My daughter and son in law flew from Abq to LGA, but did not make to LGA because of weather The pilot landed at Philadelphia. This ,made them miss their connection to Aeroflot. American Airlines did nothing to help them try and get their connecting flight . They were on their honeymoon that was planned over a year in advance . They most likely will miss their cruise. They stand to be out a lot of money because AA staff did nothing to help them get to their connection. I will no longer fly w AA. I arrived at the airport for a 6:36am flight to New York with a connecting flight in Dallas. There was something mechanically wrong with the plane so we were asked to exit the plane. We changed or tickets to 12 pm flight for my traveling partners and 2 pm for me due to the 12 pm flight being booked. I requested over the phone to be placed on standby for the flight. I arrived at the gate a little before boarding and requested to be added to the list for standby if I wasn't already on there. I was denied because the employee said that I would have to stay with my bag and that my bag was already on the 2:22pm flight. I informed her that it was okay if I had to wait for my bag and she insisted that I had to stay with my bag. I feel like she poorly explained her decision and quite frankly the decision did not make sense to me. I would rather which most people would to wait for your bag at your destination rather then at their take off location that they have been waiting at since 6 am. I am disgusted by how they woman spoke to me and gave me the look like I was the "angry black woman has arrived." read more

This airline company sucks. I asked and paid for an earlier flight. They call me ad midnight, when my flight was to be at 6am with a 2 hour drive to the airport, and tell me it is cancelled. They then told me my flight would be at 813 pm. I was half asleep and didn't realize pm. Woke up at 5 am and arrived at the airport. Returned my rental car and realized my flight wasn't on the board. I called American and they could do nothing for me. Now I will wait 13 hours in the airport. Never again will I fly this airline. read more

I went to check in at the lady at the counter was absolutely horrific and so was her counterpart. Just a horrid experience. Her customer service skills were zero. Amazing to see the reviews here; I guess I'm the lucky one in the bunch. I choose American by choice and have not been disappointed even when events pushed the limits of what they could and how they could do it (weather, mechanical, birdstrike). I've asked for what I needed and received it always within reason and always with respect. Tip for delays -- send a quick private Twitter message and the social media crew will rebook you as you require within minutes. I've done it several times and it's never failed and did not have to wait on hold or in a line at the counter. I even did this twice in-flight when I knew I might miss my connection. In the last 6 weeks I flew more than 2x with American Airlines. I have emotional Support Animal 13lbs I paid $125, I have 1 carry on 1 small body bag. There were never a problem none of them said pay $30 for the carry on luggage. Now Nicole; the rude front desk that is raising her voice to me and I beg 4x please lower your voice and she said because you're not hearing me! , I feel like she's trying to announce to everyone that this lady here with paying ESA ($125) is idiot look everyone I'm raising my voice, stressing this 54 yr old lady with ESA even she's begging me 4x to lower my voice,no don't care I'm also embarrassing myself as the front desk. Nicole hold me for at least 25 min and everyone is waiting in the line, I was so embarrassed, if I could melt I already did, even I already handed to her my card to pay for the check in luggage in the first 5min I arrived in the counter, she still kept going on and on she can't move on. American airlines should give her more training when the customer is trying to pay and beg lower your voice please, she needs to move on and serve the next customer instead of holding me up for 25 minutes, it is not right, I'm just saying. When the customer begged lower your voice then lower your voice. Just like when you ask the passengers to lower your voice or else we will throw you off the plane. Worst airline company ever. Baggage Claim office is never open anymore, have to go out of the way to call customer service just to have someone sent to open the door. The cargo office looks like a garbage dump with outdated papers and junk scattered all across. The cargo also claims they can no longer bring packages from baggage to cargo for safety purposes. However, no other airline has such a policy. I'd suggest anyone to stay clear of American Airlines as they are never prepared and little to no help. AA is the worst airline! Beware to all that fly with these rude, unaccommodating jerks! I packed perishable food in my checked luggage, in which they charge $26 a bag by the way, and now I'm stuck overnight at my connecting city of Chicago. They said they would pay for 1/2 of my hotel stay. Okay, but the hotel is going to charge me $400. So $200 out of pocket because of "technical difficulties" on my fight home. So I slept on the floor. They announced they would put out cots but never did! I told them I had perishables in my checked bag and they said they would refrigerate it. I don't know if they did but now I'm worried they wont put it on my flight home because they forgot it was in the refrigerator. This is not the only time I have had a bad experience with them. Just save yourself the hassle and fly with anyone else other than AA! read more

