On my lunch break today I went to God's Pantry's program "Food for Thought" that is done on the…read moresecond Thursday of each month. They give you a free box lunch, a presentation of their programs, and a brief tour of the warehouse. I had been to God's Pantry before to volunteer, but this presentation really opened my eyes to everything that they are able to accomplish and how they work to supply faith based and other partner agencies in 50 counties. They feed 200,000 people a year. For every $1 you donate, they are able to distribute 8 meals. With only 50 full time employees, I am very impressed with how efficient this organization is. It was also very interesting to find out where all of the food comes from, for example our local Kroger and Walmart donates bread, meat, and other items that can be frozen on their sell by date. God's Pantry is also committed to giving out healthy foods-their goal is 1/3 fresh produce. There is only one location, which is in Covington, close to the Parish Kitchen, etc. I feel safe dropping off my donations, and I always get a receipt for my taxes. Note that the donation drop-off is behind the building in a parking lot. You have to ring the intercom for service.

We have dropped donation items off at this location several times in the past few years and…read moreappreciate how easy it is, as well as the mission of this business. There are several locations, and this one is located in the Hamburg area near Tractor Supply as a landmark. The drop off is on the right hand side of the building and can pull up and employees will collect the donated goods. They have signage directing where to enter the single drop off lane. There are also posted signs listing what can and cannot be donated. Staff are polite and helpful. I have not been inside the building or made a purchase to this point, so I cannot comment on that aspect of this business. I do know that the mission statement has been to sell donated items and then to utilize those funds to assist victims of abuse, which has our support 100%. (Side note: I also choose to donate here rather than at another specific well known charitable drop-off site which has high prices and high administrative costs, resulting in less funds going to the people it claims to serve.)
