Long story short my sister got scammed and sent me the money to help purchase a vehicle. I used my Wells Fargo account to make the purchase while leaving the original cash in Amegy. I read a lot that Amegy care about their clients. You figure that would be the case with someone who has been with them for 17 years. Instead of going after the individual that scammed my sister, Amegy froze my personal account, business account and wife's account. Finally closed all of my accounts after 38 years of abuse by this lousy, self-centered, fee-gouging bank. I started with Klein Bank as our primary bank when we moved to The Woodlands in 1987. After a year I was so fed up with lousy service, antiquated technology, and fees out the wazoo that I moved 99% of our business to Chase. My plan was to keep the Klein account just long enough for everything to clear and then close it out. I was very busy at the time and never got around to closing the accounts because there was never a convenient time to go to a branch during their inconvenient self-centered hours. Klein Bank was later acquired by Southwest Bank of Texas which made things worse. More rudeness, more fees, more antiquated technology, more arrogant self-centered employees. Southwest Bank of Texas was so bad that they changed their name to Amegy Bank. The name change did not help because this bank was still rotten to the core. This year I had enough and finally closed all accounts. Did they ask why? No, they couldn't care less. Did they say thank you for being a customer for 38 years? No. Not a single time in 38 years did anyone ever say thank you. The only words spoken by the officer were "if there are any future debits to any of the accounts, here is a list of fees that you will be charged." Great, more stinking fees by a bank that couldn't care less about its customers. I'm embarrassed that I kept the accounts for as long I did, but I'm pleased knowing that I will never interact with this greedy, thankless, fee-gouging bank again. read more

We are a small business owner who has banked with Amergy for many years. We own a Red Wing Shoe in BellaireTX. Our business like many in the Houston have had checks stolen from the mail as report on Oct 8th on NBC channel 2 at 10pm about the 1M mail check fraud emplayer. We reported our incident to the Bellaire Police and got an incident no. We went to the bank reported the falsified checks from the mail and gave them the police incident no. to put in the report. I have been with this banking institution for over 30 years. For the last couple of years I have become displeased with the overall banking. The business hours are awful. They have true banking hours from 9-5 and if you have to do banking outside of the scope of these hours to bad. I live in Texas City and work in Galveston and there are no close branches anymore. They started out giving more free ATM fees to compensate for this but this has stopped! I only get one free ATM charge! I ordered a new ATM card never received it I called and they saw where I called and requested a new card but it was never ordered! So the wait game begins again. Ok, so I close accounts back in Sept of 2021. There happened to be one auto draft that was missed in converting to be bank. They kept accepting the auto draft yet the account was closed. Terrible bank. Processes and technology works like it's 1999. Their app works like it's built for a flip phone. They are very nice and very incompetent. Their processes are inane and they just repeat them over and over and over again when you try to ask for something logical. Even after closing the account I am haunted by these morons. They reopened a closed account because I somehow had an account linked to it that sent a deposit for ~$3. I didn't authorize this. So then more than a month later some company sent through an unauthorized draft and now Amegy says we are overdrawn. I closed the account!? read more

I would put my money under my mattress before I would deal with Amegy. I used the Amegy Branch on Wirt and the Branch Manager Ms Ford has to be the worst and ruddiest banking person I have met. I have 4 business accounts and a personnel account and I am closing them all. If I could give this bank negative stars, I would. I applied for a business credit card with a sign up bonus. First of all, the application process is like being approved for a mortgage. They make you fill out a whole several sheet spreadsheet and take weeks to give you an answer. In addition, they make you come into the branch to set up online banking. After I was finally approved for the business credit card, they automatically set up a second account called a "control" account. This is a completely unnecessary fiction if you are the only cardholder. Their customer service reps don't even know what's going on when you call for explanations of their accounting. And to top it off they don't keep their word on sign up bonuses and 0% interest period. I will close my account as quickly as humanly possible and never deal with this joke bank again. read more