I was bumped off my flight back to Albuquerque by 4 employees of American airlines in Indianapolis IN and was told by the agent that even though he checked in my bags i was 10 seconds late to receive a boarding pass for the flight that still had not started to board . In fact I saw the employee"s all line up at the gate in their uniforms and 45 minutes later board the plane that my luggage was on and leave 30 min. late. Meanwhile I had to go to Southwest and purchase a ticket to get home for $585.00 and never got a refund from American airlines.. Shame on you American. read more

I arrived for flying on this airline for the first time ever. I went to check my bag in and stood for 3 minutes while the counter attendant read her book until I finally said "good morning" and she acted as if that was bothering her. Her name badge read "King". As I checked in she then informed me that our two bags would cost us an additional $25 per bag. When I inquired about why there were fees she told me that it is because of the type of ticket we purchased. I then asked if it could be waived and she said absolutely not. I then remarked under my breath; "this is why this airline gets a bad reputation" (referring to the charge for baggage and the attitude of King). She then demanded that I apologize to her or I wouldn't be flying today. I said the comment was not at her. She slammed down our boarding passes and starred me down until we were finished. We arrived at the ABQ airport around 4:40 am, most of the kiosks were not working, so we stood in line. There was no sign, no explanation, nothing that explained what to do or how to expedite things. There was a crowd that was building and while we were standing in line, this agent came out of nowhere and started yelling at us about what paperwork we need to be standing where we were standing. She then bellowed, she is not at fault that most of the kiosks are not working, she just arrived, etc and that she's not really yelling at us, just talking loud so everyone can hear. (I know the difference between being yelled at and someone speaking loudly). We stood in line for about 45 minutes and when we got to a "working" kiosk, it would not accept our tickets or check in our baggage because we were too late. We asked the woman who was bellowing at us earlier and asked her if she could help and she said, that we should have been at the airport hours ago. Being there two hours ahead of time is not enough. During holiday travel time, we need to have been there "hours ago". So, I stood in line to talk to a ticket agent, and about 10 minutes later, I was next in line to the desk. That agent was arguing with the woman in front of me in. When the woman left and I approached the agent, she "asked" me if I'm sure if I'm next. I said that I am sure and that I had been standing in line for 50 minutes. As she was "helping" me, I could tell she wasn't listening to me or paying any attention to what I was saying and all of a sudden, she starts yelling at people behind me. I didn't hear anyone talking to her behind me but she was threatening them, "I have the authority to yank you off any flight!" It was a surreal experience. The rest of experience with American Airlines from DFW to Puerto Vallarta and back did not go smoothly either but we were not berated and yelled at, at every airport. Just at ABQ. read more

The absolute worst experience at this airline I have ever had. I got notification that our flight was delayed over an hour so we waited to leave for the airport. We got there in plenty time and there were huge checkin lines, half of the kiosks were broken, there was no one to take the luggage. Then I suddenly got notified our plane was leaving earlier. We still had time to make it but it was impossible to get up to the counter. As soon as we got up there the lady lectured us about getting to the airport 2 hours early. We had been there for over an hour, we had dropped off a rental car. I'm never flying this airline ever again, they are the worst. read more

