My experience at Amara was underwhelming. Booking online was easy, and they have a cozy space underneath Mugs in Old Town. I filled out the typical intake form before my appointment, but unlike every other professional massage I've had, my therapist did not ask me anything about my symptoms or the style of massage I'd like. The massage itself was okay, but then again at the end, she just said have a nice day. Again, at every other similarly priced massage place in town, at the end of a massage the therapist waits for you to change and then asks you how you feel or answers questions. I give Amara 5 stars because if you are looking for a relaxing experience out of your massage you will get that here. I've been here twice with two separate massage therapists and both experiences were great. I'm a runner and so they asked in advance what to work on with my legs, did an excellent job, and I was relaxed. It's located in Old Town down a set of stairs right next to a restaurant on College and Olive. So, it's a bit hidden but that kind of adds to the feel of it all to me. Also, just be aware of your appointment and prime moments for Old Town and parking. Lobby is relaxing enough for the space and staff were kind. The reason that despite giving 5 stars that I hesitate on returning is because I am fairly certain they have raised their prices on massages. It is now $99 for a 1-hour massage and I'm fairly certain it was $80 when I got my first massage there around or less than a year earlier. Maybe I'm wrong but that was strange to me. Perhaps these are Fort Collins rates now but I'm well aware I could get a more affordable, equally high quality massage and experience elsewhere so I may. So consider that component if you are price-conscious but if you are willing to pay this amount, you will have a great experience. read more

A couple weeks ago I got a massage from Ashley for 30 minutes but I was so gosh darn friggin' rootin' tootin' mad that it was only 30 minutes. But thats all that was available & I needed a massage bad, so I just went back & got a 90 minute massage from her & it was a mix of heavenly & spectacular. I received a gift card last year that I finally redeemed. I left this facility wishing that I would have brought a larger tip; Meredith deserved more than I was able to offer after the session ended. It was amazing and the essential oils were a very nice touch. Catie, the owner, scheduled my appointment and suggested Emili based on my request for a deep tissue massage and firm pressure. I don't go to massage for relaxation. I go to work the knots out of my muscles. Amara is cozy and calm and clean. I chose [complimentary] eucalyptus aromatherapy and settled in under a heated blanket. I like that you're able to customize the massage to your trouble areas. In this case, I elected to have Emili focus on some tight muscles instead of do a whole body treatment. When I left, my stiff neck was erased. Emili will chat as little or as much as you like, and gave me some promising local restaurant recommendations. On the way out, I chatted with the GM, Devon. Everyone seems to truly enjoy working there and it shines through in their client service. They also offer some great discounts/loyalty programs. Went for a massage yesterday....not impressed at all. The entrance feels like a rent-by-the-hour motel. They really could do to improve the feeling/ambiance of the entry and lobby! They had me fill out many questions about my health and what I wanted/didn't want in a massage. The masseuse obviously did not read this and asked what I wanted. I expressed that I want focus on my legs/feet/hands & scalp and that I never really felt like a back massage was beneficial for me. She spent the first 45 minutes on my back! I went to Amara last weekend to take advantage of of a $10 off incentive that I had been given. I'm so happy I did. Both work and personal life had been really stressful for a month, and with an hour long massage starting at $45 (if you want a more experienced therapist it will go up by $10 an hour up to $75) I decided to treat myself to an hour and a foot scrub. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful in helping me pick a therapist, and when I needed to reschedule for a few hours later due to my car needing some repair work. The therapist I initially chosen had to cancel due to a bee sting on her hand, but luckily they rescheduled me with Brittany (a bit more experienced) and didn't charge me any extra. Brittany herself was excellent with answering questions I had and using the proper amount of pressure. If I hadn't had a large coffee earlier I think I would've fallen asleep. I like their pricing and atmosphere, however their turnover of therapists seems to be kind of high, so it is a bummer when you find a therapist you like and they wind up leaving. This is probably the best place to go for a massage in the Noco area!! The atmosphere is warm and tranquil - from the very start! You'll be greeted by a smiling receptionist in a dimly lit room and your massage therapist will come to take you back to your private room. This is where you will discuss your expectations and you can chose to have complimentary aromatherapy at this point. Once you are ready and your therapist comes back in the room, the magic happens!! The face rest is so comfortable and scented. You're even given the option of a heated table!! They give you a full 60 minutes on the table! Time starts when your massage starts. Unlike those "chain" massage companies. And the massage is perfect! When it comes to an end (bummer) your therapist will be waiting for you outside the room with a cup of water. Checkout is still warm and you get to pick a special gift your first time. :) I cant wait to return in two weeks. I was experiencing severe pain in my neck and upper back and almost no mobility in the neck before my appointment yesterday. The person I spoke with on the phone recommended Jeff, a very seasoned therapist, after hearing some of my symptoms. Jeff targeted my trouble areas, was very communicative about what he was doing (he picked up on the fact that I was very fearful of overextending myself), and gave me some tips to take home. I did not expect to be healed after one visit given the immense amount of pain I was in, but today I feel so much better! I have some mobility back in my neck, and the pain is less severe. I'm only in town for a short while for a business trip, so I won't continue my treatment with Jeff, but if you're experiencing pain in your neck and back, I highly recommend Amara! read more

I have lived in Fort Collins for one year now, after having been backpacking the world, and have had massages all over from all different disciplines and styles. I received 90 minute sessions from both Jeff and Meredith, both level 3 therapists, and I cannot begin to say how grateful I am for their concern and care for my well being matched with their knowledge and intuition. It takes a lot to be a good massage therapist, and I couldn't be happier. Meredith recently has assisted me in overcoming a lot of pain due to tight hips/glutes. She recommended a therapy called cupping that I had never tried before, and it did wonders for my body. I am so grateful. Pay the extra for a level 3 therapist. My therapist is Carly, she is wonderful! I have a friend who goes to JaNea, and speaks very highly of her! I'm a waitress and am on my feet all day, my massages here are the only relaxing parts of my month. Carly only charges $50 an hour and I think she is a mid-level therapist. I have continued struggles regarding deep tissue massages at this studio. I am very clear with the receptionist and therapists about my needs and feel the therapists cannot deliver. During my last massage with Iain, I think was his name, I very directly stated I wanted deep pressure in the shoulder area. The massage started off great but perhaps I got my hopes up too early. I requested he increase pressure and focus on my shoulders and he stated he was just getting started. However, he never retuned to this area and did not increase pressure. He even began yawning during the massage. This type of treatment is a common theme with therapists in this studio and I will not be going back at this point. read more
