My experience with exchanging currency at this shop: I had leftover Canadian currency so after I purchased my souvenir items I exchanged my CAN into USD. The exchange rate was 1 CAN dollar = 0.7117 USD. Which to me was accurate for that day (5.29.17). Also there was a .50 cent transaction fee that I felt was MORE than reasonable. On the way into Canada I missed the duty free shop and had to exchange my US money at a local bank in Windsor. They charged a 2.50 transaction fee. I would definitely recommend exchanging your money at a duty free shop if necessary. My bank card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee so I felt the small charge at the duty free shop was well WORTH IT.

As soon as I walked in, there was a giant display of the exact liquor that I was looking for and the bottle of liquor, came with a special flask so basically getting two things for the price of one and that was pretty awesome and then I needed some Zyn's for another family member and this place was so cool. They had regular Zyns and the European Zyns with higher milligrams. The person working also helped me pick out a cigar (which I know nothing about) and give me a couple cigar boxes that I could use as gift boxes absolutely cannot recommend this place enough if you're looking for any liquor, tobacco products and anything like that definitely stop in. But for basic (or even foreign) goods it seems ridiculous to buy here instead of a normal grocery store or one of the myriad ethnic shops around. The real star is the cheese selection. They don't have much out, but they have a multi-page list of what they have in stock and they are both knowledgeable and generous with samples. I picked up a really interesting 12-year aged cheddar and tried a few others. There are always a couple of samples out but I've found them unexciting. They have an equally impressive list of meats but I haven't had the chance to explore those. Take the original (and super cool) elevator up to the second or third floors and you can find all kinds of knick knacks from lawn ornaments to Detroit gear. I'm not sure if it was a sale or not, but the last time I was there I picked up a decent quality t shirt for a mere $10. Overall it's a cool store and definitely worth checking out, but unless you're looking for a particularly rare cheese the likelihood of finding anything worth purchasing is slim.

The option of waiting 2 hours for more baked goods was completely out of the question since I had another mile to go before I got back home, and I was hungrier than 3 bears. I decided to hit the panaderia in the morning like normal people do. So I went next door to La Carreta and found a wonderful little shop filled with goodies from Mexico and the US. Everything from a wooden tortilla press for 39.99, to a pack of coconut candy for a mere 2 bucks. They don't have tortillas, but they do carry everything else including a wide variety of hot sauces, which are a little higher than what you would find down the block at Prince Valley. The more exotic candies for sale were tamarind candy in several different forms, and my favorite, watermelon candy with chili pepper filling. I'm not brave enough to try either one, but I am sure that someone somewhere likes that sort of thing. They have all the things a normal store should have plus a wide variety of dried peppers and beans in bulk, plus a small assortment of fresh produce, like roma tomatoes, and peaches.