Reserved a flight on Priceline months ago in February for a flight this July 4th weekend. The flight was supposed to leave at 9:30am but a couple of months ago it got changed to 6:55am. Bleh but I'm willing to get up early if I have to. I arrived at the US Airways ticketing station about 40-45 mins early (since I've never had a problem with this airport as long as you arrive at least 20 mins early), and they informed me they only went to Phoenix (?!) and since my ticket was through Chicago, I would have to go to the American Airways ticketing station. Okay.... So I go over there and I now have 25 minutes left until my flight because I had to wait 10 minutes for the first ticketing agent to finish helping some monks in front of me before I was told I was at the wrong place. The woman over there now informs me that since I was 5 minutes late, I wouldn't be able to make the flight. I had no baggage to check. Bull! I've easily caught flights at this airport (ABQ) with 15 minutes to spare. Not that I make a habit of it. Not ONCE have I EVER had a problem if I was a few minutes late to the "30 min before boarding" rule. She refused to give me my ticket. Despite the fact I was ON TIME (to the other ticketing station), and could have easily made the flight! Instead, she proceeded to waste the next 20 minutes of time looking for "alternate flights". She made me miss my flight!!! No amount of begging and pleading with her would make her change her mind. I was furious. She eventually told me to stop the bad attitude and "go sit over there". Excuse me lady?! You wouldn't give me my freaking ticket despite both of us knowing full well I arrived to the airport on time and could have made that flight. It's not my fault I didn't know which station I was supposed to go to or that I had to wait 10 minutes for the other woman to help me! So instead I get a roundabout flight to my destination that is about 3 hours later than my original arrival time. WITHIN 20 minutes of me going through security and arriving at the gate (I would have made that first flight, it took less than 15 minutes to go through security and arrive at the gate), I find out that my flight has changed AGAIN. Now instead of leaving at 6:55am, connecting at 11:30am and arriving at 4:40pm, I get to wait in this airport for another 4 hours before I take off. And then I get to wait around in Chicago until 10:30PM before I get to my destination. Really?! All of that for just effing FIVE minutes?! I will be calling and complaining. Terrible customer service. Downright rude and smacking gum while looking like she could care less if I made my flight or not. Well congratulations, you just derailed all of my plans for tonight. And I get to spend all day and all night in airports. Whoo. read more

Worst experience of my life - they canceled the flight the day I was to fly. Nobody would tell me why, I was on my own. Allianz (worst trip insurance ever) will only cover if they know the reason. There was no reason, weather was fine there and in Chicago. American never called me back and if you call you'll get a canned, all representatives are busy due to severe weather! Try it sometime. The people who work there at this airport are not helpful. I wouldn't use this airport unless you have a back up plan. They'll cancel the flight on you with no warning! Also the last time I flew to Chicago, they asked people if anyone would be willing to take a voucher and get off because the weight was too heavy! That's how tiny the planes are. read more

Our son and his family (wife & 2 kids) stranded in Dallas due to cancellation after cancellation due to weather ( as were about a 1000 others) , no customer service. When asked about booking on another airline they were told they would be booked on Delta for an early Sunday AM flight. Whey they called the American call center to verify the flight they were told "no they were not booked as Delta needed to take care of their customers". Wow what a novel idea, and cannot believe that an American Airline employee would say that considering the situation. They are not experienced travelers so packed very important essentials in their luggage (prescription medications & contact lenses), luggage lost, yesterday they were told luggage is in Albuquerque and arrangements made to have luggage delivered to their home in Fort Wayne today. Now tell me how did his luggage get to Albuquerque when all flights were cancelled on Saturday. When they were told they could not get out of Dallas until Monday or Tuesday the opted to return to Fort Wayne on Saturday since this was a short trip due to a graduation. Return flight at 6:40 PM delayed all the way till 11:40, gets better from 640 the flight was delayed every hour each time being rescheduled until 11:40 PM, when flight begins boarding and then cancelled. My son and his family are struggling couple, f(lying home was a gift, sine it had been 4 years since he was home) and did not have extra money for this fiasco and were provided no direction from American Airline agents. Thank the Lord a couple from Fort Wayne saw their plight and provided them with some guidance, we had begun calling surrounding hotels no luck all booked. The couple provided them with information on a Marriott courtyard in Plano, a $75.00 dollar taxi trip they finally had a room. Had in not been for the in-laws and his family ( $500.00 dollars later ) and this wonderful couple from Fort Wayne, they would have had to have stayed in the airport until 6:50 this AM when they were booked out of DFW to Indianapolis not Fort Wayne. We paid for a round trip flight with seating selected yet when they had to reschedule the first cancellation they had to pay for advanced seating. So weather delays are not voucher covered but rebooking for a cancelled flight due to weather requires paying extra. They are safe in Indiana now! I would recommend that American Airlines be avoided but if you have no other option certainly avoid layovers in DFW . This was a total nightmare. Age of grandchildren 2 and 5. My son said if he had not lived this he would not believe it. Also, take out the darn insurance we didn't so we will see if we get a refund for the second half of the trip that did not occur. read more

