The place was crowded with tourists (Surprise, surprise) but it doesn't matter. The staff were helpful and proactive at cutting the line down. I can't wait to drop back in to collect more darling tins, foreign candies and souveneirs for home.
What a delightful candy shop!…read more While on a day trip to Oxford to show my 10yo daughter where she *will* be attending university (hey, a mom can dream!), we happened upon this absolutely wonderful little shop, filled to bursting with every delicious sweet you could imagine! All of the standard favorites: humbugs, sherbet dips, chocolate-covered everything, fruit-shaped everything...you get the idea. But imagine my absolute surprise when I spied a shelf stocked with American candy, cereals, and snacks...including my favorite: Cheetos. Not even 48 hour prior, I was telling my husband that I would go to obscene lengths to have a bag of Cheetos, so strong was my craving for the vile snack food. Little did I know that all I needed to do was go to Oxford and visit Hardy's. Sorted! Now excuse me while I go wash the orange from my fingers...

Buttered brazils, strawberry Fizz Wizzes, humbugs of various stripes, liquorice is all its awful guises (I hated it) including the packet of sherbert with a liquorice stick inside like a small firework. Those flying-saucer sherbets in different art-deco colours; aniseeed balls, pear drops, barley sugar, sarsparilla, sherbert lemons. A treasure trove. Interestingly, most are still made in Scotland and the North of England. It's a labour of love by the owner, Judith Burnett, to keep each jar stocked. How lucky we are that she does.

Hooray Monica R - we agree on the spelling! Well, you can imagine this shop right at the end of the Willy Wonka factory tour. Rows upon rows of clear jars containing old style sweets. The assistants are happy to advise and offer little tastings. Your choice of goodies are packaged in retro style paper bags to take away and share. Whether you're looking for some nostalgia about the sweets you grew up with or to discover some new taste sensation, Mrs Kibble's is definitely worth a visit.

I will always stop by this place when I visit England! They have packaged candy as well as hand-made chocolates! Both of which are delicious! I was also happy to see that they had sugar-free chocolate. Some of my family members are diabetic, so I was looking for something they could enjoy too. Mr. Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe was perfect! The packaged candy is a mixture of retro and modern; golden nugget gum, candy 'sticks' and that dipping powder with the sugar wand were some of the old favourites. The pick and mix items are all behind the counter, meaning the shopkeeper has to pour things out for you individually. This isn't my favourite method of picking candy. I like a tiny bit of a bunch of things, and I'd feel guilty about making someone open so many different containers...However, I suppose the set up is their idea. The gift items include mixed candies in stylish bundles, along with several candy-shaped non-edible items: magnets, candles, erasers etc that look like cakes and donuts. My friend and I went with some almond nougat and sugar mice to help us shop until dinner time.
