, I took a Salsa class with Sergio, he called it Latin Grooves and Cardio Box with Kate... She is my new inspiration.... Yoga was amazing, all the teachers were great! My room had AC during the night, and we spent the days on the beach..We loved the dogs, they add the 6th star to a place I am already in love with.. The staff was so friendly, they took time to speak to me about maybe doing a yoga internship there when I get my teacher training as it would be my dream to work a season there. I loved the vibe, the food, the classes and everyone that worked there was so helpful and happy! I do recommend if you go there to rent a bike as it is easy to get around to the other restaurants that are great, although it is easy to just settle down and not leave Amansala, we wanted to explore the beach a bit! Thank you to everyone there!! I hope in a few years to come and experience working there with you all, as it is a dream place to visit and to work! read more

I regret bringing a retreat group to Amansala because the true conditions of the resort were not properly disclosed on the website. I received recommendations to stay here from others in my field, but this hotel runs on generators and there is not enough electricity to power the whole place, so we had to deal with power outages and a lack of air conditioning when the heat index was 103. There was no reprieve from the intense humidity. It was horrible. We were not treated as respected guests who should be taken care of; we had to demand decent rooms, constantly request air conditioning, and constantly complain in order to be heard. Exhausting and unacceptable on many levels. We just wanted to relax and enjoy a beautiful time together! There was a daily charge to use air conditioning during the day, which was not disclosed anywhere. Many rooms smelled of mildew and mold because they do not run air conditioning in them regularly. It also would have been nice to know there are no elevators, some stairs do not have handrails, and the common spaces do not have a/c either. Not sure how often the pools are actually cleaned. I found the food to be delicious, and of course the location on the beach is great. Double-check your bill to ensure you don't have erroneous charges or mistakes. This is a good practice regularly, of course. Please look elsewhere for a dreamy Mayan Rivieria retreat location, especially if you have a group that includes multiple generations. Many women in our group were truly suffering, and one even had to go home because she couldn't keep going in the heat without the air conditioning. No guests should have to endure this type of stressful experience when they are looking for a peaceful escape. If this place improves their electricity issues and incorporates integrity into their business practices, it could be a better choice, but I can't recommend it after what we went through. read more

Travelling alone for the last 6 months has been interesting to say the least - it most definitely has it's ups and downs. I am 23 years young and yes I am enjoying the freedom, but there also comes times of stress that I have a hard time escaping. I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason, and coming across Amansala during my adventure through Tulum was definitely one of them. I knew I needed time to reconnect with myself both mentally and physically, so I decided to treat myself and reboot by signing up for their famous bikini boot camp program. Not only were the fitness and yoga classes exactly what I needed, but the shala's themselves were just lovely! Always clean and organized, as well as my room (which had AC ahhhh so nice after spending a day out in the sun). One thing that really stuck out to me was the meal accommodations. Being gluten free and vegan, you can imagine how much of a pain my diet and eating out can be. They had no problem accommodating every single meal and snack for me! The staff was extremely friendly and happy to help with anything. The incredible views all around this eco chic resort, clear refreshing sea water and ocean breeze wasn't so bad either ;) I was hesitant at first being that I was solo and all, but I felt right at home within the first few hours after meeting everyone. The Spa Desk employees were very very kind and obliging as they showed me around, explained all activities and answered any silly questions I had! Leaving Amansala was emotional, in a good way of course. Just after one week there I felt a million times better all around. I will definitely be back, and plan on bringing friends next time :) read more

I was Born in Cancun and have not been to the Mayan Rivera and over 15 years. I came back to visit, but had to quickly leave Cancun as it is a huge ugly City, so I drove past Playa Del Carmen and went straight to Tulum. I remember Tulum as a tiny fishing Village, but see how much it has grown. Although Tulum is much bigger than I remember, it still has a very organic feel to it. I choose Amansala because Friends of mine have visited before and reved about the yoga, food and Beach. I have to say all my expectativas were met beyond what I thought. I am a yoga teacher and all the classes were taught by local teachers all with their own unique style and I loved them all. The food was amazing, healthy and fresh. The staff was outstanding and helped me with all my questions and concerns. I just really needed an extra fan one night and they literally sent someone to their hotel in Town to get me one.. Service with a smile.... The rooms are gorgeous, I had a full tour as after a few days there I realized I wanted to host a retreat with the hotel. It is Beautiful, run smooth and the yoga shalas are some of the most Beautiful I have seen.. Most importantly, Tulum has stayed Beautiful, so when I miss Mexico I know I don't have to go to Cancun..I can visit my Family in the City and then we can all take a weekend trip to Tulum, even better to Amansala!! Me despido muy agradecida con todo el personal ya que soy muy amables y atentos para con la gente que se encuentra en el hotel. sigan asi. read more

