I didn't catch the cat's name when I was there, but Vintage Shop Kitty is super friendly and seemed to be receptive to pets. Besides cats, this place also has some really cool clothes -- all of them old, and all of them carefully curated and thoughtfully chosen. I can tell when a vintage clothing store has done its due diligence when I flip through the racks and I want to buy more than a few things. I was THIS close to buying a Western pearl snap shirt, but really: how many pearl snap shirts does a girl need? Regretfully, I put the shirt back on the rack. Hopefully, some other savvy person snapped it up. The Odd Shop has a lot of clothing, but it has just as much vintage toys, records, ephemera and trinkets for sale. Walking into the store is like walking into your (or probably my) childhood, because there are so many things from the 1980s and 90s for sale. So many Smurfs dolls! Mickey Mouse roller skates! It's a small space to share with shoppers and the worker so no issue to be taken care of if you have questions on an item. I found it a bit crowded and overwhelming so a quick glance through was enough. (I would not recommend bringing small kids to this shop) Easy to find street parking. Like other kids of his generation, he has a fascination with the 1990s. From what I remember, the fashion in the 90s was a little bananas and I am happy to put it behind me, but you know kids. Anyway, if you're into clothing from decades past, 812 Vintage is a great place to find quality items. This store has a lot of male energy to it -- it's mostly clothing that's related to sports, music, colleges and pop culture. Lots of graphic tees, windbreakers with university logos, some streetwear, rows of denim. You will not find dresses or feminine things. I found a few things that I would have loved to take home if they weren't so big on me. That's the thing with 812 Vintage: it's mostly for adults, or kids who are as big as adults. I didn't see little-kid clothes here. The prices are about what you'd expect for a vintage store like this, although I did see some stuff on sale. I had to tell my kid a couple of times that no, we would not be spending $115 on a t-shirt. But you're paying for quality here, because the clothing has been curated and well-taken-care-of, so you're not pawing through racks of old clothes that are missing buttons, visually stained, olfactorily displeasing or should have been tossed. For those unfamiliar with their mission, The Mustard Seed is a relatively new (founded in 2016) organization that is primarily dedicated to aiding survivors of childhood abuse. They maintain a wider variety of inventory than most other thrift stores in the area, are exceptionally fair with their pricing and have a delightful sense of atmosphere to boot. In short, it's the kind of organization that deepens your appreciation of Indiana as a whole. The Floyds Knobs store is more spacious than Sellersburg's and has recently undergone some further expansion/renovation. I get the sense that this location has the edge when it comes to clothing, housewares and artwork, while the Sellersburg store is perhaps a bit more robust when it comes to media and toys. At any rate, so long as you follow their posted advice and do not (under any circumstances!!) attempt to donate any fire-breathing dragons, a visit to either Mustard Seed is bound to boost your mood. (The free coffee definitely doesn't hurt.)

This was not an isolated incident--after being treated rudely on a recent prior visit, this latest experience confirms a clear pattern of poor customer service. I was genuinely shocked to be treated with such a total lack of basic respect during a visit a full hour before the store was scheduled to close. The employees were extremely rude, barking orders in a harsh tone regarding the coffee bar, fitting room, and bathroom. When I tried to step outside for just a second, an employee snapped that if I left, I would not be allowed back in--with a full hour remaining before closing. Staff hovered over me constantly, creating an aggressive atmosphere that made it clear paying customers were viewed as an unwanted inconvenience. To treat customers with this level of open hostility is entirely uncalled for and unacceptable. Management needs to address the severe, systemic lack of professionalism at the Floyd's Knobs location. I left stunned by the experience, and I will definitely not be back."

I just enjoy walking through the store and looking at the things I saw when I was growing up in the 80's. They have cheap prices for new mattresses. It's swamped on the weekends but I typically go early and the checkout is swift moving. Cashiers are very nice, with the exception of one much older lady. They have plenty of parking and they even have a band that occasionally sets up outside the building. They take credit and debit but they also take cash.
