After receiving an email touting AMC Summer Movie Camp (reduced-price tickets for older kid's movies), and trying in vain for days to find the showtimes for the first day (June 23) so I could take my grandsons, and seeing showtimes at lots of other AMCs, and then trying in vain to reach someone on the phone there, my daughter called and, after repeating several times what it is that she wanted, she was told "Oh, we aren't doing that here." Just as my family entered the Sycamore, Illinois AMC theatre on December 26 to see Moana, the power went out. An employee, Trevor, quickly took charge of the situation, issuing us gift coupons because we had purchased our tickets ahead of time. He remained professional and calm as scores of movie goers left their seats inside needing help with refunds. Kudos to Trevor and AMC. read more

This is literally the worst theater I've ever gone to. Their prices are outrageous for how horrible the place is. One theater I was in had cobwebs all over like it hasn't been cleaned in years and the one we were just in felt like they didn't have the air conditioning on and it's 90 degrees outside. The manager there must not be ordering appropriate amount of what they need because they are out of tons of things. AND I've had to call them because my daughter left her blanket there and I was going to let them know what theater and see if they found it, I've called 4 times and no one ever answers the phone. They are not a busy theater (I was just there) I know it's not busy but no one can answer a phone call? I will forever travel to a different location to see a movie from now on... Recently we have been trying to stay local instead of going out. But this time was just honestly so disappointing. Movie was fantastic, but everything else was terrible. The place itself is filthy, floors are sticky all the time, and we forgot something inside and even though what I think was a supervisor was there, said he could let us in. And if it was about security then he could have easily just walked with one of us to retrieve it. Super rude and condescending. At this point for a way we were treated I would rather drive out than go back there. read more

We rented out one of the theaters here for my cousins birthday. We showed up a little early before the people with the reservation QR code. Myself and my 13 year old cousin had to use the restroom, but were denied entrance because we had to wait till the QR code was there. Keep in mind there were 8 adults and 2 other kids there. It's not like we could have possibly snuck into a theater or whatever the bathroom police thought. Tone was rude and aggressive. Will not be coming back. Didn't get the chief of bathroom polices name but im sure he's had multiple complaints. Good business is about taking care of your customers. Your employees are most likely making AMC lose money. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars, the only reason for 1 star is because we saw Star Wars! I didn't read through the previous reviews prior to coming here; wish I would have - so true! The price for the movies, was comparatively the same for what we pay in Southern California, but that's based on the reel cost and not actually determined by the actual theaters. So, for three people seeing the film, we paid $24.00, add on another $20 for the popcorn and drinks and we settled in to see Star Wars....although, you couldn't "settle in". The seats in this place are made to almost eject you - they are pitched forward, so if you're sitting through a standard 160 minute film, beware - you'll be needing to find a chiropractor after you see the movie! Not to mention the 30 minutes of previews and useless ads you're forced to sit through prior to even seeing the movie! Ridiculous! The only reason this place gets movie goers is because there's no place else to see a new release in this one horse town! I can see why everything keeps moving out of the area. read more

So going to the movies at AMC is now gonna be like going to a rock concert or a Broadway show. Word is they plan to start charging extra for "preferred seating"; in other words, seats down in front will be cheaper than those further back with a better view of the screen. Very slow and annoying with bad service even it gets more dirtiest over everywhere at this amc theater .. I find it so disgusting to etep on something ti gets too sticky over all seats floor while we watch movie... No subtitles... sucks! The remodel has definitely helped rectify the problems with uncomfortable seating - you could fall asleep in the Premiere Loungers, for shit's sake. You can select seats online as well, and the website will provide an up-to-the-minute diagram showing how many seats have been filled in the theater - very helpful if you want privacy on a date / want to avoid a crowded show / want to make sure the movie you're seeing is being presented on one of the theater's larger screens. I'm honestly not sure why people have an issue with the lobby. Who the hell goes to the movies just to hang out in the lobby? Yes, there's popcorn everywhere - the Catch-22 of filling buckets past the top and DeKalb generally being full of slobs - and there isn't always a helluva lot of staff on-hand besides the manager and one or two token employees. Pricing has gone up ever since Carmike went under and AMC took over. Not a problem on my part, since I sneak my own stuff in, but I've heard a lot of people making the snack-counter kids aware of just how ridiculous the current price of popcorn is. read more

