We recently purchased a house in Galena that had a leaky basement and per the recommendation of our…read morereal-estate agent she recommended J&J do the repair in the basement to correct the issue (non-functional drain tile). Sid was our contact and directly supervised the work. He gave an accurate ballpark quote and was very thorough in explaining the issues and kept us up to date on the progress of work via text messages, periodic calls, and photos. Unfortunately, the job opened up some major surprises with the drain tile around the foundation as well as rotted floor structure around the chimney chase that was dumping water into the basement due to water infiltration. Sid's crew did an excellent job repairing the rotted structure in the basement that had rotted away. While this was a very expensive repair, however I highly recommend Sid and his guys. They do quality work and get it done quick. They also had good recommendations for other contractors that we need to complete the exterior work related to the structural issues (see pic below). Sid will also work with you (within reason) if you have minor changes to the work being done. We had a separate plumber (per Sid's recommendation) add rough-in plumbing for a future bathroom after J&J broke up sections of the concrete floor to replace the weeping tile. It made sense and Sid worked with us on that. Five stars.

In September we contacted Brown's Roofing to give us an estimate on repairing some broken rafters…read morein our main roof. We were in the process of selling our house and the home inspector had noted that there were some cracked or broken rafters that needed repaired. Visual inspection from the attic access only showed one obvious damaged board, one of the hip rafters. Dan told us that the entire roof sheathing needed to be torn off to repair the damaged rafters. He quoted us over $8000 for that and $30 a foot to repair broken rafters. Being that the only rafter that I was completely aware of was a hip rafter, I reluctantly signed off on the outrageous rafter repair price due to the labor involved in sistering or replacing a hip rafter. During this process Dan was one of the nicest people that I had ever met. He stated that they would only replace\repair what was necessary to pass inspection. Mid October his motley crew arrived and began removing the shingles and sheathing. The "foreman" never once came over and talked to me, I had to talk to him and ask him how things were going. I asked him to have them pull back insulation from the soffits while they had the roof off, which he promptly screamed up to his workers, to which one replied "nope we're not gonna do that." I observed them smoking above an open roof and tossing energy drink cans in the yard, not one iota of professionalism. After seeing an alarming amount of 2X6s being carried up on the roof, I asked the "foreman" how many feet they had used so far. He screamed back and forth with one of his workers, neither seemed to have an accurate answer, but finally agreed on something over 100 feet. I told him that I was going to need to talk to Dan due to what he was charging me per foot. I called Dan and left a message for him to call me. I had just stepped outside and my wife answered the phone. She asked if I could call him back to which he stated that it was after hours so it was now or not tonight. My wife brought the phone to me and to my surprise a man that had come across as salt of the earth was suddenly completely belligerent. He was yelling at me and telling me that I signed off on the contract. Apparently he had spoken with his "foreman" and they had come up with something like 170 feet so far. I advised him that I had signed off on that price due to the labor involved in repairing a hip rafter. Most of the rafters that they were "repairing" were common rafters, which they were sistering full length on both sides. He was charging me $360 for a $10 2x6 and the 10 minutes of labor to "repair" the damaged rafters. They finished the job the next day adding another 40 plus feet. The job that was quoted at just over $8,000 was now almost $15,000. Due to the fact that we were under contract trying to sell our house, we paid the bill to avoid him putting a contractor's lien on the property and making it impossible for us to sell.

Extremely Disappointed - Unprofessional Workmanship and Poor Customer Experience…read more I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Signature has been so frustrating that I feel compelled to share it. What should have been a straightforward countertop installation turned into a 7-week ordeal full of errors, delays, and subpar workmanship. From the very beginning, the quality of the installation was unacceptable. The seam on the island was sloppy and drew immediate attention, outlets didn't fit properly due to poor measurements, the sink alignment was off, and the caulking was carelessly applied. A Side splash was installed on a wall I never approved, and the company did come back to remove it, leaving me to pay my contractor to patch and fix the wall. Despite multiple visits to "fix" the issues, the repairs were never up to standard. The same seam was worked on several times and left looking dull and worn on either side. Instead of using new material, they repeatedly tried to salvage the damaged piece, even suggesting shaving off sections of the quartz -- hardly a professional solution. Communication was often kept professional with the operations manager, Tim, but came across as cold and short during the final visit, which only added to the frustration. After several follow-ups and ongoing dissatisfaction, they finally agreed to remake the island with a new slab. By that point, I had already lost nearly two months of use in my newly renovated kitchen. I expected a professional job and instead got a prolonged, stressful mess. The work was excellent and poured and leveled in one day with follow up work done the next day after it had dried some. A couple of follow up on connection to a brick sidewalk and a small pick hole that popped up unexpectedly. Mark was very responsive in both cases and fixed quickly. Work was excellent, looks great, really like the way it was cut the next day. Overall very pleased with work, the work team's interactions and follow up afterwards.

The old pathway had a steep incline, making it difficult to navigate in winter. The new sidewalk includes a series of steps so that the incline is barely noticeable. Mark's years of experience, professional knowledge & deep concern for customer satisfaction is uncommon and most appreciated.