I had the absolute time of my life at the unforgettable Amansala. The space is so beautiful and so are the accommodating staff! Angel, Darlene, and Julian my masseuse were incredible and I cannot wait to return. The food was clean earing, delicious, fresh and filling! There are no words to express how beautiful it is to wake up to a resort where every need is met and you wake up in utter bliss to a caring staff, breezy beach day, and an authentic space. The resort is perfectly located in the middle of shops and restaurants. I spent over 500 at Shanti chic in amansala, just because the items are so exquisite! I highly recommend coming for 5-7 days , the longer the better. The rooms in Chica were spectacular, clean, breezy, and super economic chic. I had everything I needed and more. The views, the hammocks, the CuCumber melon juice, the massages, and activities were perfect. Please visit this place at least once in your life! This was hands down the vacation of my life. I'm still blissed out! read more
Amansala Beach Club is the perfect spot to kick off your Tulum experience--conveniently located right at the beginning of the hotel zone, it's super easy to get to without the long drive down the beach road. The vibe is relaxed yet stylish, with a perfect blend of natural beauty and thoughtful design. We spent the day lounging on the beach beds, sipping fresh juices and cocktails, and enjoying the gorgeous ocean view. The service was warm and attentive, and the food--especially the fresh ceviche--was delicious and beautifully presented. What really sets Amansala apart is the peaceful, wellness-oriented atmosphere. It never felt crowded or overly "scene-y," just calm and grounding. The music was chill, and the surroundings made it easy to unplug and enjoy the moment. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax, eat well, and soak in the best of Tulum's beach life. read more

Amansala is my new vacation destination. I came here on a solo trip for Bikini Bootcamp to try and kickstart my diet and workout routine and I got that and much more! The amazing staff are really what make it so special. They are so friendly and helpful with anything you need and the trainers really cared about our fitness goals and progress throughout the week. The FOOD was also AMAZING. The meals were designed to be healthy but you would never know you're eating "healthy" food -everything was so delicious- the breakfasts were my favorite! Yes, there was seaweed on the beach and unfortunately all of Tulum has it right now due to environment, but the resort staff were doing the best they can to keep it at bay and they have a beautiful sun deck, small pool and take you to 2 different fresh water cenotes so I never felt water deprived :) read more

I just got back from a great trip to Amansala. I loved the food, the rooms, the staff, and the beach....The dipping pool was nice, but we spent most of the time laying in the sun and getting in the water. Tulum had a bit of seaweed but it was beautiful by Amansala Chica. We also took advantage a tour the hotel offers to a local Mangrove, we biked there it was about 20 minutes away and we spent time kayaking, and jumping off the deck.. The owner was so nice she even offered to drive us there with her kids, since I had children, we all went together and had a great day! I definately recommend this place and would go back again and again.... Thank you Melissa and gang for an EPIC VACATION read more

What a special place! I came here to unwind and work on my book but ended up having such an incredible week. The resort is really beautiful and I loved the casual atmosphere and not having to wear shoes all week. The food was so fresh & healthy and I loved the fitness & yoga classes (to burn off the delicious margaritas & guacamole I was indulging in). My room was ocean front and I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to the beach. The staff here are all really awesome and friendly and remember your name and make you feel so welcome, almost like family. I look forward to coming back again this winter! read more

Amazing concept, it is the only one of its kind in Tulum. Quiet and friendly staff. The food is exactly what they advertise, health, simple and yummy. You feel at home here , the owner, the staff and everybody is very attentive. Please consider you are in an ecological sincere place that takes the environment very serious, you cant get straws here for example and the place is made almost entirely of local natural materials. This is not a 5 star hotel as you would not find any in Tulum due to the jungle ecological concept. Come here to relax, meditate, eat healthy and unpretentiously. I will def come back. read more

An incredible place to truly escape and rejuvenate! Beautiful chic hotel devoted to wellness and sustainability. The yoga and Bikini Bootcamp program is transformative; the yoga teachers and trainers are just amazing! The food is healthy and delicious and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Loved spending time lounging on the beach between classes and the tours are quite fun. My room was lovely, spacious and facing the ocean. Surely loved falling asleep to the waves every night and watching the sunrise from my terrace. Will definitely return next year. Thank you Amansala team! read more

We hosted our 2nd Sol-Axe retreat at Amansala and had a great experience. Their staff makes the place even more special (Juan, Lalo, Nelson, Jaime...); all of them are very helpful and attentive to the group's needs. We have even a better experience this year, knowing people and asking for the things we needed for the group. This year, we met Melissa, the owner, she was very helpful, welcoming and attentive! read more