I have stopped using American Airlines a couple time but gave them another chance. I showed up to the airport with a 1 class ticket, tsa approved, and checked in with dropping bag off 41 minutes till take off. I was apparently 4 minutes late. I couldn't leave my bag. That is upsetting enough but guess what the options are. Nothing. The 3 ladies behind the desk had not options. The worst service I have ever had in a airport. I have traveled for a job for 12 years and never missed a flight. I will never fly American Airlines again no matter what I have to do not to do that. read more

American Airlines needs to train their customer service on their OWN polices. We had a friend that is 65 and a Navy Veteran. We were having a small reunion and he had not flown in 40 years. Our friend has no credit cards or debit cards so were arranged his ticket. We called AA customer service and asked if he could pay cash for luggage check in. Customer Services told us "we accept cash for all domestic flights " at the counter. He and his wife tried to check in and were told at the Nashville airport WE DO NOT ACCEPT CASH for luggage and they offered NO assistance and NO solution even through he had money to pay. Airport nightmare! The "short" version is that we couldn't get on our American Airlines flight this morning. All the American Airlines kiosks at the Albuquerque Airport were down when we got here at about 6:00am for our 7:15am flight and we couldn't check in without getting in line. We had to wait over 20 minutes because the line was very slow due to the kiosks being down...and when it was finally our turn to check-in, the customer service women had issues inputting our information. When she finally figured it out, she goes to check us in and she says that we are now beyond American's 45 minute rule (it had to literally be 44 minutes) and so we can't check in!!!!!!! She was not empowered nor was the supervisor empowered (supposedly!) to overide the computer so she called customer service and explained that it was American Airlines fault because all 9 kiosks had gone down and so the lines got VERY long with only 3 people working. Customer Service basically said "tough shit!" Rules are rules! We are now booked standby on a flight to Chicago that leaves at 1:30. That flight should not be a problem because it has open seats but the connecting flight to Albany is full!!! Their ridiculous rule won't allow them to just rebook us on a flight tomorrow that has room. We have to officially go on standby for a fully booked flight at 6:25pm today and then, when we can't get on that flight, they will rebook us stand-by on the next flight to Albany a 5am tomorrow morning which they already know is full! We will have to go to the airport by 3:45am to check-in for our stand-by seats on that 5am flight that they already know we won't get on because the 5am flight is overbooked!!!! BUT then they can rebook us on stand-by on the next flight that could already be full and they just continue doing that until we get rebooked on the flight that has seats!!!!! They can't just book us on the open flight now without charging us about $300 each!! Rules, they say! Stupid, horrific customer service I say! No wonder American Airlines has serious financial issues. AND their corporate office no longer has a public phone number! AND the reservation line will only transfer you to the corporate office them if you are a Platinum or Gold frequent flyer OR you are paying the highest available fare for your flight OR you are disabled!!!!! Those are the RULES!! So we are here because their kiosks all crashed at once and they don't care because the rules are the rules!!! Oh yeah, and because we are what they refer to as "Group Nine" meaning that we payed the lowest available fare that THEY offered. Basically, you are treated like you are in steerage or have the plague! They seriously keep saying things like "Well, you ARE Group 9" as if you are a third class citizen and because of that, they can't do anything to help! American Airlines is the WORST airline. Avoid at all cost. I fly once every three months, more times then not flights are delayed of canceled. Last week my husband flew first class and they "forgot" to load the meals on the plane. Whatttt!!!!! So we wrote a letter and the computer response was the same both times, " sorry you did not like your meal," are you kidding. He did not get a meal. Another horrible incident, my family was flying to Caribbean the american plane was delayed so they missed connecting american flight. american said they can't get to there destination until 4 days later, and no they did not pay to put them on another airline. They penny pinch as much as possible but when they make a mistake (which happens more often then not) they don't reimburse. I hope this company goes under. read more