While I am very glad AMC bought out this location from Carmike, it is incredibly overpriced for our small community. We are not St.. Charles or Batavia where it is a higher income bracket, but a small college town and one or two neighboring farm towns. $13 for a movie...no more $5 movies on Tuesday's, but at least you get to bring your bucket until the end of 2017! Ps. The old carpet should have been replaced when they did the remodel. It still reeks of early 2000's! read more

Tonight my grandson and I went to the DeKalb location. The seats were great! However, when entering the theater you are smacked with a horrible, over powering smell of old wet towels left in your washer for two days. With the 15.00 dollar popcorn that was stale maybe they could purchase a dehumidifier. I will be going out of town for movies from now on. read more

Took my family of 4 here on Sunday 9/23/18. The short version is that the employees (front desk and concessions) were super rude. If I were a manager who heard employees treat customers like that, they would be fired on the spot. We bought tickets online, but still had to wait in the ticket line to pick up our tickets. That was no big deal, because there was only one person at the ticket counter. I waited at the front of the line for that person to finish their purchase. I approached the ticket counter when that person was done. I was literally standing at the counter when the cashier looked over my shoulder at a person who had walked up in some sort of VIP line and asked them to step to the front. She then looked at me and said in a snotty tone "They are movie club members. You'll have to wait." I WAS LITERALLY STANDING AT THE COUNTER BEFORE THEY WERE IN LINE. I said "I bought my tickets online - I really just want to pick them up." Again, she was totally rude and said "You will have to wait until they are done. Those are the rules." After the "club member" finished their purchase, I approached (again) and it literally took less than 30 seconds to print my tickets. IF YOUR BUSINESS HAS A POLICY OF TREATING PAYING CUSTOMERS LIKE CRAP, YOUR POLICY SUCKS. The next stop was the concessions stand. I was buying popcorn and drinks for my family to share. The concessions board had a giant popcorn bucket with one drink as a special, but that was the only one I saw. I asked if there were any other combos that come with more drinks, and the answer was "the combos are on the board." That was insightful. I said "I see the one that comes with one drink, I wanted to get more drinks than that. Are there any others besides that one?" The response: "Well you can buy your drinks separately for that one." By that point I was really done with being talked down to by 2 employees of this place. The ONLY good thing about this experience was the reclining seats were pretty comfortable. I would urge you to try them at any theater besides this one. This theater has 2 stars for a reason. I wish I would have looked on Yelp before buying my tickets. We usually don't have any issues at this theatre until today. My step dad bought my mom a medium drink but the cashier asked if they wanted to upgrade for free so he did. My mom ended up having an arthritis flare up that day and couldn't hold the large cup so she asked for a medium. The cashier refused to give her a medium cup because they bought a large....I ended up buying a medium for her. I understand this messes with inventory but come on! Went to watch Captain Marvel yesterday at 9:45 PM in room 8, the fan was making a weird sound that was disruptive and people were complaining the whole time because they couldn't hear the movie, it was really difficult to concentrate on the movie because of this noise. When I left the movie room and went to the entrance to complain about the noise no one was there, there wasn't even one employee in the whole theatre. In addition to that the doors were locked and we left through one emergency exit door. I honestly was worried because there wasn't anyone to tell us that the just one door was unlocked, what if for whatever reason we need to leave the place in a hurry? I thought it was a major safety issue. Never going back. I will drive out of my way but I won't ever go back to the location in Dekalb. Apparently they knew about the broken AC fan for over a year, this is not ethical, I paid for a service and I want the best for what i paid. read more

