To help relieve couples of headache and stress, caterers and event planners created wedding packages which include amenities and styling, not just food. Clearly, this is now a flourishing business. Attending a wedding expo gave me the opportunity to listen to the sales pitch of various caterers. After a day of talking to a number of them, I was able to limit my options to a few which have value features that come at a reasonable price. One such caterer is M Catering and Fine Foods (under Michelin Cuisine and Fine Foods, Inc). In fairness, I initially thought that it belongs to the unreasonably lavish high-end bracket favored by celebrities and socialites. As a matter of fact, one of the first promo cards they handed me was a picture of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. Proudly, they claimed to be the caterer to the couple's so-called Royal Wedding. Subsequently, however, I discovered that in terms of value for money deals, M Catering compared favorably with the competitors. It promised amenities and decent theme styling with the absence of a multitude of additional charges that makes calculation more complex than necessary. They had just a few extra charges and they instantly showed me how to do the computation. As far as the menu is concerned, M Catering offers a wide variety of international dishes even for their lowest priced package. This offers relief from the usual run of reception menus of which most everyone is tired by now. Lastly, a word of advice to the wise bride and groom: In looking for a caterer do not simply compare the standard quoted prices but take into account the value of the product and the amenities and styling that come with the package. Most importantly, beware of rules and additional charges that the caterer may have inserted among the fine print.

From your expert advice to the impeccable service from the banquet staff, everything far exceeded our expectations! Our guests were delighted and loved the food and drinks! And we would bring it to family gatherings, to parties or whenever there would be a group thing at home. That's Ado's Panciteria for us. For a long long looooong time everyone would get theirs from there even if it mean going all the way to the heart of Pasig which would mean braving traffic and enduring the travel to go there. That's how much we loved Ado's! Though there are more places to get your pancit fix and really, more convenient. My mom would sometimes drag me there early morning and we would order so much to last us till her/our next craving. What to get: UGH! where to start?! Okay. Get the Bihon, because that's what we always have. With a side order of Lumpiang Shanghai or Camaron Rebusado or BBQ. Mom likes her pancit with pan de sal so you can go ala mom and get that too. Service wise, they've got good staff. I have to mention that since they're really patient with us and they make sure that we're always set.

The sourdough is still in the menu, and it's still great. If you're familiar with Josh Boutwood's restaurants, the sourdough breais a mainstay. The standouts were the third and sixth course. The third course was the cavatelli, corn, cured lamb. It's very flavorful and creamy. The sixth course was the beef cheek, potato, mushroom. The beef cheek was very tender with the right amount of saltiness. Combine the beef with the sauce and mashed potato, to complete the flavor profile. Would definitely come back again, the new menu was great.

Half British. Half Filipino. A young chef who is well respected, award winning, and is called the chef's chef. He currently is a culinary director of a restaurant group. Test Kitchen allows him an outlet to be more creative. I asked him about his Noma experience, and he told me he was there for about a week as it was too expensive in Copenhagen. Test Kitchen is a private dining space. You'll have contact chef Josh to reserve. I met a food writer and she was able to text Josh and tell him to save me a seat for dinner. When I walked in, I was alone. Through most of the experience, I was the sole diner enjoying the tasting menu. It felt super exclusive. Chef Josh personally came over and explained each dish. I thought it was going to be like Wolvesmouth where you arrive and you sit with a group of random strangers. A couple hours later a group came in to celebrate a birthday party. It felt a little awkward, but as they entered, I was down to my last course. If you are a gastrotourist looking to eat at the best restaurants in Manila, do not miss the Test Kitchen. The chef is constantly experimenting and explained to me that his food is best described as "ingredient and time driven." I am already looking forward to a return trip to see what chef Josh has up his sleeves. Highly recommended!

Shabu shabu seems to me kinda like pho in that it takes some experimenting to figure out how you like it, which, therefore, means you need to try it several times before you find your perfect combination. Or maybe I'm just the only person in the world who finds pho meh. After my experience at Lau Chan, I'm inclined to think the same about shabu shabu. Either we were ineffective at ordering the right combination or perhaps I just didn't like it. All I know is it wasn't a "love at first bite" experience as I've encountered with countless other new cuisines and as I was hoping based off the reviews. Helpful tourist information: This was a difficult spot for us to find. The restaurant is 4-5 blocks south of the Yelp map location. The servers didn't speak much English and even when we used Tagalog they didn't seem too keep on explaining or helping us with the menu. I'm not sure what people mean by cheap but our meal for two people (one large, sharable soup) was comparatively one of the most expensive in Manila. If you're into shabu shabu, according to the other reviews, Lau Chan seems like a great place to go. I wouldn't recommend going if you don't know much about it and think you'd have trouble communicating to the staff.

Located at the heart of Binondo on Ongpin Street, Bee Tin has not changed much over the years, making it a must-see stop in Chinatown. The Chinese deli/food mart has everything you need from preserves, imported food, Chinese candies and sweets, cured/smoked meats, dehydrated produce, frozen goods and more. I really like going here because there's so much to see and buy that's not usually in your local grocery. I think I picked up the habit of learning how to appreciate delis such as Bee Tin thanks to my grandma who'd always bring me whenever she needs to replenish her supply of preserves. Speaking of preserves, you really have to taste Bee Tin's selection because there's a lot of them! They are neatly stored in bins and you can buy them according to weight. My favorites are the plums - they are pretty large and the mix of sweet and sour has a nice effect on the palette. Another thing I'm crazy about is Bee Tin's beef jerky. While they also have the packaged kind of beef jerkey (I'm looking at you Cow Label), their own mix of the large and leathery strips of beef is a class of its own. You can also purchase these according to weight, and we tend to buy a lot of it. (Might as well make the drive worth it right?) The taste of the beef jerky plays between sweet and salty and the meat itself isn't too hard to chew on. Before I go to the check out counter, I also make a beeline to the chocolates and candies section. Sometimes they stock these really weird but good gummy candies from China (I once bought P5 packets of peach and cola flavored candies - these were really good!), and they also have imported Japanese chocolate snacks like Pocky. Other stuff you can see at Bee Tin are the packaged noodle soups, dry seaweed, Chinese candies and chocolates, haw flakes and lots more other stuff. Another plus for Bee Tin is that their prices are a lot cheaper than in regular groceries.