Flight delayed into ABQ due to no flight crew. Departure delayed in ABQ at least 1 hour resulting in inability to make connection in DFW to PIT. Was told by person at AA check in and three other AA representatives on the phone no flights available on AA or any other airline until Monday 7/8/19. All informed I had Platinum Pro plus status. As my wife is a Gynecologic Oncologist with 3 surgeries scheduled for tomorrow 7:30 AM 7/8/19, We booked a flight to Pittsburgh through the Delta desk agent that arrives tonight, after all of the AA agents stated no other flights were available on any other airlines and we had no other options than to arrive in Pittsburgh a day late. Our flight from PIT to ABQ was also delayed resulting in an unplanned overnight stay in Chicago and a 18 hour delay into ABQ. After cancelling our AA flight today I was told that I would have to make a special request for a refund, and this agent was short and rude with me (other agents were pleasant). Time spent with the AA counter agent and phone agents was 2 hours. This experience will obviously direct my future travel plans, if any, with AA. read more

You can label this: A series of unfortunate events.. Flight 1 from ABQ, engine issues. First flight of the day, the mechanics should have caught it before we boarded. Waited 1.5 hours.. missed our connection in Dallas... had to rebook a later (3 hours later) flight. Flight 2, circled New Orleans for 1.5 hours, ran out of fuel and diverted to Jackson MS where we waited on the tarmac for 4 hours waiting for a fuel truck. Arrived 10 hours late to our destination. Flight 3 (homeward bound), last minute flight cancellation, scrambled to find a slot on the very last flight to Dallas (thanks Gregory). But.. there were no flights to ABQ.. they cancelled that flight too. So they gave us a discount voucher for a hotel.. but all of those hotels were booked up.. so we paid a taxi $35 (both way) and paid for our own hotel ($134). Flight 4 needed a GPS update??? What is up with their mechanics?? I will avoid AA in the future. I'm out of space, safe travels `:)~ read more

Let me explain something AA has gotten a lot of bad press lately! However I met an angel on 10/17/2015. I had to get my 14 year old an emergency flight to Newark from ABQ. We and to use our travel vouchers because this was so unexpected. A women named Jackie took 3 hours, 3 flipping hours of her time. Didn't get on a flight she needed just to help us. Jackie has no clue at this point what the emergency is in anyway. She calls 3 diff departments keeps a smile on her face. Never gets frustrated gives it her all. Deals with all the high emotions of my family in this crisis. She stuck by us like I have never seen anyone in customer service do before ever. Didn't pass the mess of to someone else she took ownership. She was just amazing. Got even the unaccompanied minor end of things taken care of. I paid out of pocket 1.69 cents. Only after all her hard work and effort did she find out that what she did for our family. My 14 year old daughter now gets to go say goodbye to Aunt that is dying of stage 4 cancer. That's what this was for. This beautiful women didn't even know this when she fought and worked so hard to make this happen. My family will fly American from now on and only American. Thank you Jackie for a goodbye miracle that will be remembered ion our hearts forever! read more
