The exchange rate was 1 CAN dollar = 0.7117 USD. Which to me was accurate for that day (5.29.17). Also there was a .50 cent transaction fee that I felt was MORE than reasonable. On the way into Canada I missed the duty free shop and had to exchange my US money at a local bank in Windsor. They charged a 2.50 transaction fee. I would definitely recommend exchanging your money at a duty free shop if necessary. My bank card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee so I felt the small charge at the duty free shop was well WORTH IT.

When you're facing a long delay, there isn't much to do beyond finding a place to eat or grabbing a drink, and the food and beverage prices are what you'd expect from an airport. If you're simply passing through on schedule, DTW is a pleasant and efficient airport. But when delays happen, the lack of activities and retail options can make the wait feel much longer.
