Booked a lesson and road test, we drove to the MVC for the road test and no practice lesson was offered. I did not get to warm up using the car or practice parallel parking before the test. They made me do my test earlier than my booking time, I paid for a lesson before the test but they did not do this. This made me very anxious on my test and I ended up failing on the parallel park. I will be using a different driving school before my next road test, a driving school that wants me to pass. This school only cares about taking your money! Do not recommend, there are plenty of other great driving schools in the area. read more

These people are very money minded and keep changing prices. The person told me the price of road test + lesson $180 and when my test day was close he changed the price to $260. He is not reliable at all. Terrible experience! Instructor (Raymond) basically drove the car the entire time, even when parallel parking. Specifically, hitting the breaks and steering. I did not learn anything and wasted my money on this lesson. On top of this, he was also condescending and patronizing. Prior instructor was amazing but was not available. read more

Today, I had an awesome experience with Amar driving school. I took one hour practice session before my road test at Newark's DMV. The instructor was very professional and explained everything about the test and skills which will be tested. We drove to a empty road where he had a setup of cones just like that at DMV. Parallel parking, K-turn and reversing were some of the skills he taught me. At the DMV, the inspector was really rude and terminated my test because he called one of my full stops as a rolling stop. Mr.Raju(from the driving school) was observing all this and he then complained about it to the supervisor at the DMV who agreed to conduct the test again(the supervisor conducted it) I passed the driving test with flying colors and I want to thank Amar Driving School for the help. Note: I took only one hour practice session because I had almost 4 years of experience and just wanted to brush up my skills. read more

I took my road test today for the first time at Newark and passed ! Yay ! I took two 1 hr classes in spring with Hector. He was nice and patient but I wasn't able to take the road test any time soon ..... until now. So I thought of brushing up my parking skills. I took one 2 hrs class yesterday and another 1 hr class today just before my road test with Tim. Tim is very polite, patient and funny ! His tricks are very clean and easy to follow and remember. He is very encouraging and I should have been at the test with him instead of the other guy who actually took me to DMV for the road test. Both instructors were very good but I do need to mention that scheduling is a little bit pain. And the guy who took me for the road test ( I guess Raju ) was a bit too rude. I'm Indian and I know how Indians can be but he was very pushy even for me. Since I passed my road test I hope people don't think I'm just some sore loser trying to blame others for my failure. He was very pushy ! and you don't need that when you're about to take a test .. any test ! In fact when we were waiting my turn at the DMV he kept on yelling "more left more left" when I was driving straight ... I said I can't I'm going to hit the cone but he didn't listen and asked me to drive more to the left and I ended up bumping against the cone and then I gave him the "I told you so" face and he said "Thank You" ... seriously ??? He himself is a very rash driver. But he was very polite and friendly to the DMV instructor onsite who gave me my road test .. and I was like why the hell can't he be nice to everyone :\ PS - I had an International Driving Permit so I drove around by myself even before I got the permit or license. read more

Worst driving school. Mahesh Bahai (Instructor) was very rude. I gave him tip. He was still crying for tips.

I took 1 revising class on the morning before my driving test and booked them for taking me to the center. I must say the experience was really nice. The instructor was super helpful. He helped to gain confidence over my driving skills and explained me how to pass the road test and most painful thing I.e. parallel parking. He made me practice parallel parking 8-10 times before my test and also told me the tricks to park perfectly in one go. I followed whatever he told me to do and I parked in one shot. Can't be more happy with the decision that I took to take driving classes from here. I passed the test in one go. The rates were very nominal. read more

Horrible experience!! The instructors (especially Mike) are rude, have no regard for someone's time and are greedy people. The instructor was loudly fighting with someone on phone while en route to our road test and did not stop despite multiple requests. It resulted in a headache before and during the road test and ton of nervousness. They reason that being rude will teach us driving during lessons. Raul is a very nice, professional and patient teacher, he taught me not only driving and Parking technics, but also how to drive and how to fix my parking, which are extremely useful. I haven't taken any driving classes before, but he is able to help me learn from beginning. It bears mention that I was very pleased with the caliber of instructors--at least, when I was scheduled, and not dealing with last-minute cancellations and literally hours of back-and-forth at this point. In my most recent experience, my last two appointments no-showed, and I was just hung up on by the office when trying to get things resolved, who will no longer return my calls. I had to cancel my road test appointment via email. Actually getting lessons is an absolute crapshoot, and I would suggest looking literally anywhere else. EDIT: I now see that I was not the only one who was bit by the sudden and unannounced price increase. One person, I can understand. Making a habit of it is more than a little sketchy. read more

I took 10 classes from Amar driving school and I had a very positive experience every-time. I had never driven before and wanted to get my driver's license (I cleared my road test in the very first attempt at Rahway :D). Their instructors are always on time, very patient and ensure that they teach for entire duration. Most importantly their cars are very well maintained and hence pretty smooth. Inconsistent and unreliable. The first lesson, a required 2 hours (which is a very long time to be in the car to begin with), was fine - the driver showed up on time and talked me through some of the turns and parking etc. I hated that he would just grab the wheel from me with no warning and turn for me sometimes - what's the point? He also talked to me about how much he hated the school he worked for, which is pretty bad form. Second lesson - scheduled it over the phone and no one showed up for it. I waited outside for a while - no one warned me or followed up after. Will not be going there again and definitely do not recommend. read more

The instructor, Raul, is pretty good, but the management is not. I had a scheduled appointment, however, when the instructor did not show up for 15 minutes, I called them up. The guy on the phone asked me when I had my road test scheduled. When I said, I did not need to give a road test, he said that Raul cannot make it today, but we can schedule something for tomorrow. When I started talking that he should have informed me and not waited for me to call, to inform me of this, he hangs up. When I redial him, it goes to voicemail (obviously!). The whole scheduling process is frustrating, there is barely any follow-up. Oh and yes, FYI - it appears that Ajay and Amar driving schools have merged, because I called up the number stated here, but the voicemail said this is Amar driving school. I strongly do not recommend this driving school. read more

I had my first lesson with Tim for 2 hours on a weekend (FYI if you are scheduling for weekends they make you take 2 hours as a minimum ($40/per hour)). My lesson was okay. I called back to schedule my next lesson and was hit with "we need you credit card information" when I asked why they said that they have a new policy where they ask for your credit card information and they only charge you if you cancel your appointment the day off. I personally do not feel comfortable giving out my credit card information to have on a file at some place where ANYONE can have access to it. It is a total invasion of privacy and when I asked if there was some disclosure/consent that I can sign, to make the whole thing legal/ cover both parties they said that they didn't have anything like that and I was basically releasing my credit card information at my own risk. Go with this school at your own risk... But they are highly sketchy. The whole conversation was very uncomfortable/rude and they didn't offer me any other options.. Also they quoted my 2 hour lesson at 70$ and day of my lesson my instructor informs me that they just raised the prices to 80$ for two hours. Apparently they do whatever they want and change prices whenever they feel like. read more

Very horrible experience. They just answers the call and blindly assign some day and time without confirmation with driver. At the end the driver will not turn up. When I call the office they say it was not confirmed and we tried to call you and you did not answer the call and we cancelled. I don't suggest anyone to this. read more

Today, I passed my road test and I'm really thankful for my driving instructor Raul for being excellent in teaching me and giving me advice and tips to prepare me for my roadtest.Im heavily pregnant at 7 months and he was very patient with me and made me comfortable during my lessons. On my roadtest today I was quite nervous but Michael who accompanied me to Newark gave me a few practice lessons and let me drive to the track where the examiner will take me for my road test.
