I came across ADE because I was looking for a class for women and stumbled upon Girls Gun Club! I called and left a message. I later spoke with Paula who was friendly and helpful, she told me she was gathering enough people for a small beginners class for women, I asked if I could bring some friends and she said yes. We signed up and she provided all the information via email. I nor my friends had ever shot guns before so we were a little nervous. We got to the range and met Sayaka, who was badass! She assisted us to get geared up and shared about her expertise. There was about 6 people in our class, so it made it very intimate and they were able to assist us individually if needed! Paula and Sayaka went over various topics of safety. Already it made me feel at ease. Paula is so knowledgeable and quite hilarious she had be cracking up the entire class. Paula and Sayaka made a great team and they explained everything thoroughly. Such cool ladies! I was so inspired by them! We went over the movement of pulling the gun out from the holster over and over and over. But we didn't use the gun just learned the movements so we can get comfortable. Then we moved on to actually holding the gun. It was really helpful, because once we began shooting the adrenaline spiked! I got a lil scared and so did my friend but Paula and Sayaka were extremely patient and helpful. They showed us how to shot, where to shot, and how to reload. They gave me so much confidence that I could be badass like them! I will definitely be back and taking the next course. The three hours flew by! It was a lot of fun! We didn't know we were gonna get to shot in the shoothouse so that was a surprise and such a great time! I mean, where do I begin? I showed up to my training and found out I ended up showing up on a day I would get a private lesson instead. I was a bit nervous to start the training but Paula and male trainer (I feel horrible forgetting his name) made me feel so comfortable real quick. I came back for some skill building and had an amazing private lesson with Bernard. He is an excellent, thorough teacher. The day was a combination of reinforcing fundamentals, building new skills, and guiding me towards future avenues of practice. At every step he gave me incredibly clear demonstrations and precisely useful ways to improve my stance, grip and presentations. Adding movement to shooting was something I have not been able to practice at the ranges I go to, and I highly recommend ADE if only just to add this truly critical skill. Bernard was amazing at tracking my fundamentals as I learned to move smoothly and safely. At the end of the day, he taught me some of the principles of intermediate distance engagement, and though at first I struggled a bit without the sights, Bernard helped me immensely to physically understand how to hold the pistol in these different circumstances -- again, something I hadn't thought about at the range. As I got a bit better I realized how important that skill can be as well. In such a safe environment, combining disparate physical and mental skills into smooth intentional actions felt liberating. Just finished a three ( 3 ) hour Combat Handgun I w/ Shoothouse Ops Course (Beginner/Refresher level). I was able to work personally with the Operations Manager Paula, who is what we would call in the US Army a true "subject matter expert" (SME). The drive up to the canyon itself was worth the investment with the beautiful sites of the mountains. We spent a lot of time on multiple count draws, where we presented our weapon to the ready and then we concluded with a shoot house walk-through. My buddy and I did the Combat Handgun I W/ Shoothouse OPS for beginners. We are fairly new to shooting and this was a great way to get reps in different kinds of scenarios. We had an amazing experience with the Combat handgun course for beginners last Sunday! Class size was small with seven learners and three instructors. Paula was incredibly knowledgeable and explained everything clearly from firearm handling and proper grip to stance, aiming, and shooting techniques. Natalie and Katie were attentive and provided corrections during hands on practice. Paula also taught us some life saving tactical strategies in a lethal encounter. On 8/15/2023, I attended and participated in the Intro Class to Gun Safety and Training Class. As part of Girls Gun Club on Meetup and American Defense Academy. What a fantastic experience! NOTE: First time gun shooter, user, and handler. I spoke and signed up with Paula and paid my initial deposit for my attendance ahead of time. All communication was excellent. I was sent driving instructions, proper apparel suggestions, and tips for what to expect at the event, days ahead of time. The place was a bit far so I planned ahead. Upon arriving I had plenty of time to look over safety forms with Kate and disclosures and ask lots of questions with Doug, which is what everyone should do. Upon starting, Kate helped me apply proper sun protection, asked about water I brought, and even let me know what to expect. Doug was great on answering my technical questions and we started a few minutes late as they were expecting more people that had signed up prior to the event. After starting gun safety, around 45 minutes in a new participant arrived and missed most of the safety and review by the time he arrived; which was odd considering we started late and the class waited for him. Upon starting, Kate, Doug, and one other gentleman reviewed thorough gun safety again as a review. This was reviewed repeatedly for at least the first hour then brought up every single time we were shooting throughout the 3 hours. This eased my nerves, again, have never fired a gun or handled a gun and was nervous in facing this fear. Kate and Doug reviewed the material so much that my fears dissolved. We took breaks and replenished water and even had a snack break. These instructors were very conscientious of health and safety in the hot sun, I can't say enough things to thank them. As a class, I saw everyone was really effectively paying attention and focused. All instructors were helpful and beyond attentive to actively make sure all safety was observed noted, and taken care of by all participants. We were able to review safety again in the shoot house and practice knowing and observing surroundings while looking for targets. Everything was very thought out and the instructors were helpful to catch my errors and make sure I was being mindful and observant of my surroundings while practicing moving forward and backward shooting in the exercises or just completing safety drills. This was one of best experiences I have ever had in my life with regards to training ( that includes college ). Paula runs that place like well oiled machine. Great Instructors. I took a group class we have 6 total participants. We had 3 instructors I was very impressed with the ratio of instructor to student ratio. This was not my first time taking a firearms class but Paula, Doug, and Bradley were very attentive to everyone you never felt like you weren't getting attention and they were there to provide tons of feedback on mistakes and form and to give a reason why not just a do it this way. I never once felt that my safety was in jeopardy which is a huge plus as you never know the skill level of another individual. Getting to work in a shoot house was a fantastic experience and putting yourself in that scenario and state of mind is very beneficial in helping learn your weaknesses.
