Serving as the British pub onboard the Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas, Amber & Oak has the largest selection of beers on the ship (which really isn't that big compared to Norwegian, and they don't have draft). Being next to the pizza cafe, it was an easy place to stop in daily for my brother to pick up his daily allotment of 4 drinks and allowed me to sample the various beers. Tried Crown Lager, Furphy Refreshing Ale, Great Northern Super Crisp Lager, Hahn Premium, Tooheys New, Victoria Bitter, and XXXX Gold. After going through the IPA explosion for the past 10 years, it was nice to try more ales that weren't so bitter. Even the beer, Victoria Bitter, wasn't that bitter and had a good finish.
We also ended up trying their Royal Pub Burger ($8, with $2 extra for cheese or bacon). It's a 8oz double beef patty with standard backyard bbq toppings. It definitely better than the cheeseburger at the buffet, but probably not worth the extra charge. If one is really craving a good beef burger on RC, going to the steakhouse is probably the way to go. read more