We have been customers at Amegy for over twenty years. As such, we are used to the ups and downs of any long-term financial entity that oversights your money. However, I have NEVER had such appalling customer service as I have had with Amegy in the past two weeks. My debit card was compromised two weeks ago. As the protocol required, we reported the compromised card and requested a replacement card. On March 21, 2021, we spoke to a gentleman who took our compromised debit card claim. He then told us we could expect the replacement card sometime at the beginning of March 29th. That seemed a reasonable amount of time as that's five or six business days. Remember most people's debit card is pre-set for various automatic monthly deductions for bills, payments, etc. My card is no exception. Monday the 29th came and went, and no card. Tuesday the 30th came and went, and no card. So my husband and I called, and this time we got a lady. She told us it wouldn't take more than a day or two as it had already been 7-8 business days. Wednesday came and went, and no card. Thursday came and went, and since the mail already came, I found out there was still no card. I called customer service for the third time and spoke to two different customer service reps. One stated she was a manager and her name was Taylor. After she read my file, she told me it would be MY fault as I told the customer service rep I spoke to before your 'manager' Taylor just to cancel the card and overnight and send another one to me. Your manager, 'Taylor' implied if I hadn't done that, I could be looking at my replacement card today. Alas, since I canceled, it would be another week (or more) as the 'printing' of the card takes 2-5 days. Then the Fed Ex would be 2-4 days. So this is what I found out about Amegy Bank's treatment of twenty-year customers: 1) EVERY OTHER BANK IN THE UNITED STATES HAS A SHORTER TIME FRAME THEN AMEGY BANK FOR COMPROMISED OR LOST DEBIT CARDS. 2) AMEGY BANK DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR 20-YEAR FAITHFUL CUSTOMERS 3) YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS LIE. 4) YOUR MANAGER, 'TAYLOR' IS INEPT AT BEST. 5) NO RESOLUTION, APOLOGY, OR REPLACEMENT CARD IS BEING ISSUED IN AN ACCEPTABLE TIME FRAME. 6) MY HUSBAND AND I WILL BE IN ON MONDAY TO WITHDRAW ALL OF OUR MONEY TO GO TO WELLS FARGO. 7) YOUR BANK IS A PITIFUL EXCUSE FOR A CUSTOMER SERVICE DRIVEN BANK AND I WILL ENSURE THAT EVERYONE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND ANY OTHER WEBSITE I CAN FIND IS AWARE OF HOW YOU TREATED A CUSTOMER OF TWENTY-PLUS YEARS. read more

Amegy bank has really gone downhill with customer service. I have been banking with them since they opened and I'm truly dissatisfied. They are not secure and they now ask you over the speaker how much money are you withdrawing without being private. Someone also got a hold of my checking account information and tried cashing it. Amegy Bank has had some definite growing pains. They decided a couple of years ago that they were a big international financial center (they're not) and immediately dropped the ball on customer service. Used to have around 10 employees per bank and cut that to about 4. You will notice that the majority of the good reviews for Amegy bank are several years old. I had an account with them for nearly 20 years but just had to drop them this year and go to Wells Fargo. I hate the big banks with a passion but Amegy had just become so customer unfriendly that the mega banks now have better service. Plus, of course, Amegy Bank only has a tiny fraction of the financial resources of the big guys. Sad to see one more iconic business just sink into mediocrity. This bank has no responsibility for their accounts or account holders to the general public's safety when it comes to trying to prevent fraudulent activity. They don't have a process in place for (KYC) which is Know Your Customer! I presented the bank with a check that was drawn on their bank, in which I did not feel good about and felt it might be a fraudulent check and a scam that my college age daughter was about to cash. Instead of this bank trying to help us determine if the check was fraudulent their response was they could not help or would release information on any check drawn on their bank to anyone requesting information or trying to determine fraud activity. They would not say if it was a good or bad check??? I was truly stupefied, I have never received such an un-responsible response from any financial institution and instead of the bank having a process in place to prevent fraud they are actually contributing to scammers and helping them commit fraud by not releasing critical information to the public. I'm very lucky in that I have been educated on these kinds of divisive schemes but there are many people who are not. Once a fraudulent check is cashed, a victim will not find out until weeks later after the scammer has gone underground and the victim is left behind responsible for what might be thousands of dollars to pay back to their own bank. SHAME ON YOU AMEGY! YOU SHOULD HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND YOU ARE FAILING AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE VICTIMIZATION OF PEOPLE! ......... I was originally with Southwest Bank of Texas and then stayed when it became Amegy. The last few years have been nothing short of horrible. A system that does not seem to know how to handle older accounts ends up costing customers endless hours on the phone with people that truly have no idea what they are doing or how to fix problems with which they are presented. As excellent as the early years were with this bank the current services is miserable and inept. They can't find a fix with a map and a flashlight but will never admit it, they just keep passing you from one department to the next. I actually had a bank worker tell me that unless I sat at her desk while she tried to solve the problem (which took two days to fix) that she would not work on my issue. I had to be physically sitting there for her to help me. Insanity. None of the older employees are still there and the new employees have a lost, confused, and hopeless look on their faces. Run, save yourself, use another bank or simply hide your money in your mattress. read more

I got my billfold stolen by a pick pocket in New Orleans and among Chase, BofA, American Express etc. Amegy was the absolute hands down Worst service even though my wife and I both have our business accounts with them for the moment. Unlike the other banks who froze my accounts and expedited new cards, Amegy required that I go into my local branch to replace my ATM card where they told me that they could give me a temporary replacement card until my new permanent card arrived. This sounded good until they found out that I had a business account for which they Cannot give me a temporary account. They told me it would be 10-14 days to replace the card which is totally ridiculous. So they send me a letter with the new pin but still no card. So to get money of my Business Account I have to go to the bank and write a check. Circa 1950 stuff. Needless to say my wife and I are moving our $3 plus millions to another bank who believes in Customer Service. Never do business with this bank unless you like poor service. read more