I am very disappointed how nasty and disgusting the Dekalb AMC Theatre is getting. It's so filthy. I'm afraid to touch anything. Seats are broken and garbage is not picked up after a showing. Me and my son see a movie almost every weekend and we used to go to the dekalb theatre but because it's been so dirty lately, we changed to Hollywood in Woodridge. Employees are so nice at Hollywood and it's very clean. Dekalb customer service is unpleasant and when we walk in to our theatre, there is always popcorn buckets, wrappers and filth left over from previous viewers. It's like management gave up on this theatre. I don't know what's going on but I'm thinking it won't stay in business much longer. This is the place to go when you just can't make it to Batavia but you really want to see that movie and the threat of leaving with upper respiratory problems doesn't phase you because you are THAT determined. "Well, nobody's perfect," said Joe E. Brown as Osgood Fielding III in Some Like it Hot. And Market Square Ten is definitely no exception to that. In fact they don't even appear to be trying. There are a chosen few here whom I would love to single out as particularly stale, trite and insipid, but the regulations of Yelp do not allow for such singularity. The help here is mostly bad-mannered, curt and intrusive. If a theatre is going to be geriatric and putrid at least try to add a little artistry by adding Fathom events to your list of movie showings. And please hire sociable convivial amicable staff. Somehow if a movie theatre building itself is lame and the people who work there dull but you have older movies available to watch, it almost makes those previous grievances forgivable, classy even. But they don't...so I won't... Also, their movies NEVER start at the specified time. Your movie starts at 9:30?? You'll be starting at 10:00. So don't worry if you're running late. And these are not just the previews. I actually really enjoy previews. But it's all the advertising drivel that pays them to have their name up on the screen. Plus your chairs make cinder blocks look like Lazy Boys. Two syllables one word: update. read more

It is safe to say that I am a regular of this theatre. Ive lived in the area my whole life and this has been my local theatre. Proces for tickets on new releases can be high, however their regular ticket prices are just that, regular. If prices is an issue they give tons of opportunities to save some bucks. The 4 oclock matinees are fantastic and much more.convenient than noon showings. The rewards card and refill bucket have saved me a lot of money over the last couple years. This is not the theatre of kings, it is the theatre of the common man. The floor has some grip to it, but the staff is dedicated and personable these days which it wasnt always in the past. They do their best to get all major film releases, and they even do 10 oclock premiers for us comic book nerds who cant wait to get our fix. The seats are fairly large, but comfort is subjective anywhere you go. I have always enjoyed my experiences here and have never left wishing I hadnt come in. Well accept for the Star Wars Prequals. But that certainly wasnt their fault. Keep it up Market Square. Keep fighting the good fight. You arent the biggest or shiniest, but you are ours. read more

I created a yelp account just to write this review. I really wish i could give this place 5 stars. I really do. But today my gf took me here to see infinity war in theater 8, and it was below a 1 star experience. They have an issue with the AC in that theater, and it rattles SO LOUD that i can hear it over the characters talking. I was not happy and i let the manager there know that to say the least. On top of a consistent rattle that sounds like crickets that doesn't stop, ever, i paid $11 for two waters. TWO WATERS, $11. ALSO! Believe it or not they KNEW about the rattle for 3 months now and STILL!!! play movies in that theater. I told the manager there "why don't you just play the movie in a different theater", and he said, "Thats not how it works". I will never come to this theater again. AMC.....you are a pathetic example of a movie theater and should be ashamed to call your self one. read more

Except for films that you can only sometimes find in little theaters in Chicago, Market Square shows pretty much everything you want to see. They also have film in 3D and are going to be showing a series of films of the San Fransisco Opera, which is really exciting. Usually clean, stadium seating, friendly staff. Prices on concessions are reasonable as movie theaters go. read more

This is an ok theater. If you are a regular, they have really good popcorn deals. The price is kind of high for evening movies, but the place is clean. It is not flashy and you can get in to see a new movie. Sure their might be a line at 7pm, but the 10pm show will be open. As the local theater, it gets the job done. Oh! It is tricky to find. I take my movies seriously. I love them. I consider myself a film aficionado. That's why when I first moved to DeKalb, I was kind of disappointed. I went to Market Square Cinemas and found the theater to be entirely average. My biggest problem with the theater is that the seats are really uncomfortable. Besides my seat complaint, I don't think there is anything else wrong with it though, like i said its pretty average. There's nothing that really sets itself apart from other theaters. Anyway...like I said, I love movies. So despite the seats, I'll still be hanging out here to see whatever movie is out, that catches my fancy. read more

But it's seriously annoying arriving here on a FRIDAY NIGHT, and there's no one at the front ticket counter; I have to wait in line in the concessions, even though I have an electronic ticket.
